I am 82 years old and have been a lover of classical music all my life. I thank my beloved elder sister and the BBC for what can only be described as one of the BEST BLESSINGS OF MY LIFE. The others are my wonderful family, parents and in laws who might just be clones of eachother I had never heard of this composer let alone this lovely piece until a few days ago. This is a wonderful performance at 82 I am afraid I will have to hurry up to listen to more of this. Thank you Joseph Suk.

Si... le quintette en soi une merveille.. mais quelle merveilleuse idée de davantage déployer cette musique si privée, de la musique à l'orchestre, de chambre... (et par quels merveilleux instrumentistes -- et la direction si sentie en profondeur de Nagano !) -- respect et amour donnés à Bruckner, à qui ils ont toujours manqué, de la part d'amis qui pensaient que trop bien le comprendre -- il a fallu plus de cent ans pour que résonne la musique qu'il avait entendue..

The piano sounds more gentle than the harpsichord. Great job!

Love this and amazing performance! Suk was Dvorak’s best students and his son in law. You can hear so much influence in this piece.

I'm glad that this song cycle got some exposure during the Covid years. This is one of a handful of excellent performances sitting on CZcams from around 2020-21. Does anyone know how many quotations there are in this set of songs? When I first heard them I realised that the last one (Epilog) quoted a jazz standard from the great American songbook. With the help of a friend I've managed to identify it as Cole Porter's "Ev'ry time we say goodbye". However there are a couple of other points in the cycle where I wonder whether Eisler has made other shorter borrowings.

endlich mal 4 Solisten, sondern ein Ganzes! Dass die Erste gut ist, ist immer der Fall. Hier aber auch ein sehr-sehr guter 2. Violon, SUPER Bratschistin, perfekte Cellistin. Schade, dass sie (ausser ein kleines Lächeln am Ende) gar keine Emotionen zeigt. Weder mit Geste, noch durch Mimik. Ich erinnere mich an die zweijährige Yuko, die immer gelacht hat... <3 (Sie war die einzige Person auf dieser Welt, wen Maitre V. wirklich, vom Herzen geliebt hat.)

From the very first notes of this Brahms music conducted by Kent Nagano, I knew that Kent Nagano is one of the the greatest Brahms interpreters of all time. I just wonder how he managed to get the musicians to play the Brahms music with such poetic singing phrasing. This interpretation of the Brahms Serenade proves how all other conductors simply do not have enough talent for Brahms. The pure, crystalline and airy sound, the musical phrasing of each instrument and the balance between the different instruments demonstrate Kent Nagano's ability to mesmerize an orchestra to play a heavenly music that so played can only be heard in heaven. The entire orchestra is a group of individual, first-class musicians who play together in musical purity and technical perfection like no one has heard before Last, but not least the sound engineer on this recording also made a significant contribution to the sound of this recording. Schon bei den ersten Tönen dieser Brahms-Musik unter der Leitung von Kent Nagano wusste ich, dass Kent Nagano einer der größten Brahms-Interpret aller Zeiten ist. Ich frage mich nur, wie er es geschafft hat, die Musiker dazu zu bringen, die Brahms-Musik mit einer solch poetischen Gesangsphrasierung zu spielen. Diese Interpretation der Brahms-Serenade beweist, dass alle anderen Dirigenten musikalisch einfach nicht genug Talent für Brahms haben. Das gesamte Orchester ist eine Gruppe erstklassiger Einzelmusiker, die in musikalischer Reinheit und technischer Perfektion zusammenspielen, wie sie noch niemand zuvor gehört hat Auch der Tonmeister dieser Aufnahme hat maßgeblich zum Klang dieser Aufnahme beigetragen.
