Interesting video! I never really thought of Blake as an artist, let alone put him in the category of "great artists" but its clear he led an interesting life and had a lot of opinions! To be honest, I'm a little skeptical of people who criticize science and rationality for "taking the mystery and wonder out of life" when scientific research has brought so many new discoveries and mysteries to us.

Absolutely superb, James. How we need a person like Blake now, although if we had somebody we would surely ignore or dismiss him, just as Blake was dismissed.

As a young man reading Blake for the first time I quickly realized I was entering a new world and now I’ve come to the conclusion that I never left it. Thank you for another terrific video.

Is there any discussion that the painting represents Good creating science, and the peril it puts Him in, with respect to the beliefs of man? I see Him turning his back on His own created beauty, and creating science and risking falling into that creation. (I'm not anti-science, as a scientist, myself. I do tend to find the interplay between science and faith everywhere...)

I was introduced to William’s Blake poet and art through Bruce Dickinson’s - The Chemical Wedding album! The whole album (lyrically and musically) is based on Blake’s exceptional art and poetry. I had just revisited ‘The Tate museum’ in London, there is something quite haunting, mystic and so english about Blake’s art and poetry. This is probably my favorite channel on CZcams, my love , passion and knowledge have grown exponentially ever since I discovered this channel! Thank you so much for such a wonderful content.

I love your channel, but I find the man who reads the quotes annoying and unnecessary. Your voice is so soothing and you’re such a great narrator. You don’t need the other guy.

at 13:37 when Newton is shown, my audio - for whatever reason - cut out after you said "the portrait bared little resemblance to the scientist", so for the next 10 seconds, Newton was staring me down in absolute silence while the cam slowly zoomed out lol

In Mrs A hand is a quill. When subjects didn't keep up with their payments to the artists, the artist would take a snipe and paint an invoice in the subjects hand in order to humiliate them into paying. The artists always cease to complete their paintings if the revenue of payment ends. He abandoned completion because the monies owed were not settled.

By his labours, Blake attempted to compromise or otherwise tarnish that with which he had precious little acquaintance, viz. science, by the elevation of that which he did, viz. theology. A typical formula. Which is right can be ascertained. And yet by the objective frame given to divulge it, people such as William Blake aren't liable to derive much consolation. Excellent presentation as ever -- bravo!

Fascinating. Thank you. Another historical character unappreciated in his own time, his genius overlooked or ridiculed because he marched to the beat of a different drum. Ironic, though, that Blake railed against the oppression of reason and scientific thought to the point that his obsession with rebelling against them nearly ruled his life.
