United States
Registrace 11. 11. 2016
Welcome to The Roving Naturalist! On this channel, I want to answer all of the questions you never knew you had about how humans and the natural environment fit together. We'll explore topics related to humans and nature - everything from vegetarianism to green living to how to build a backyard habitat. We'll discuss books about nature, the environment, and science. We'll hear from all kinds of scientists, ranging from seasoned experts to graduate students at the beginning of their research careers. And of course, I'll bring you with me as I go on some of my favorite bike rides, ski trails, paddling trips, and hikes so that we can be roving naturalists together. Subscribe for content that gets you excited about natural science!
Vlogging in Montreal
I spent a week in Montreal for an academic conference, and while I was there I had a chance to visit two amazing urban green spaces: the botanical garden and the biodome! My friends and I had a lovely day walking around the botanical garden, and I really enjoyed seeing how the old Olympic park buildings had been retro-fitted into educational buildings!

Looking at Bugs in Ecuador

The highlight of my adventure in Ecuador was definitely the bugs! We took SO long on every hike because we stopped so often to look at and photograph the amazing arthropods and other invertebrates we saw. We also did light trapping almost every night to see all of the beautiful moths. "Dreams Become Real" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licens...
Birding in Ecuador

I love birding, and when I had a chance to look at birds in a whole new ecosystem, I brought out my camera! Enjoy this soothing photo dump of some of the birds I saw on my trip to Ecuador. Sorry for not putting the names of all the hummingbirds up, but there were just too many! See if you can spot my favorite, the white-booted racket-tail, though ;) "Music for Manatees" Kevin MacLeod (incompete...

Do bug zapping bruises heal
The question mark at the end of the title is hilarious. The Amazon rainforest is disappearing. Humans have historically leveled eco systems. We’ve managed to trigger the largest & most dramatic hyper-thermal event in earth’s history. As a collective, human beings are invasive basically anywhere we go. Edit: oh, did we happen to ask how most invasive species wind up on different continents? Like who’s intervention usually causes that to happen?
Invasive by definition or not we are the most detrimental species that has walked earth. Currently 96% of all mammals being us and livestock, the thousands of species of wildlife only making up 4%, which is absolutely dystopian
Coming from Edx course, very interesting video.
She got a Chad build
Wow, I wish I could be her friend. A beauty here. Appears to be highly intelligent.
It's not invasion if It's already ours by right
If you care about something you'll protect it. Education goes a long way to create and grow emotional connections with the environment.
Great information. Provided in a fun manner. Well done. 👍
Hell naw
Quite an educative video. A quick one please, assuming you are sampling up to 10 plots of land, how do you go about this?
How did you remembered 8 minutes of lecture with a difficult contents
Haha oh I definitely did not memorize the whole script in one go, I break it up into smaller chunks!
Full of information and knowledge
Brilliant presentation
If I never eat another almond again. I'd be absolutely okay.
We are ultimate and most destructive invasive species
amazing video.
We are very invasive. Everywhere you look there is destruction because of us
Thank you, it was very interesting.
You are dancing good ❤
I am also naturalist
Thanks! Enjoyed your video.
According to the MDC or Missouri department of conservation This plant is edible
The fruit is edible and tastes amazing but if eaten before ripe it will make you sick
wait where is the bird, can you point at it again?
I like the way you used a plasticcup
Yes we humans are the pest.....
Congratulations Dr. Sheryl
Thank you Sheryl, great information and I can say that I've already been revising my chocolate consumption.
Huge congrats!!!
Congratulations Sheryl!
way to go! thanks for sharing
doctor birdlady!!
love this video!!
Nice job! Very informative. 😀
I started birding two weeks ago in my backyard. So far I have identified and photographed 24 species. I started using eBird last week. It’s very useful. :)
Wow, that's great!
je t'urine dessus
The answer is YES. And it deserved capitalized letters.
Lov yr dedication and love you mam
Thanks for the video. I really appreciate the information.
The only thing I do with my bug zapper, I just leave it in my bedroom to zap the mosquitoes in the room one hour before sleeping. If it zaps something else, it's usually clothe bugs or flies, and generally insects that I would kill anyway if I saw them in my room
THAT'S ONE JOB I'M NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO!!!
The distinction here only works because insects have a much more basic society which only revolves around physical reproduction. In human society most are free to reproduce offspring, but only a chosen few can reproduce their ideas and spread influence through generations.
Thank you! Very helpful! What do you all include in a cold email?
Great question! In a cold email to a potential advisor, I would include a summary of my background and research interests, as well as the reason(s) why you want to join that person's lab. That should be more specific than just "I like birds" -- think about whether you want to do field work, whether you're interested in certain research methods or analytical frameworks, or if there are specific research directions that are of mutual interest to you and that person. Knowing more specifics of what you're interested in might require doing a bit of background reading in the published literature before you start reaching out to people.
You got it all wrong. Industrial Technological System is the super organism. Humans are just a reproductive organ of the Machine.
Now I see why mines not working ;/ amazing video!
THank you for this video!
Very well done! One of the best and most practical/user-friendly descriptions of a point count I have seen so far!
I have one in my apartment for flys or any flying bug. It works amazingly. I use it as a night light and the zapping is a plus.
Beautiful little bird ❤
