OMG, I WAS CRYING OF EXTREME JOY AT TIMESTAMP 6:32!!! This has gotta be one of the most epic of Beethoven's transitions from pure melancholy and despair to something of pure joy and triumph!!! BRAVO BEETHOVEN!!!!!!! BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!!

I hadn't heard this concerto before. It's just what a person of Baltic heritage needs. Very nicely played and recorded. Thank you.

J’aime tout le Concerto 5 de Beethoven, avec une préférence pour l’adagio de la 2e partie ( ou 2ème mouvement). Durant longtemps, la Pastorale ( la 6 ème symphonie) avait ma préférence. J’apprécie bien la 9ème, mais …elle ne me fait pas rêver.

J’ai redécouvert le Beethoven que j’aime dans ce 2ème et ce troisième mouvement du Concerto 5 dit de L’Empereur.❤.❤

I think this should be the correct tempo, maybe a little less rapid. Remember is: un poco mosso ( a little moved). Un the other versions here in CZcams the pianists play it some slower and other very slow.

what kind of an audience was this? a really great performance of Beethoven's emperor concerto and they give her tepid applause! I don't know much about her,but she did a hell of a job.

In 1905 Janáček was to witness a tragic event when a young worker, František Pavlík, was killed by policemen during a demonstration calling for a Czech university. This led Janáček to compose the piano composition 1. X. 1905 "From the Street". Today the Besední dům is the home of the Brno Philharmonic.

This is the most famous work of Bruch with his first violin concerto. He gives a romantic color to the jewish hymn Kol Nidre. Schoenberg will give a modern onr e in his op. 39. The two visions are possible. This one is by far the most famous. It takes into account the romantic voice of the cello solo for this prayer. The piece has always ben very successful. *It is often associated with "schelomo" by Bloch, an underrated composer.

Tchaikovski was not cellist but these variations are extremely difficult. He probably got advice from a highly talented professional. I must confess that I do not know for whom he wrote these variations. Probbaly the same person that gave him advice. The technical challenge does not prevent him to sing in his own diverse style. A very beautiful and contrasted score - not forgetting the orchestra..

I am sorry but I find the orchestra far too heavy - although I love this concerto. I recommend Geringas' version, with the Riga Philharmonic orchestra conducted by Jonas Aleksa. This is a bit unfair for Barta, the cellist, who has a wonderful "voice", but the orchestra is simply not up to the challenge. Shame.....

Sounds a bit like Alan Hovhaness and Philip Glass mixed together at times. It has the spiritualism of Hovhaness (and his bells and chimes) plus the minimalism of Glass. And actually, I preferred to the orchestral playing before the cello.

re: THE 2nd MOVEMENT - “Adagio un poco mosso” - TEMPO: Play this movement somewhat slower than you are in the video - being in B Major it makes it much easier to play - and more relaxed to contrast with the 1st and 3rd movements. The entire movement is “Adagio un poco mosso” means “very, ‘very’ slow” but moving “forward with confidence.” What’s nice is the movement is precisely the same tempo throughout. Play it like you would normally breath - but with a breeze on your face - calm, consistent, relaxed and refreshing. Also, the volume of the the orchestra is too high - it takes away from the sense of "concerto" of the piano. The first measures with the orchestra should "arise" softly and carry you to the piano. Otherwise, tempo and volume aside, great performers. Finally the acoustics of the room are fantastic - and another reason to pull back on the volume. [wc ]
