Own your shit?! That’s how
How does this not have more views
Sorry new guy here, what’s a paddle wheel?
Paddle wheels are scrapers that pull the material in without the assistance of another dozer or scraper. It pulls it in with a track system that has small blades/buckets to pull the material in.
I really want to stop being like that. How did you do it?
Went and got someone to talk to. It helps alot
That's not the mentality in just the trades, it's everywhere... But it's usually the ones who don't want to learn, and rest on their laurels, that will not help the next generation be better.
Best job in town until the next job. Ain't always something being built where you live
That's whether or not you need a surveyor and how good that dude needs to be
It doesn’t take but a couple of minutes to shoot baseline elevations, if the fill is delivered deficient… the prime can either negotiate up for additional labor and material, or eat my mobilization costs and spend the next 4 days finding someone else.
Wages in construction have been historically low because there is no barrier to entry! Anyone and everyone can take up the job! And most clients go for the lowest bidder! I just changed my profession
Every single person I know working in construction here in Illinois is in a labor union and making great money and doing top tier work.
Inflation hurts everyone, employees, bosses, customers.
That's just not true. Inflation can benefit everyone and does when it doesn't happen too fast. Inflation is a fundamental part of a healthy economy, you just want it at 2% and not 7%. You want to see a dying economy? Look for deflation.
5 years lol thank you for correcting him hahaha
The dismantle of the pipeline from Alaska. The holt on new drilling contracts. The fact that when we buy oil from another country, from the time it leaves that country, its sold multiple times making the price go up everytime before it ever hits our shores. They we have to refine it and ship it out of the states we refine it in making the price go up again. Next time crude oil prices is under 50 dollars a barrel, buy stock and wait till a democrat or environmental wacko gets into office forcing the price of oil over 90 dollars a barrel and sell😊
What are you talking about? www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=emm_epm0_pte_nus_dpg&f=m
That what happens when you intentially shut a country down and print a shit ton of currency
like everything else in America it is force inflation in prices and companies not paying more to go with their increased profits its that simple. ITs runaway capitalism .
Then replace them with A.I. shortly after
It’s just the beginning of the end
Inflation happened and then corporations figured out people would pay those prices and kept raising them.
BS. spend a little time with a calculator with a % key. The gas thing is your illeracy of world history.. I only wish to be blunt.
In the movie I robot Will Smith paid I believe it was $50 for a Budweiser🤔🤯
Yes, the youth of today can master anything that requires them sitting on their ass. Did you forget that the “old guys” are the ones that invented the lasers and tech used today?
Inexperienced contractors tend to lowball their value because they want the job. I've done it before. It's neither good for the contractor or the client.
As a homeowner, I've learned you have to research these things yourself and get an idea of what parts cost, tools, materials cost, labor cost, and specialized knowledge needed for the job, etc. Then you can decide if it's something you want to attempt yourself or farm out. Personally I don't like waking up to the smell of shit so I would probably pay to have you guys bring your Poop Sloop out and help me, if I had a septic system anyway.
One of the best episodes so far brother! God first and get back to doing what u love
Thank you brother
Super glad to see y’all back. Would y’all mind talking more on compaction with dirt and the common terms you use. As well as calculating how much dirt you need for a job vs compacted dirt or flex. This is something I’m kind of struggling with when doing bids.
We will definitely do that.
Thank you. This was very informative. I’ve taken notes from your video and will implement some of these items in my future contracts. Keep up the great work!
Man I miss this podcast. Please bring it back.
The emphasis on leadership and decision-making in this podcast is spot-on. It's not just about digging dirt; it's about leading your team to success. Excellent discussion!
@todd.westra Thank you for the support.
Great episode! Thank you guys!!
Thank you sir.
Yeah, no. Oral contracts are most definitely binding. Especially when certain requirements and conditions are met...
Why is this even a short?
"PromoSM"
Can I get clip cut of “kubota all around best skid steer” on my 2nd machine now and have had nothing but great work from kubota. As well as my dealer
You bet
Love the idea of the round table
They are Building Connected, AGTEK is a software for takeoffs and heavy JOB and heavy bid
What we’re those two bidding sites you mentioned in the beginning of the video
You guys are awesome. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. This is very helpful for me.
Great to hear! Let us know what else you would like to hear more about.
Big timer!
Researching it to death is the biggest issue. Maybe talk about starting sub companies in order to start a bigger business later on. For instance I started a dump trailer business hauling material for residential people. built that into a mini skid steer and dump trailer business. its a good way to not grow too fast and get in over your head right away. also a way to develop a customer base that doesn't cost a ton of money. 2 jobs a months pays the overhead and everything after that is profit, I can do 4-5 deliveries on every Saturday between 8am-noon. I think you guys skip the first 2-3 steps when talking about starting a business.
@cullencramer1 Thank you for the words of wisdom. We are trying to get the best info out to people. Thank you for your insight and we would love to hear more things you may want to add.
@@ongrade5384 I posted that comment before I was done with the whole podcast and you guys touched on that subject. This can be a tough business to get into, coming from someone who didn't grow up in it or have a mentor. I would love to have someone I can bounce quotes off of or talk to about projects, I just don't. Some ideas for getting started: are there any programs/apps that people can download or pay for that don't break the bank to start out with like Canva for creating ads. What about something like the Jobber app for invoices and quotes, a square card reader for accepting credit card payments. How are you tracking money coming in and out at the beginning? excel spreadsheet? when do you buy the big software? Tracking receipts for purchases and how to make those purchases. Setting up accounts at rental or gravel pit places can save you money and help you cash flow things easier. How to collect deposits for materials or machine rental so you cant get burnt. What's your home life like? can you sneak away 3-4 nights a week and do side work? Is your day job going to fire you or will they work around your schedule? How far are you from a gravel pit or a place to get material? Are they open on Saturdays so you can get work done? How are you making machine payments in the winter? Are you mechanical enough to know how to fix a machine and get it home or do you have to pay someone? Do you have an area at home to work on it? Is your home property capable of running a business? Enough room for trucks, trailers, equipment, can you store material there if needed? Sounds dumb but power washing equipment and keeping up on oil changes and stuff, it takes so much damn time. I never thought about how much time I would spend washing my truck and dump trailer to keep the salt off it or to look good when going to a potential new customer. I could make a list a mile long. These are all the problems I ran into and things I had to overcome. I didn't burn the boats in 2022 when I started but I jumped in with both feet and I've just been learning as I go. Really glad I found the podcast
We're glad to have you sir
but don't tell them keep that money too yourself ok that well hidden bread is not for them
the easier a machine is to service !! the more and better it is going to be serviced
We recently bought a battery operated grease gun, love it
Im sure there are times where thats a problem but something else generally would have to be wrong for that to cause oil dilution. Engine hours of any kind cause eventual wear. The air fuel mixture is way way lean in diesels when not under load if operating properly and that problem is largely prevented.....assuming you change your oil on a reasonable schedule accounting for a vastly larger run time per mile of driving
WOW ain't you special
Sounds like an engineering problem. Make an engine that doesnt do that.
Go electric.
This is B.S. Wouldn't be a problem if your changing the oil when it suppose to.
Reminds me of Pearl Harbor. Pennies raises, 0 promotions.
Unions get raises every year or you vote to put it in your pension fund atleast how mine works. And for blue-collar I make pretty damn good money. There's a catch though, you have to work it's physical work sometimes you're gone for 4 days a week maybe 5 and that's an issue for a lot more people than you would think😂
20% bullshit! 6% 8% is amazing 20% is in your dreams
I'm here now.
