Exploring Scorched Trails: ATV Ride After Wildfire & Controlled Burn

There was a wildland fire caused by lightning west of Pagosa Springs near the trails we ride. The forest service took the opportunity to execute a controlled burn in the area to mitigate risk from future fires. Its been 50 years. First time in a 1948 stock jeep, second time in a two wheel drive truck, and last time at night coming back from Lake City.
Used to live just outside of Creede and my Daughter attended school at the K through 12 in town. Look at all of those trees and melted reality! Amazing place. Thanks for the tour. I really enjoyed it minus the his story narrative.

Did the same route back in the fall and it was great. That last switchback coming off Cinnamon at the Engineer Pass / Animas Forks junction was the only part where I felt uncomfortable, as it is very sloped and there was no room for error.

I don't know, dealing with side by sides whipping around the pass and in Lake City, sometimes feel I can deal with highway bozos a bit more.
I’ve done that loop before and I loved it
Love it! A few years ago, my Tacoma lost traction on the last big switchback where you’re at. Scary experience! Luckily the TRD had rear differential lock and pulled me through!
I agree and you're gonna be hard-pressed to find people going to 70 miles an hour and any interstate oh well maybe on the ramp😂

Beautiful out there. I get it. At least, out there, it's predictable to a degree. Highways include crazies with a whole sack-o-issues, ready to unload 'em on whomever's handy. Mosquito Pass is nice, too.
What Campsites are there to use while doing the alpine loop?
We camped at Williams Creek campground by Lake San Cristobal outside of Lake City. There are several camping areas, some charge per tent, others charge per site. The water spigot wasn't working when we were there, which was an issue. They do have nice bathrooms though.

Right off the road at Lake San Cristobal outside of Lake City. There is a fishing area, small marina, cabins, along with campsites all around the lake.
