Everything I knit in 2023 - my favorites, honorable mentions, and one and done patterns.
I'm terrible about commenting WAAAY after the videos have been posted but it's too funny that you vacation in Grand Marais. My hubby and I lived in Thunder Bay, Ontario from 2009-2019 and it's such a short drive that we went there for a date! I bought an Italian merino sweater at a thrift store and we had lunch at an awesome bar with some kind of collection behind the bar...I think it was ball caps from different places? Or maybe dollar bills? We also wend to Grand Portage casino but did not hit it big lol. I keep editing this comment because I'm looking at a map and while I am not a skier, lots of my friends went to Lutsen P.S. I got the Nespresso advent too ;)
Just catching up 🙃 and was so excited to see Get Bentz Farm and our cameos and shoutouts! I love the MN knitting community so much, just an amazing, talented, fun group of makers. Your podcast is so thoughtful, humorous and inspiring.🥰
I'm ready to do salty day myself. I have the yarn but i can't decide what color. I ordered some blank yarn to dye the color I want (once I decide).
😊 i know what you.mean about so many patterns i get a little fixated on certain styles. Thank you for sharing some patterns I have heard of but some new ones also. 😊good luck in choosing I too want to use some of my stash but then I see certain yarns that I want to try. I love your top what pattern 😊
I love your Alpine colors! How are you going to decide!!?!
I've never wanted to be in Minnesota more on September 1st.
Hi, Emily! I am sitting on my porch and watching this. I am so excited to spend time with you. Girl, I am also SO READY for fall and winter.
Hello! I watched an old vid of yours that popped up on my feed and decided that, in keeping with some of my type A traits (although I think as a whole, I'm more type B) I would start from the beginning lol. I just wanted to tell you that I, too have a love of houseplants. All 75? of mine lol I recently acquired a Monstera Thai Constellation which is a prize!
Thank you for watching! And congratulations on getting a Thai Con! What a gorgeous plant.
So many beautiful sweater (and vest) patterns! Sounds like you should get the KFO silk for the tee as you kept coming back to it. Also, if you know you're going to start knitting it as soon as you get the yarn, technically it is not being added to stash 😉
I like the way you think 🤣🤣🤣
What's the pattern you're wearing? I love it!
Hi! It is an unnamed Jennifer Steingass pattern I tested this spring but she never released it. Hopefully she will decide to publish soon.
Another Salty Days here. Loved the knit and also love the garment.
Oh that is so great! What yarn did you use for yours?
It’s hard to tell the color in the video, but what would the green tree house yarn look like with the pink Spincycle for the Hesper? I can’t tell if it would be pink and green and planty- like a succulent, or if it would be terrible together.
Oh I love a pink and green combo!!! Good idea!
New to me podcast, I am really enjoying it!! I cast on the Rib Wave sweater this afternoon because it has been on my radar since it was released. I love the way she writes a pattern and have knit a few of hers before. I'm trying to make mine budget friendly so I'm using Drops Baby Merino and Drops Kid Silk Mohair. This is going to be my Tgiving sweater. So far this is engaging but not overwhelming.
Welcome and thank you for watching! That is going to be a lovely combo - what color did you select?
@@thebotanicalknitter Of course the colors are #s but they are a dusty amethyst color which is pretty. Par for the course I've already ripped out the whole first day's work and will start again today. The first of short rows killed me, I struggle with reading charts for flat knitting!! I hope it will be worth it in the end!!
Holy cats! You will need a sabbatical! I appreciate how you broke these down by category. One of my friends made the Lodestar and it looks really good - an underrated pattern, IMHO.
If only I could take a making sabbatical and spend my days knitting and sewing! 😂 Thanks for sharing about the Lodestar!
I've been ready for Fall & Winter since June when it was extremely HOT outside and I decided to read The Palace of the Snow Queen by Barabara Sjoholm and it currently sits at NUMBER 1! for the Year. I am currently working on a sweater for the St. Peter Yarn Shop which also has a Knit along Septemeber 1 and I want to do both. I am going to be working on the Harvest Pullover Sweater by the Make & Do Crew using some Yarn from Muse2320 and planning on Making a couple of Carigians as well. Bella says Hello by the way.
get the knitting for olive pure silk!!!! It's one of my favorites to wear
Thank you for enabling me 😂💚
I don’t think that the gray and merlot have enough contrast. Either of your other combinations would work well though.
I think you are right!
I love the moment when you say, "Holy shit, I have a lot of things I want to knit." Sooooo relatable 😆 All your options are lovely! I especially love the green and white color combo idea for the tessellated vest 😍
@@daydreaming_knitter 🤣🤣🤣 so many good patterns, so little time.
Your plans are so fun and I’m loving the yarn parade 😍
@@brookwillow thanks!
Loved hearing your ideas for projects :) Test knitting has derailed my stash-only goals and project plans right now haha. I knit the Grist sweater by Brooklyn Tweed, which is all over texture and I really love it. It did seem to take forever and by the end I was getting frustrated having to keep track of the chart for the entire thing with no plain knitting, but it was worth it.
@@meganthroughthebackloop what a gorgeous sweater!!! I hear you on test knits derailing everything.
Rib wave pullover KAL please I love it tooo!!!!
@@SallyGKnits stay tuned! 😊
i love the top that you're wearing! i am knitting on my first ever intarsia sweater whilst watching although unfortunately in Australia we are coming into spring soon so it probably won't be worn until autumn of 2025.
Thanks! It’s a Jennifer Steingass pattern that I tested this spring but it hasn’t been published yet. I haven’t tried Intarsia yet…but you will have something to look forward to once cooler weather rolls around again!
@@thebotanicalknitter thank you I will look out for the release!
Beautiful queue! I love project planning - the yarn, the looking at everyone's projects and fit and styling, the pattern matching, the color(s), etc. The RibWave is giving me Romantasy/SciFi YA series vibes and I'm here for it (new to me designer too). Gorgeous. So fun to see your thought process on pattern and yarn pairings - I love that process of finding that perfect match. Go with your gut feelings! Take care and excited to see what all you cast on!!! ~Stephanie P.S. - Testing three sweater patterns currently scheduled for September and Oct releases for Aimee Sher and Tori Yu has put me in the fall sweater mode already! Though I knit whatever I feel like knitting year round so ...😅lol.
This is the most project planning I’ve ever done…it really helped get all the ideas in my head organized. And three tests?! Can’t wait to see them.
On both of the Petite Knit patterns- I haven’t made those exact ones but I have the No Frills sweater twice and struggled with getting a flattering fit. (Yes, I know flattering isn’t necessarily the goal, but visibly poorly fitting also isn’t.) I’ve since found out that her patterns often done work very well for bustier and fatter knitters. I’m generally a L/XL with a similar bust to you and have concluded that she’s not doing the top half to accommodate those of us with drastically different bodies to hers. I could be wrong, just a forewarning. Oh, and I also have incredibly broad shoulders which might honestly be more of the issue now that I think about it. 😅
This is really helpful - thank you!!!
For the Colette sweater I’d definitely say buy the silk so you want to do it for work. It could become one of those absolute long term favorites since you love it so much and at that point the silk is worth it for the big picture.
Love this!
I’ve also got a textured sweater like the first you mentioned on my agenda for the fall. It’s worsted weight but generally similar looking and I’m going with firmer knit and boxy because I’m afraid drape could cause the stitch pattern to get lost.
Good point!
I have knit the Salty Days sweater and really enjoyed it. According to the pattern I should have knit XL for my size, but I chose size L and was happy that I did. 😊
Thank you for sharing - so helpful!

Good thinking!
i so love veronica lindburg!!!
Me too! I bought her book purely for the Salty Days sweater, but there are lots of lovely makes in there too.
just right for my afternoon. thanks. i really like watching your podcast. vlogcast. i get confused:)
Hooray! Happy viewing. And it’s all the same 😂
Very inspirational projects! Thanks for sharing all of it!
Summer is the perfect time for a lemon-lime moment! 🍋🍋🟩
OMG you must wear your little checks socks with the purple checked Hinterland dress. VIBES.
My birthday is soon too! When is yours? ☺️☺️☺️
I’m so impressed and inspired by your sewing 💛 can’t wait to see you at sacred sheep. I hope we can knit and sew matching outfits 💛
Hi friend! Your outfit 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
👍👍💚
That was a fun visit!
Looks like a great trip! I’d love to see the Biltmore decorated for Christmas. Black Mountain Yarn Shop has so much good stuff, and I think they’ve expanded since I was there. I am still looking for a strong excuse to buy Magpie Plume. 😅
Your spinning looks incredible. You are doing great.
@@darlenedavis3585 thank you, Darlene!
Your projects are all incredible. Nice to see you are really enjoying your sewing. Geat projects and colors.
I had a corgi as a teen/young adult…best dogs ever!
Oh your hinterland dress is absolutely stunning !
I'm really loving all your projects and finished objects! Your hand spun is so pretty! Wow, I have never been interested in trying Brioche until I see your Vice Versa shawl and, I love the thought that this pattern would be my first Brioche project!
Nice job on all your finished projects! Good job using the built-in stitches on your sewing machine. I always forget to use mine! You can always make a faux button placket if you don't need a garment to open down the front, but want the look of a button band. Just stitch the band as instructed, but instead of cutting the buttonholes open, just sew on a button through the buttonhole and onto the under placket to make it look like you can button it. Now that you know how shorts pieces are shaped, you could make your own pattern. The j-shape is the part of the short that go between your legs, so the total length of the j in the front and the j in the back need to be long enough to travel from the front to the back of your body. The outer side of the shorts are the part that travels around your body, so need to match your hips plus ease. Shorts can even be made with one pattern piece (front and back taped together) with a fold down paper-bag waist. Love your fabric choices and your Emily custom yarn color! Lemon-lime is really your color!
Your Seagrass Tank is so polished and in that neutral cream, goes with everything! LOVING your lemon-lime era. So summery and vibrant and emits (literally?? lol) such a positive vibe. Cheering you on through your continued sewing journey!!! Take care friend ~Stephanie
Those are the cutest socks that I have seen in a long time.
you are making me want to get better at sewing and finally try making some clothes instead of just project bags. the dress you are wearing is LIFE!!
Loving the shorts 😊
I used to have an easy time with my Yarn Stash, but now that Mary's Lou Yarn in St. Peter Mn is open more often and has coffee has made it hard to since I recently added to my Project List. I haven't used up any of the Yarn since the Yarn Shop Hop.
