Come cut a sockeye salmon with me. I grew up watching my aunt cut salmon at fish camp with an uluaq and I learned how to cut fish with an uluaq. I cut this salmon to use for a fillet and we try to get all the meat off the bones. Or put it in an instapot and make hot and sour soup. All the bones get soft and can eat. Think canned sardines. There are recipes everywhere on the tube. But give me a few likes and i wiil put out my recepi. I dont want to take up space. Salmon cakes are nice too. I scrape sometimes too

One backbone and/or salmon head. Make sure to scale head and cut out gills. Bury those in the garden if you have on. Fish emulsion fertilizer. Put into instapot,4c of chicken broth or water. I use wood ear mushrooms cause I have Asian store near me. But 1/2lb shitaki will work too. 1 can of drained bamboo shoots. If can find in chili oil use this. Don't drain . 1/4 c shredded carrots. Many grocery stores have this now . 2 Tbs fish sauce, 1 Tbs soy sauce. 1/4c rice vinegar. 6 dry Thai chilies cut in half. More or less depending on your heat preference. Pressure cook 30 minutes slow release of pressure about 10 minutes. Open valve be careful,I use a towel. Open lid and add half a package of firm tofu and four green onions. If you like garlic add a couple fine chopped cloves. Close lid let sit for 15 - 20 minutes. Open and taste, if to spicy or thick add more chicken broth. If needs salt add a pinch. You can always and more when served. Also a little white pepper is nice here. That it. But tweek it each time you cook it for your taste. Maybe less vinegar. More tofu. Have fun cooking, thanks

@@tankemate no but I have a lot of friends who are. And my ex girlfriend is. So went out to a lot of Chinese restaurants. Id come home and try copy food at restaurants.cant go out all the time. My favorite is shrimp with lobster sauce. Mine is still not as good as restaurant but passes,lol. Thanks
Thanks for the tip. I dont want to waste any of the meat do i ususlly throw the whole thing in the oven and then scrape the meat off of the bones while eating. This however, seems like a better method of doing essentially the same thing.

The Serrated Scissors are called, “Pinking Shears”. I like this project! I like how this demo doesn’t have exact measurements or precise instructions. Why? I’m the type that always relies on that. So, this challenges me to just wing it. Jump in and sit down & sew against all odds. Just do it in the midst of life, kids, distractions. This is a good skill building project for new sewers. I have a “zipper fear” (yet, I make quilts, sewing since age 9). This project will help conquer that zipper fear. LOL. I noticed no zipper foot was used. That industrial Zuki was incredible! Loved the speed of it. My mom worked at a sewing factory in the 1950’s as a teen. When one mastered a skill, they were moved onto the next skill. Assembly line sewing in NY. The garment would be passed from sewer to sewer for each stage of the garment. I like your honesty in “no fuss, no muss”sewing. To just wing it. That’s new to me. Worth a try! Oh, and it’s pronounced as, Pell-On (not Pee-Lon). Too funny! Yet, you’re bringing it. Keep going! A mom on the move with kids at toe. Your time is limited. Yet, you’re doing it! I quit making quilts when my youngest came along. I was overwhelmed with their traveling business Dad, chores, domestic duties, etc. I praise you just jumping in no matter what is going on. Yes, kids want your attention when your focus is not on them. Lol! (Know that if you decide to put a pattern together, I would be a buyer for your easy boxed bag). You have large scraps, lol! I enjoyed your presentation, the jump in and sew attitude, a mom on the go. (This too, shall pass. Don’t stop sewing like I did. A tidy & orderly home was the trade off. I missed my sewing) Kids love the hum of a mom’s sewing machine! My son told me that when he was older. Wished I had known!!! All the best to you! Keep it up!!! ❤

Quyana "chuck norris" Nikki. :) Can you share how much or long you dry the fish before smoking? What is the consistency of the fish after drying (before smoking)? I usually brine and then smoke but want to learn to dry then smoke but don't know how long to dry for. I only have an electric food dehydrator to dry my fish in. Quyana. I enjoy your videos so much. <3
I dry them until they have a pellicle on them I don't know what that translates to but it's like that little bit of crust on them on the outside. They're not too soft and they're too hard. I dry them in my garage on poles with a fan. And then I smoke them in my Little Chief maybe 2-3 pans depending on how thin I cut them.

What should you leave as a gift??
As Yupik's we are always thankful and give thanks to the land either by leaving a piece of fish, or food and bury it in the ground. If you don't have a gift you are intentional with your mind as you pick and by doing so you are giving back.
