Hey mate, boat is 2008 490 Quintrex Coast Runner. 5.3m overall. 100hp Yamaha 4T. Great all rounder! Fishes the estuaries, lakes, and reasonable weather offshore perfectly. Tows ski tube, skiers and knee board perfectly. I'm thinking of upgrading to a bigger boat one day. Just for a bit of added safety when further offshore.

I don't have one so cant really help. But they are much nicer than my 300. Any 300 2T on the road as a daily isn't going to be really practical. But, hell they are fun! If I could find some single trail to ride on the way to work it'd be awesome! You got one?

Hey mate, great question! The best advice I can give is to build up your experience and confidence bit by bit. You need to learn how your boat handles in different weather conditions and align the real-world experience to the data in the weather forecasts - this helps you really understand what the numbers are and what they mean to you and your boat. You need to slowly build your skills and confidence. Batemans bay is a great spot and reasonably sheltered until you pass yellow rock. But don’t be complacent, it can get rough. Although the bar is a relatively safe one, research how to cross and don’t turn around halfway. I use Willy Weather, and set it up to show wind and swell. Lots of other apps and the BOM is a great point of reference. Also look at the Batemans Bay coastal bar webcam. A typical 5m boat should be absolutely fine in the bay if you are being careful and learning step by step. If your really new to boating, put in some time in the estuary and run up to the Hanging rock boat ramp and back during different weather situations. Then venture out to Snapper Island for your next step. As a rough place to start, low swell, less than 1m and light winds sub 5 knots would be safe for most. Keep an eye out for marine park boundaries too. Let me know how you go. Maybe I’ll make a beginners guide video if there is interest.

Bateman's is a good spot with plenty of fish. Lookup where the marine park boundaries are and keep yourself aware of them. Visit the local fishing shop - they will give you some current advice. If your staying inside the bay, I'd look at the northern side, starting well inside the bay, moving shallow to deeper looking for structure, or over sand looking for flathead. Move further east and repeat until you find some fish. If your going outside the bay, just head straight out, mindful of the marine park and try your luck , watching your sounder for structure as it gets deeper. Paternoster rig is my go to. 4/0 to 6/0 circle hooks. Fresh bait. You might need some big sinkers to hold bottom if the weather isn't perfect. Good luck. Be careful if your new to boating. Your Fishabout will be very similar I'd say. I think it looks a bit rougher in the vid cause the camera is attached to the boat. Wasn't that rough. A 5m boat is a good size but you still need to pick your weather and sea conditions to be safe. Will you be fishing out of Batemans?

Locking like not rotating? OR do you mean they are jamming/jumping a bit when you drive with the diff lock on?

I locked my rear on offroad and went around a corner and it felt like it was binding..I turned the diff l off,backed up and it made awful noise..but seems ok now
