      @DIYWithSammy Před 8 dny

      Thank you! So typically I look for good quality pieces meaning real wood or wood veneer sometimes it’s pressed wood and in that case I paint it all. If it’s natural wood I then look at how damaged it is and go through the process of what I would need to do to repair it in my head to see if it’s doable or worth my time. I really do love restoring furniture so when I find a good one I always try to but sometimes the market doesn’t allow for that.

    I like that you refinished this piece, that's what it needed! The foam pads on your festool really made quick work of those curves. I bought some similar pads for an inexpensive detail sander that hopefully will reduce hand sanding time. Great info about using two types of stain.

    Tough lesson to learn, but as you said, never again. Also, glad you realized that when you are finishing, Tung Oil works best when it is rubbed in thin layers. Dampen a cloth with it, wipe on and then wipe it all back off until the wiping cloth comes off clean. Pouring it on and letting it pool will result in variations in the finish thickness and thus, the look of the finish. Also, by only dampening a rag and wiping it on, it dries quicker when the layer is thinner, allowing you to do 2-3 layers in a single day.

    Magnificent results, those tables have to be smoother than a baby's bottom after all the sanding, rubbing and buffing. I am so sorry this “glitch-in-the-process” happened to you! But, so proud of the way you regrouped, and figured out how to solve the problem! Love your determination & devotion to your craft! As a result, these tables that are so outstanding in themselves, turned out looking like pieces of art! I’m not kidding, at one point when looking at the finished/staged tables, the camera caught the grain in the wood & I gasped/my breath caught! It truly was stunning! The tables are stunning! So, thank you for finishing them! Someone will be so happy to have them in their home! (If I lived closer, if they weren’t spoken for, I’d purchase them in a heartbeat!) And, just so you know, this video with the mistake included, is such an inspiration to those of us who want to learn from you! If I had tried this on my own, I admit I’d probably have left them unfinished forever, if this had happened. You cured me! I am inspired by your never-give-up, never-give-in attitude! And, your hard work & willingness to give so much time to create these beauties astounds me! And, a note to the person concerned about your pup…I’ve known that dog since he was weeks old. I also know all the classes, types & hours of training he’s received! I also know his behavior in just about any known situation! He’s completely reliable & safe! I only know one other malinois who has had (a little) more training & obedience/work ability, and he’s a service dog for a physically disabled senior citizen! The concern is misplaced! And, he never left the yard! He’s in very capable/responsible hands with the mom/owner he has!

    The end result is gorgeous, my only comment was that you used the 123 primer which is water based, you really should use a shellac based sealer for potential tannin bleed and my other comment was why you used a oil based top coat over white water based paint ?The only reason I mention this is for all the newbie’s. The dresser looks beautiful and I’m sure your client is thrilled and they should be!!!! I enjoy all your videos.

    • @DIYWithSammy
      @DIYWithSammy Před měsícem

      Thank so much for the comment. I did decide to use the water base one because although I thought I may have a small amount of bleed through I knew this primer would block some and I needed up not having any if I was more worried about it I would have used the oil based one. But good point

    This is restoration was great! I definitely prefer this over painting, although painted piece do have their place. May I recommend a before and after shot at the end to really get the full effect of all the work you did ❤

      Thank you so much I really do love restoring wood pieces of furniture. And great recommendation I started doing that in my newer videos so from here on out there should be a before and after

    Just founs your channel today. I have built all my own furniture but never thought of trying to restore something. Dont have anywhere to put any new furniture but maybe i could do it to give away and just have something to tinker on. Thanks for the inspiration

    You should maybe have used two handles on the top painted drawer since you changed them and you had enough. Beautiful restoration- transformation. Keep the old handles for another project... they were gorgeous. Thanks so much for sharing
