Having previously visited Parnell Square (czcams.com/video/BektDJ8cviI/video.html) and Merrion Square (czcams.com/video/LPh6-vySVDE/video.html), it was time to visit the biggest square in Dublin. St. Stephen's Green is located on the southside of Dublin city centre, with Grafton Street, Dawson Street, Kildare Street, Merrion Row, Leeson Street, Earlsfort Terrace and Harcourt Street all feeding in to it. Prior to the arrival of the Luas in 2004, buses served all four sides of the Green. Now they are limited to the northern and eastern sides.
In terms of bus routes that pass through it, there are many. Leeson Street services connect places such as Dun Laoghaire, Bray, Sandyford, Ballymun and the Phoenix Park. Merrion Row services (which lead to Baggot Street) connect Burlington Road, UCD Belfield, Ongar, Damastown and Blanchardstown. One recent arrival to the St. Stephen's Green is route 40. Running from Charlestown and Finglas, it ceased being a cross city route in 2022 and gained Earlsfort Terrace as a new terminus. A lot of these routes operate at a high frequency.
Most of this video was recorded on a Friday evening, when the extra peak services run. These bring a mixture of buses ranging from the oldest type with the AX Class to the newest type in the form of the EW Class.
St. Stephen's Green is also served by Aircoach route 700 to and from Dublin Airport.
Some regional peak services appear in this video too. These include Go-Ahead Ireland's route 125 to Naas and Bus Eireann routes 103X and 105X to Ashbourne (and beyond). The hydrogen-powered HWD Class bus appears on one of the latter routes. The Ashbourne Connect Enviro 400MMC on the evening service to Ratoath also features in this video.
Finally, due to its location withi the city and the history that goes along with it, St. Stephen's Green is also well served by a variety of open-top tour buses.
