This is a channel to capture my head first dive back into comic collecting. I never like to do things half-heartedly and my return to comics has been no different đ.
My focus is on Gold, Silver, and Bronze Age keys, so thatâs what Iâll be showing most of the time but a few moderns might slip in occasionally đ€·ââïž.
I will be showing unboxings of my latest trades and purchases as well as share tips that I have picked up for buying, selling, and grading comics.
My goal is to post a new video at least once per week, so remember to subscribe to stay up to date with any new content.

Stop giving CGC any business...
How many 'high grade' CGC Hulk 181's are out there with the coupon clipped? I guess we'll never know, as nobody is gonna crack those cases open.
CGC is ghast lighting their customers about the damage that they're causing but im sure theyll hold customers accountable if they want a reholder or resubmit a book for a signing. SMH
Glad i never got into the grading game !
I'm starting to get scared to even *buy* recently-slabbed CGC books. lol. It's scary out there. The chances you take with buying slabs online nowadays are almost as bad as buying raws online.
Anderson Carol Smith Sharon Williams Susan
I agree, no more subissions until resoution and compensation for damaged booksl
I would say the other competitors have passed CGC by but CGC still has the name recognition, so they remain #1. It's just not fair.
I am also seeing ridiculous high bids on Auctions that are waaay above prices avail in many places!!! Seeing this a lot on Goldin!!
Thanks for the shout out, and thanks for helping to shine a light on this so we can continue talking about this issue. I agree that CGC's responses (there was also one that Swagglehaus shared) have been deeply disappointing, and they seem primarily concerned about limiting their liability rather than protecting the people who trusted them with their collectables.
Thank you for the update appreciate the video
Everyone keeps using CGC black rock is just a money grab and we are still idiots yet we donât go to CBCS. Iâm done with them.
I have decided to start grading some Star Wars comics from the 1977 series. I come across your video about this issue. I've decided to send them to PGX. Mainly because of cost. To my surprise CGC is actually cheaper then PGX for the three books I'm sending in. Due to the bend gate PGX is my choice. I am going to check out PSA in the near future. I'm hoping by them entering the grading business better quality will come out of all the companies as a whole.
Youâre better off keeping them raw than sending to PGX
I'm a big fan of this, pressing comics is dishonest. this brings them back out.
I haven't used my subscription credit for the year. Every time I think I'm safe to ship something off, there's another scandal. Not sure what I'll do in the remaining months but I'm 100% certain I'll cancel for next year.
Iâm in the same spot right now. Itâs just been a sunk cost at this point.
No.#1 rule when your guilty. DENY, DENY, DENY.
Official response.. Nothing to see here, move on.
I think itâs time to go back to Texas.
CGC was great for awhile. I think it all started going downhill once it became owned by Blackrock
I can see where some people are being overly nitpicky, But there is obvious bigger bends that do warrant reholdering.
*REMEMBER* You have 5 days to issue a complaint after receiving books back. Get that initial call on record to get the ball rolling.
EXTREMELY POOR response from CGC. To conclusively say it does not damage the comic book is outright false. Purely defensive and financially motivated. This is scummy corporate speak. I have stood by CGC until this point; however, now considering pulling out. The economy is terrible, so everyone is desparate to make their $$, apparently including CGC. Cool heads will prevail.
I wonder how many of these defects are from books that had pressing work done on them.
People are idiots. Let's continue to keep using CGC and bitch about everything they do. There's other grading companies to use đ
Great video Ryan, thanks for the shoutout. I thought the response was joke at first. I've just found another book in my collection thats curved. I'm so annoyed. Awaiting for CBCS response now!
Every time CGC updates their slabs there seems to be a learning curve on their end for some reason. I remember when, a few years ago, they went with new slabs and a bunch of books were coming back damaged. I still have a book they damaged but still managed to get a 9.8 from them and this was 6-7 years ago. The more this happens the more I think older CGC labels will get priced at a premium. Also makes me think about going more raw.
Cgc is done
CGC knows that people will still send their books to them regardless. No other service is a legitimate competitor. Until a serious competitor arises (where their books sell consistently more than CGC), CGC can take these risks. For those who say they wonât send their books to CGC - CGC is calling your bluff. It is just a matter of time before you cave. CGC knows they have the upper hand here. They are banking on buyers like me who will never buy a non-CGC graded book because their market prices significantly lag those of CGC. When you consider the high volume of books that are still being submitted to CGC as we speak, Iâll bet that the percentage of those that are damaged in the process is very, very tiny. However, it is that tiny % that gets magnified (and overblown) by the comic community.
I just got a bend gate book from CGC .. I have at least x25 high end books there. If any of them are bent during slabbing Iâll be looking for compensation. đą
Annnd people continue to send in comic's to the biggest legal scam going... ugh
CGC continue to disappoint with their blase attitude. They're basically telling collectors not to believe their lying eyes. Collectors are the experts, they know what to look for and they are worth more than this. Don't lie to your customers for profit, whatever your business, EVER! Reputation and reliability is everything, and I would judge that CGC is losing both by the bucket load.
You heard them, it doesn't effect the grade. So however many 9.9's that they've put out into the world that now have obvious spine ticks...are still 9.9's dangit! CGC said so!
nobody is leaving cgc until the books by other grading companies have comparable sales on the secondary market and thats not gonna happen anytime soon they have people over a barrel and they know it đđđ
CGC needs to fix this quickly-it is clearly a mechanical failure in the encasement design! CBCS's case design is superior; their label now looks better than CGC's, and Beckett is a far better trusted business in the collectibles world. IMO CGC commanding higher prices is about to switch with a hard correction, similar to the way Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash swapped values in a single day (didn't stick but same concept). That event was called "The Flipping," and I see a similar event approaching, where more CGC comics are inspected and found to have deteriorated or developed new defects while encapsulated. I say let "The Flipping" begin, and CBCS should command the higher price, while all CGC graded comics should be devalued to compensate for the inferior encapsulation and case quality.
What a disaster. CGC selling protection for comics has become a meme and they aren't aware. I've never seen a company sabotage it's own market like this. Maybe the guy who wants to do better should hire "comic people." just sayin
Wow, they just told everyone to go f@# themselvesđ unreal..
*The Ugly Ducklings - Gaslight* czcams.com/video/p0UNigmPNx0/video.html
Bring on PSA.
Man I just got my giant size back and there are smudges inside the case like dirt my fingers prints. I am afraid to reholder and lose the grade it got a 5.5 itâs 3.0 at best đ should i reholder and risk the grade loss
Just crack it out and keep it raw until PSA comes along.
@@DocReasonable I think the point is that he'll lose the 5.5 grade. I think he should sell the slabbed 5.5 and use the money to buy another 3.0 or higher raw comic.
I just don't even understand it anymore. I guess ego and narcissism is winning. They are gaslighting all of use and at this point probably believe their own lies, and think that they are really this untouchable.
Boycott CGC people. So you like the case then suffer the consequences in silence. đą
Being a comic fan, weâre nerds already. But graded and slabbed comic is a level of turbo nerd I hope I never reach
Way back, CGC introduced new holders that caused books to 'creep'. Then Newton rings. Was it last year that someone (more?) figured out how to do the 'ol switcheroo? Followed closely by employees that were outright stealing books. Now it's case issues again. I don't use grading services, so my opinion doesn't count, but let me ask...what would CGC or any grading company have to do for a person to stop sending books to same?
I think we are at the moment. I have a CGC elite membership that I WILL NOT RENEW this year. I will try both CBCS and PSA this coming year.
BLACKSTONE is Not interested in customer service, they are interested in whatever makes the numbers go up while protecting themselves legally, this kind of crap was inevitable once they were purchased by Blackstone. Sorry they will continue to do things like this and the current generation of collectors overall will phase out and it wonât matter once they have affected the culture of the hobby through a number of subtle means. Sorry it is what it is
CGC will never admit fault. That would open up a class-action lawsuit. Expect them to quietly resolve the issue and put it in the rearview mirror.đ
The other day I was at my local comic shop. I saw a 9.7 comic and another same comic at a 9. I compared them and the 9.4 had a fold and the 9 was perfectly fine. I went ahead and got the 9. The fold on the 9.7 was close to the center of the book. How is someone not able to close a book normally? But I was satisfied with the 9
I'd be wary of a CGC 9.7 comic book. Just sayin.
Remember people CBCS does exist. If the book is going into your collection who cares if the book could potentially sell for a few more bucks for CGC fanboys.
The financial liabilty is massivei if they admit the issue. They'll likely be on the hook for less if they get sued and lose than if they admit it.
Definitely true. But Iâm curious what is potentially more costly, the short term loss of paying out or reslabbing/pressing a bunch of books or the long term loss of business.
@@AutomaticComics Once upon a time, yes. CGC is now a fairly large entity. Once they reach a certain size, companies tend to lose sight of long term planning/consequences and focus on quarter to quarter results. It leads to some really poor choices, but everybody gets their bonuses.
@@AutomaticComics the question of whether or not this results in any long term loss of business is up in the air at the moment, though. Are people who like to slab going to just stop slabbing? As it stands, cgc slabs still carry a not insignificant higher return in the market. Maybe cbcs takes advantage of this in a way that closes the gap, but that isn't a definite and even if it does happen, how long would it take? I know I'm not the only one hoping JSA can hit the ground running when they start grading. This hobby needs a truly viable alternative.
