The symptoms of anxiety and depression are discussed and compared. Techniques to improve these conditions in the face of the uncertainty of the COVID-19 epidemic are shared.
In this episode, I, Gina Ryan, delve into the topic of anxiety and depression amidst the current landscape of uncertainty that we all face globally. The key takeaway is that it's natural for life to be uncertain, and accepting this fact can alleviate the need for control, leading to a lighter mental state. Both anxiety and depression have become more prevalent due to the heightened uncertainty, with many experiencing these feelings, making it important to understand the differences between the two.
Anxiety is characterized by apprehension about the future, worried thoughts, and a desire to avoid triggering situations. On the other hand, depression manifests as sadness, hopelessness, and lack of belief in positive outcomes. It's crucial to recognize these thinking symptoms in ourselves and those around us. Physical symptoms differ between anxiety and depression, with anxiety often presenting as the fight or flight response, while depression may lead to severe lack of energy, appetite changes, and sleep disturbances.
Moreover, there can be a crossover of symptoms between anxiety and depression, which can exacerbate each other if left unchecked. Seeking help and support if experiencing heightened anxiety or depression is crucial, as both conditions are treatable with the right approach and commitment to improving mental health. It's essential not to feel shame or embarrassment in asking for help and to understand that the path to overcoming these challenges may have ups and downs, requiring patience and self-compassion. Together, we can navigate these difficult emotions and work towards a healthier mental state. Remember, depression lies; it tells you that you've always felt this way and always will, but that's not the truth. Stay strong, be patient with yourself, and know that with effort and time, improvement is possible.

    Thank you so much for the cortisol adrenaline morning info. I’m woke up by what feels like adrenaline pumping in my stomach and causing legs to ache. So the mornings are bad. I also have bad dizziness from vestibular disorders and having it daily I’m under stress all the time and I now can see how the day before with stress can cause this morning adrenaline surges and anxiety. I appreciate you sharing this and your information. Thank you

      This meditation was powerful! I was having terrible anxiety... At the moment I started to identify my feelings my symptoms and fear went up. If I react with alarm, the energy is so uncomfortable. I have become much more able to step back and see anxiety reactions for what they are -- and arent'

    I never to stop fearing my heart, tachycardia and palpitations are scary but after so many test my heart is healthy. I feel like Gerd makes my anxiety and fears so much worse. I was anxiety/panic attack free for 8 months. This set back can’t determine who i am
