Skiing Snowmass Mountain

On saturday June 15th, 2024 I climbed and skied snowmass mountain. The original plan was to hike in early the night of the 14th, bivy at snowmass lake, then climb buckskin pass saturday afternoon and spend saturday night at crater lake beneath the bells. However I got to the trailhead much later than anticipated so I opted for a quick hour nap then did snowmass in one push. Lack of sleep and la...

On a May Powder Day I had two Cameras (Insta 360 and the Gopro Hero 11). Logan, Joey, and I headed out to washington for memorial day weekend to try and ski Rainier. A snowy early season plus a week of strong winds had kept people off the summit and weather dissuaded summit attempts on friday, saturday, and Sunday. High winds and variable skiing conditions (a ranger told us the Fuher Finger was no longer in condition) prompted us to switch from the standard DC route...

      @gusbatcho Před 22 dny

      It’s got the most sustained exposure on the route. Descending off K2 seemed more difficult physically and if you take ridge proper on the final summit push there will be tougher moves.

    Yoooo dope video!! Please answer me these questions as I noticed your Wildcat Tours after watching the second time!! What kind of tour bindings do you have on them? And do you feel they were sufficient for the deep snow or would you have liked to have a wider pow ski for the days that were dumping? I’m plotting on my Japan setup so any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for the video!

    • @gusbatcho
      @gusbatcho Před měsícem

      I loved the wildcats! Although I have the 2021 which offered a 119 underfoot version. I think the new ones only go up to 116. I think for a Japan pow trip the minimum width would be 115. Binding wise I have some old G3 zed 12s which I do not recommend, the heels release with any forward pressure (see the Buffalo busters video or the baldy knoll yurt) but the group has settled on the beefy atk bindings with the stomp pads as the optimal free ride touring setup. If you like a more directional ski Logan had a good time on the black crow Draco freebirds

    • @gusbatcho
      @gusbatcho Před 2 měsíci

      I would say it’s an 1-1.5 hours back to the gondola at a casual pace, and if you miss that then you’ve got an extra 5 miles and 3,000ft descent back to zermatt. However the trail seems reasonably nice so I wouldn’t estimate that taking much more than a couple hours

A realistic perspective on Alpine climbing from the Mental to the physical challenges . . . too bad now a days you have to do a product plug to get the high traffic . . . .
