Apple Pie in a Glass! || Newtons Law Cocktail Recipe
It’s time to fall into fall, with a Newton’s Law.
This cocktail might as well be an apple pie in a glass, as it’s really tasty and packed full of apple and baking spices! The key ingredient here is the apple butter, which is essentially some nice sweet apples, cooked down with sugar and spices to form a sweet, spicy spread. The flavours will vary depending on the brand you buy or recipe you use, so feel free to play around with the recipe and find your ideal ratio.
My apple butter is really full of apple and spice flavours, so while some recipes call for 2 or 3 teaspoons of apple butter, I instead used just one large teaspoon, and a little bit of brown sugar syrup as if I used more apple butter, the sweetness would have been right, but apple and spice would have been all I could taste… The other ingredients are a classic bourbon, I’ve used Buffalo Trace, and some lemon juice to round it all out.
Let me know your favourite apple cocktail in the comments below!
Check out our review of Buffalo Trace Bourbon here!

Newton’s Law cocktail recipe:
60ml Bourbon
20ml lemon juice
15ml sugar syrup
1 tsp apple butter
Shake with ice and strain onto a rock of ice
Garnish with a lemon zest and a pinch of ground cinnamon.

I'm a total whiskey nerd and this channel is all about Whiskey, Whisky, Bourbon, Rye, Pot Still Whiskey and Single Malt Whiskey. I'm always on the hunt for the best whiskey and love making whiskey review videos. My passion is for Irish whiskey, but I'm open to looking for the best Bourbon or the best scotch too!
I'm an Irishman, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying whiskeys from all around the world, from Kentucky bourbon to Japanese single malts. I also love making cocktails, especially whiskey cocktails (or whisky cocktails) and really enjoy taking a classic recipe and adding my own twist to it, or making simple, 3 ingredient cocktails

Buffalo Trace Bourbon review

Is this really an “Everyman’s Bourbon”? The Buffalo Trace distillery has been around for a long time, but it wasn’t always called by that name. It passed through a number of hands before being taken over by the Sazerac Company, and being renamed to the Buffalo Trace Distillery in 1999. The distillery is responsible for some really high-end bourbons like Eagle Rare and Weller, as well as some un...

    @mmtx73 Před dnem

    Interesting, there's another one, the stone fence, same flavor profile but not as rich since no apple butter. 2 oz. bourbon over ice, 3-4 oz. apple cider to top, a couple dashes angostura. Stir to mix in your glass. You can, if you so choose, top it with a little hard cider. Gives the drink some carbonation and a touch more sweetness. You can really use pretty much any brown spirit as your base, but I prefer the bourbon. Really easy to make, great fall sipper.

    Prefer it to Makers Mark but for the price in Ireland and the fact that it's 40% I wouldn't bother with it again, much prefer Bulleit, Woodford Reserve and Eagle Rare. Would very much like to try the proper 45% version

      Yeah, there's definitely better bourbon options for the same price in Ireland. I got the "Baby Buffalo" bottles, which are at 45% in the Celtic Whiskey Shop, but I'd say a load of off licences also stock them. We have a video comparing the two versions coming out on Monday

  • @aaronmckenna6654

    Given how difficult it has been to find in the US, I feel blessed that here in Ireland it’s basically available everywhere. I prefer Eagle Rare, just that aged up stuff, but wouldn’t sniff at BT. For €32-35 it’s a lovely bourbon, and then about €50 for Eagle Rare is a good step up. Compared in price range to something like Jameson Black Barrel (€50 retail, often on offer €30, which is the ‘real’ price I’d buy it at) BT is complex enough (different style, but just thinking of what you get for your money). If you have tasted a lot of their more “premium” stuff you can see the thread that runs through all the way from basic BT. Stagg etc, you can draw yourself back to basic BT.

    • @TheWhiskeyNerd
      @TheWhiskeyNerd Před 3 dny

      There's definitely a solid through-line with their products. I was at a Buffalo Trace Antique Collection tasting at the Distilled bar in Dublin last year (closed now unfortunately) and it was really great to see the evolution through the older eagle rares, 1792 and through to Pappy

    It was a fun watch despite the obvious curating by the nerd. However he forgot one important piece of advice when sipping cask strength, which is to take smaller sips. There shouldn't be enough liquid in the mouth to cause gagging when swallowing. I still recall a tasting group, almost all men, who had trouble handling their first cask strength, the Glenfarclas 105. It was deemed undrinkable. Of course they have all moved on and a few years ago we had a cask strength tasting which included a rum.

    • @TheWhiskeyNerd

    Was home last week, got 2 bottles of illegal poitin. One with a nice yellow tint and the other pure white. Brought them both back with me!

    I love this whiskey. For my palate it felt a bit harsh at first taste but when I added two small pieces of ice it softened it for me and really opened up the sweet aroma of oak. For me I usually don't add ice or water but have noticed that adding ice to oak and stout finishes it opens certain whiskeys to me.

      Thanks for sharing! And yeah, for the reviews, I always just drink the whiskey as presented, but there are plenty of whiskeys in my collection which are improved a little (or a lot!) by a drop of water or an ice cube. Might do a video comparing a whiskey neat, with ice, with water, and from the freezer, to see how much it can change!

      I'd say a pot still Irish whiskey like Powers Three Swallow could do well. This whiskey had a nice bit of citrus and chocolate notes, so I can imagine certain bourbons also working, maybe with slight tweaks to the other ingredients
