Chinese 6-Cycle Hit & Miss Engine Comparison

This small chinese version of the Phillip Duclos 6 cycle engine makes for a perfect trio along with the standard size and a 2x version. This miniature version ran perfectly right out of the box and i am impressed with the quality.

They are just great little engines Doug. I'm lucky enough to have the exact same one. Cheers, Alan.
The sound alone lets you know you got got your money alone in electricity, and moving parts wear and tear. The world get more artificial and it's no wonder so much joy is gone.
I agree I've got one I want to do this
Neat!
as sometime also can be gyroscope self balancing motorcycle
Looks like an Old Curtis V2 version. Might be the early model to the the Curtis A2.. I would not be surprised if it was not an Old Japanese Bicycle engine either..
Lovely engine thumbs 👍
Looks a great wee engine. 🤔 Am i imagining it, or is left spark plugs lead connection loose, (engine seems to be hesitating / stumbling occasionally too imo),
I wonder what the max efficiency is of a hit & miss design. I know they have been in use for decades on donkey engines pumping oil.
nice
oh hey that thing runs like a sewing machine!
I knew Bing made all different types of stamped steel toys (they were one of the first) but I've never heard of a model Stirling engine from them before.

Nice work :)
Seems to run very pretty good indeed👍
This video introduced me to a new (relatively speaking) type of engine which I never knew before. A Wikipedia search has given me the idea why it is called as "Hit and miss". It seems like they can be used as range extenders for plug-in hybrid vehicles, where the engine runs a generator and does not drive the car directly. It seems that such a setup would be simpler to cool and air cooling would be sufficient. I still don't know why this design is not reconsidered for use in the automotive industry.
Runs great ! The Shop Wisdom Of Philip Duclos, from The Home Shop Machinist, 1991, its a good book, lots of interesting engines and machining ideas with plenty o pictures and drawings. You see quite a few engines from his book on display at the various engineering shows like Cabin Fever Expo;
Great job, interesting engine, is it a kit build?
No, this was built from stock materials
You have a cool son good job!
Vary nice!! I have one too. I think you are running in the wrong direction on the dynamo.
You got a good deal. These are well-made.
What a gorgeous engine! Sounds like your valve timing is in need of some tweaking still or possibly needs a different eccentric with more duration
I would really like to have one of these. Do you know where I can find one?
im glad chinese copy everything, cause germans will sell you this engines for 100$ more, and chinese don't care about mass product so better price
A good Stirling engine needs compression. With adiabatic temperature rise in the order of the difference between the high temperature compartment and the low temp one. Only then will the optimal performance be achieved. Look at the Carnot cycle diagram of pressure and temperature.
Good video. I think you need to change your valve timing so the engine runs in the other direction, this means the crosshead pressure is on the standard, not the guide plates. This might make the engine run better & quieter?
Old video, but still applicable. I would go with some way to make the wheel plates removeable. I only use my cutter for trim and small fields for cutting grass. The rest is heavy brush, saplings. Grass cutting is only 2-3 times a year so no issue with bolting up or pinning of some sort. Shocked you are using a cutter with an non-enclosed cab. Hope you are safe out there.
Never seen one before it is really wonderful
We are very interested in your CZcams content and would like to propose a cooperation application to you

I have one as well! A friend found it in a dumpster and gave it to me. Fixed a paddle switch finger and it runs like a champ. I love your accessory. What others do you have? I’d like to make a bronco buster lol.

Beautiful engine. What a nice find
I find them after 48 years!!!
Tolle Maschine
i'm not sure why i clicked this but I did, thanks for engine chat
Where did you get it?
Facebook marketplace. Putting on ebay soon
try an alternator
like connect a alternator using a belt and see if it charges the batteries
Really nice engine Doug. Cheers Rob
Beautiful skeleton engine Doug. Sounds great. Cheers Rob
Wonderful engine Doug, glad you got it sorted. Cheers, Alan.
Good job done !
It's nice and worth working on
Beautiful engine Doug 👍👍👍 Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Alan.
nice engine
A very nice example Doug. I have also been looking for a nice example.
Hi Doug. I think those Saf-Toy engines are great. I'm lucky enough to have 2. The first one is pretty rough but the second one is nice, even came with box and instructions. The the thing that goes on them is the leather seal on the end of the conrod. If the seal is ok you should be able to get the whistle to work. Never seen one with a black boiler before. Cheers, Alan.
The Chinese one is NOT a 6 cycle, but a standard 4 CYCLE hit and miss. This is shown by the ratio on the gear wheels. 2:1= 4 cycle. For 6 cycle it would be 3 to 1 !
what type of fuel & oil do u recommend & should the fuel be mixed with marval mystery oil ?
Coleman fuel with 1 oz mystery oil per qt fuel
Love the design of that engine! It's huge! I believe the original was designed by Harry Wedge. Some years back, "Home Shop Machinist" magazine ran an article entitled, "A Modified Wedge Oscillating Engine", which detailed making one from scratch, with no castings. That's where I heard of it. You've got an outstanding engine there!
