I appreciate the spatial design, biophilic design, passive elements. The simple material palette is lovely with a use of simple finishes too. I just really wish there wasn't soooooo much concrete. The upfront carbon of the concrete alone is likely negating any good the living roof and biophilic design brings.

Makes me sad that the parents want the children to be calm and not express their emotions through running, playing and talking with joy. Beautiful home.

Am I the only one like likes this 😭 . Don't get me wrong I love full glass walls but in an urban environment such as this, I feel it makes sense to draw attention to light in somewhat sparse, planned and unique spaces that point to the limited views of nature around this building. There seems to be more of an appreciation and consideration for shadows as well, balanced with the ambient light from the top, progressively reaching all the way down to the floor level. Also, even considering the narrow space, it doesn't seem to be that claustrophobic because of the way the space is divided between rooms with split levels/beams instead of full interior walls. It kind of reminds me of those indoor play places where you climb up through the structure. Idk maybe my thinking is too much in the scope of visiting this place rather than living there long term.

Beautiful house but being near a beach and having a pool is useless in victoria. Its warm for 3days a year and freezing most days.

It's very cute and so well done! Though I'm itching to convert the laundry room into a 2nd full bathroom and then convert the powder room into a much smaller laundry room 😊

This video reminds me of my own “low footprint “ of floor weight in my home. I have a small house in Alaska, on my own, and over time thru cutting away the excess and the physical weight of the items ( to include 99 % of furniture), as the goal is to keep the weight off my floors.

Beautiful design, however I can not get past how significantly high the kitchen upper cabinets are. The gentlemen in the first video scene needs an elevator or very tall ladder to get to the shelving in the uppers. Is there something in the design not shown that helps overcome this height issue such as pull-down shelving or built-in step stools? Functionality and aesthetics need to have the appropriate balance to be considered good design.

I like how Australians give so much attention to architecture at all budget levels. This kind of attention to design is only reserved for the rich in most other parts of the world.

A house that nobody lives in

Like the dedication to protect habitats ecosystem , Copper cladding is a great contrast to Concrete .

I’m upgrading a 1968 MCM ranch style in Florida. These houses are a challenge because the basic systems of septic, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc are all so expensive to bring to modern standards then there is the kitchen..sigh..mine has cabinets made of a type of fiber board that stinks after all these years. I can’t wait to replace it with teal cabinets plus I am pushing the dining and kitchen areas out into a glassed in patio so we have much more daylight. I love my new new old home project and am doing it with great care, saving most of the MCM details too which includes a “cracked Mexican tile” floor. I never heard of ribbon windows (are they jalousie windows?) and would have loved a close up of what that is. We must replace all the windows for energy efficiency also while trying to keep the look as modern as possible, ha choosing the windows is the hardest part to keep “to the period” for me.

bespoke house logic doesn’t stack up. this family will leave at some point very much sooner than the house will ‘leave’. in the bigger scheme of things, this will very soon not be a bespoke home for the next and the next and the next users.

Cinder blocks, rough concrete, dark interior even on a sunny day, indigenous plants that look like weeds and crab grass and a " green" roof that will probably have mold or leak within 5 years and this home will probably NEVER be resell able. This is the kind of home most people would never live in. It's ugly, cramped and cheap looking. Someone had to say it!

What a heart for community he has! Very lively collaboration of two homes. Love it! Also, how wonderful for neighbors being there for each other in times of need…for example, physically challenged or the elderly having a need for caring neighbors.

With each video tour, I absolutely love watching with cups of hot tea. My very small and simple home in Alaska has benefitted greatly from ideas here and there. Very relaxing to just tour each wonderful home and listen to each person’s story. 🥰🥰🥰

Congratulations to all involved - this house will age so well and become part of its environment in a way few new builds do, and the eight star rating is deferred savings. I found the space calm and grounded without feeling heavy or ostentatious and I hope you are truly happy there.

lol this is not passive design and the embodied energy in this house would also be very high. The ability to recycle this building at the end-of-life cycle is also extremely limited, possibly some bricks and the rest crushed aggregate. There are no thermal breaks in the concrete construction from inside to outside and i highly doubt the glass to thermal mass ratio and orientation is anywhere optimal. Roof gardens are great but limited if your goal is to harvest some rainwater to use in your pool. I like the concrete aesthetic and brickwork very much and it is a beautiful bespoke home, but a highly sustainable building it is not.

I love the simplicity of the dwelling. Has a great sense of calmness.

Thankfully this is not filmed with quick sweeping waves of amateurish hand held video footage that leaves the viewer feeling sea sick and poorly informed about the architecture. It seems professionally produced and gives the viewer time to explore each focal scene.

love it, basic materials, but interesting result. Is there any membrane within the green roof structure, or you do not get much rain there? Is there any added thermal insulation boards on top of the roof structure used or you relly on the soil of the green roof?

so strange that with an actual modernist home build you didn't use the word mid-century modern. Cheap and simple construction, purpose built furniture, attention to flow, that half wall, the lack of street facing windows and very little obscuring of materials.

The word you are looking for is reclaim. It isn't sludge or waste. It's not like you are collecting trash from the beach front and making something new or even pallet furniture. It's just a common practice among potters that is a millennia old to make bland beige slip cast flatware.

This home is very “ breathable”. Very calming and quiet. I love how the low light gives the eyes a break from too much brightness. Beautiful! and the pup is very sweet too!

There is nothing that comes close to putting a more negative overall impact on the planet than building out of glass, concrete, and more comcrete.

What about insulation? Do you guys have min code insulation requirements where you are? US in my area, we need to meet a MINIMUM of R49 in roofs and R30 in walls (required).

Omg, I love this! I keep searching for a eco-brutalist house, and this simple house checks many marks on my notes! I'll save this for future references. I love the green roof and the build-in furnitures integrated to the structure!

Charming mid-century home reminds me of mid-century homes by Architect Joseph Eichler American real estate developer made the for returning soldiers and housing boom that fallowed they erected rather fast put where a economically priced home but now highly regard and sought after homes. They encouraged “indoor-outdoor” living, with outdoor atriums in the center of the home that brought in the California sunshine.
