The 100 proof Early Times blue top is one of my rebuys, not always on the shelves for my local fair prices store, but I usually see it every month or so back on the shelves. My other 2 rebuys are 100 proof Old Grand-Dad, and 90 proof Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey. $21 to $31. The Bernheim is the smoothest and most expensive. The Old Grand-Dad is in the middle for smoothness, and the Early Times is a little more rough for the burn/Kentucky Hug. Still good enough for me to buy as every third bottle, based on the low price and the after effects the next few hours, and the next morning after 2 shots. I hope none of these 3 change for the worse later. I never tried the older black top version of Early Times.

It's a little pricey $45 for an 88 proof bourbon, I know that most comments are saying it's not a good buy but it's actually pretty good in an old fashioned. You get a sweat finished nose with cherry, vanilla & oak notes. 🥃Cheers!

I like both black cap and blue cap versions. I have 8 black cap bottles bunkered, because I am retiring next June. When I blind them, I prefer the black cap. It seems a little oilier. 🥃

Maybe I need to let this open up more but I'm pretty disappointed with this bottle. Picked one up Friday night and cracked it open tonight. I get a ton of vanilla extract on the nose and black pepper on the pallet and finish. It's super spicy and tannic. I loved A124 but this one is not what I want in a bourbon.

Grabbed a bottle of 81 proof by accident and I'm not disappointed, although I prefer 101 the 81 just has way more flavor.

Never have been lucky enough to be at the distillery when the 117 series bottles are released and have never seen one in the wild. Secondary is higher than I'm willing to pay, so I'll probably never try or own a bottle. Fun review, though!

I think that the 117 series is a distillery exclusive. I think the variations between an allocated option vs the available is very small. I think I have a Russell's pick that is probably just as good as a 13 or single rickhouse.

Yep, everyday sourced MGP. I've gotten two things a bit different off those bottles once in a a while - light nuts or a whiff of orange like an orange blossom. What you got doesn't sound nutty so I wonder if what you couldn't identify was a bit orange citrus. At full proof MGP tends to give me a combined graham cracker taste to it.
