Travel with Josh & Jess
Registrace 20. 08. 2023
We'll take you along on our travels while looking for a new home outside the U.S. as well as random fun trips!
It's our Anniversary!
Today was a day that will be celebrated for many things for many years to come!
Our names are Josh and Jessica and we have had enough of the Rat Race and chasing the almighty dollar. So what did we do? We moved to Ecuador!
Relocating to Ecuador has become a hot spot not only for retirees but for people of all ages.
Ecuador isn’t just the Galapagos Islands.
It is the most biodiverse country in the world and sits right on the equator. (Ecuador means Equator).
It has four major regions. The Galapagos Islands, the Coastal region, the Andes region, and the Amazon region.
Ecuador is a solid choice for those wanting beautiful scenery, diverse nature (flora and fauna), great architecture, small villages to large cities, a healthier lifestyle, and a lower cost of living.

Breakin' the Law While Driving in Ecuador! Oh no!!

The "Transito" or "Transportation Police" in Ecuador has a very well-earned horrible reputation for being extortionists. But every once in a while, you get a Transito that gets tired of trying to communicate with a couple of dumb Gringos and lets them go without stealing their money. Our names are Josh and Jessica and we have had enough of the Rat Race and chasing the almighty dollar. So what d...

Getting sick here has never once crossed my mind. I generally only get sick at the changing of the seasons back in the U.S. and here.... It doesn't feel like anything has changed! Well, apparently, you can get the common cold here... Duh.... Our names are Josh and Jessica and we have had enough of the Rat Race and chasing the almighty dollar. So what did we do? We talk about what we have been up to and why we haven't posted any videos for a while. Due to increased costs and unaffordability to live in other countries, people are looking to retire and relocate to other countries that are more cost-effective. Not only are retirees relocating, but the younger generations as well. South America has become a hot spot for expats. Ecuador is a solid choice fo...

Im planning to be there in a couple months. Did you fly into Guayakil? If so, how did you get to Olon?
Yes we fly in Guayaquil. Private drivers are the way to go in my opinion. We use a gentleman named Yoyder anytime we hire a driver. He is without the best. His contact info through whatsapp is +593 98 435 3572
Please stay safe. I was in Quito a few years ago to look around the country and maybe decide to retire there. It has become fairly unpredictable. Ecuador was cool, but I am not looking for that kind of uncertainty. Best of luck to you!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Hey Kevin, no doubt quito has gone downhill, most expats are living outside of quito. On the coast here we have the cartel gangs, the violence is gang on gang and very rarely affects expats and the expats that have had problems probably put themselves in a situation they should have never been in. I've been in Ecuador for over 20 years and haven't had and problems. There are a lot of great and safe places in Ecuador.
Wow, I love the place. I can't wait to see what you do with it.
Thank you! We are very excited to make progress :)
i believe the tree houses used to be used to dry grains in.
Nice video, thank you for sharing. The last governments had not given any maintenance to the roads for the last 8 years or so. They look like just what I remember in the 90s/ early 2000’s. Wishing you the best
Thanks for watching! Road maintenance is certainly not a priority here :)
Congrats !!!!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Congrats!!
Thank you so much!
_Hello from Peru. First time writing in your channel. What a great beautiful land + house you have bought. Some thoughts about the termite. If the wood is good quality hardwood as ceder or mahogany, tornillo , capirona, etc it should not be attacked by termites. Probably the termite is only drilling the interior ceiling in the 2° level , where is the bamboo. It is going to be a never-ending problem, but here in Peru we have a solution. Bamboo should be pre-treated very well before installing. We pretreated from inside and outside of the bamboo_
Thanks for the info!

Thanks guys!
You killed it going over that speed bump sis.
You should see her now! :)
Are you going to sell your house in USA and buy something in Ecuador or keep, how you are going to do that?
We have a video that we will be mak8ng on this topic soon :) thanks for watching!
Is Otavalo the cheapest town to live in or are there other cheaper towns. how about Olon? I just saw that part of your video in which you mentioned that Oslon and generally on the coast is more expensive. Thanks for that comparison.
I'm afraid that I don't know anything about Otavalo. As far as Olon being expensive, it costs more to live here than most other places in Ecuador. With that being said, still much less than living in the U.S.
@@TravelwithJoshandJess Thanks... Wishing you folks all the best
We love you guys! We went to Ecuador last November for the exact reasons you’re talking about. We’re from Southern Utah and hope to be back down there soon!
Thanks! We love you too! Jess grew up in Escalante Utah :) Thanks so much for watching :)
Do you have a budget video? I am interested in Retiring somewhere that is affordable for ONE person on a tight budget. US is becoming Ridiculous. I own my home outright, but the insurance, taxes, food, gas.. everything has become far too expensive. I cannot afford to retire here. YEs even with a paid off house.
Thanks for the question! We know EXACTLY how you feel in regards to the high cost of the U.S. We own our home outright in the U.S. as well. One would think that would free up a bunch of money, but for 2 self-employed semi-retired people paying $1,800/mo in health insurance drained our bank accounts. To answer your question, we don't have a budget video, but the good news, is that our friends Kris and Mike just had a good video they put out touching on that topic about the costs of living here. Here is the link to their video. Thanks for watching czcams.com/video/s1hTfkISZDE/video.htmlsi=fEPEcixNuUv7NFie
Do you plan to sell your house in the USA and use that money to buy something way cheaper in Equador? I think that would be a great idea, BUT I don't know the financial laws of both countries in that respect. I saw another repat who bought about 1/2 acre framr land and had a little house built on it and he spent like about 40-50 gran. Now living free except for food which is already cheap. Interesting. I lived 2-3 months in Otavalo in 1976 and got scared of the tremor and left. I was living on something like about 2 $s daily (cheap rented empty room to sleep and cheap food). That was another era
@@2freakout In about a week, we will be doing a video mentioning what we are doing with our house. Thanks for watching!
I am retiring next March and we are planning to move to Ecuador by next September and we have already started to sell stuff as of this month. If you know you are going to be making the move then start as soon as you can and sell items you can do without.
Definitely a good idea. We didn't start as soon as we should have, but that's ok. Just materialistic stuff. We're very happy with no longer having a bunch of "stuff" in our new home in Ecuador. Thanks for watching!
We miss you guys, take good care of yourselves
¡Gracias amigos! ¡Te echamos de menos!
I loved bolons when I eas there in Ecuador. Now try some abolone!😁
You may see,,,,,,if case not,,,Charlie Sinewan just entred on motorcycle Ecuador from Colombia. Hes fun to wattch. enjoy. hope you are feeling better.
Am digging the intro exit music !! PERFECT 🙂
Thank you!
Nice video, enjoyed the ride along on the VW surfer bus special !
Thank you!
Great Video. We really enjoyed it. Great editing.
Thanks so much!
Friend be careful with the traffic cops they are corrupt and will accept a small bribe in exchange for not giving you a paper citation that is of more value than the bribe they ask you for, be careful in giving money because there are other traffic guards who do not accept and rather set you up trying to blame you for bribing them, They sometimes have cameras in their pockets, I just knew the case of a man who was sentenced to 5 years in jail for giving money to traffic police.
Thank you for the advice my friend and thank you for watching.
Great video, new subscriber, just my opinion don't buy a new car, get used and save a lot
Thanks for subscribing! You'll see in our more current videos what we've purchased :) No new cars for me!
What was the stop for ?
They set up illegal check points in the middle of nowhere and pull everyone over.
Im not driving in Ecuador yet , but I thought just carrying your license and cedula would be good enough, so good info I guess !
I don't have my Ecuadorian drivers license yet but I do have my Cedula. (I didn't have it on me at the time though lol) Even if I would have had my cedula with me, I wouldn't have shown it to them. As soon as we got pulled over, we immediately went into "Here's my U.S. drivers licence, New Gringos to the country, don't speak Spanish, we don't know anything", mode. We feel that if we would have shown our Cedula's, then that may have lead them to believe that we actually know the rules. It can go either way... The Transito are the only thing in this country that I truly can not stand. Not all of them are bad, but most are crooks.
Dude, in Ecuador we cure the flu with lemonade or hot lime juice and paracetamol or acetaminophen 500 mg for three days... And you heal 😂
Wild Mediterranean Oil of Oregano. i kicked the poo outa that thing that shut down the whole world, last winter in 2-3 days after first intake of 4 drops. Yeppers, even heaven has some challenges !
We miss them so much!!
¡Esperamos verlos nuevamente pronto!
See the story about duplicate licenses plates from the grumpy gringo, don shrader. He had to get a lawyer.
