    My small Caravan came with a Mover, I keep thinking about taking it off to save weight but then i have top store my Caravan in Storage and it would be impossible to get it in and out, Thing is people need to realize that having mover has nothing to do with being able to reverse or not, But very few Cars etc have the same amount of steering lock as a London Taxi and a Mover will do what No Car or Driver Can Do, Oh and by the way I have been reversing Trailers since the mid 70's as well as having a HGV Licence, So I think I know more than most, Now you have a Mover has nothing to do with your driving skill, It just means your smarter than most. Congrats on the Mover and the Caravan, Nice Rig, Major thumbs up.

      Thank you for your comments, very well put. Having movers fitted is nothing to do with driving skill. Having recently returned from our latest trip to Morocco and Europe ((czcams.com/video/t-vUrUVg7Go/video.html) on the majority of the sites we used it would have been impossible to pitch up without the movers, no matter how good your reversing skills are, there simply wasn't room.

    Although I love the idea of movers, I found that using a front hitch enables precise control with good visibility and eases the stress for my situation - which is tight parking spot along the house. The custom receiver fabrication/install was $500 but was integrated into the lower grill pretty nicely so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Of course when we get home I have to unhitch, turn around and re-hitch - but it removes all stress. Don't want to bash movers - they look soooo cooool - but the price is hefty so I thought I'd share what I do in case it helps someone.

    A motor mover is a tool that makes life easier. I always used to reverse my van onto the drive at home but when, last year, I got a bigger van, I had a moder motor mover attached. MUCH easier to get it up the drive than by reversing. Especially if there are vehicles parked outside in a way that prevents the tow car swinging out. Great when it's tight as you can move millimetre by millimetre. Also it's possible to operate on your own, walking around the van if needed to check positions etc. I live on a road whete people drive up and down as if it were a through road (though traffic signs tell drivers it is NOT to be used for that purpose). To go up the drive I have to reverse uphill, then take a right hand turn into the drive, which is also sloped uphill. With the motor mover - no issue at all. I can also reverse up the caravan's ramp when standing by the side of the ramp rather than looking back from the driver's seat.

    • @caravantravels
      @caravantravels Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, as my boss (wife) said to me - lets make life easier. Less stress when getting the caravan out, less stress when pitching up, less stress when getting back home. Some people will boast that they can reverse their caravan and don't need movers. Well good for them! However, there are plenty of times, particularly in Europe where the access is tight, especially for a twin axle like ours, and you can't reverse the caravan in. Thanks for your comment.

    The other plus is being able to have van go into pitch front ways for view or to have door facing other way. I fitted mine because of tight access to carpad at home but found them more useful on site than expected. No heated discussions with other half while reversing. Reversing onto pitches at night is big plus. Levelling, easy to fine tune. The only downside to movers is extra weight is big payload hit and price which you may get back when selling. One other plus is being able to do a Uturn when going down deadend road. Not happen yet but can see it happening one day.

    Our set of awning is almost the same as yours, when we met you at Alnwick we used an Isabella minor, have an Isabella Magnum for longer stays & a 340 Isabella sun canopy which we used for or three week stint in France. Found most continental caravaners in hotter parts seem only to use sun canopies, it was only the Brits that put up full awnings then surrounded them with wind breaks, we like our privacy 😄😄😄

    Even when movers are not 'essential', they are convenient and arguably safer than reversing into a tight space you cant see. I wouldn't be without mine 👍

      @caravantravels Před 11 měsíci

    I have found you can’t do without movers, we need them to park up at home on the drive & only on a couple of sites (usually a CL when space is not a problem) I’ve had to use them every time. I recall with amusement that when the Part One Test was being introduced, we laid out the cones and the AMIs rode the seven exercises ... none of them passed first time! Salaam Alykum, Labas? I'm really sorry that you feel like this. We absolutely loved Morocco and plan to return in 2022. I have been encouraging other people with caravans here in the UK to visit Morocco. We loved the people and the places and can't wait to get back. It was not my intention to show Morocco in a poor light - the opposite in fact. Morocco is different from the UK, which is exactly why we wanted to visit and we were not disappointed. I have written a book about our Moroccan adventure and some of the money from the sales has been donated to a Moroccan charity. The book also contains a guide on how to take your caravan to Morocco. Morocco is so much more than the beautiful scenery. The people, the culture and the history make Morocco a wonderful place to visit. Remember that we were independent travelers, exploring on our own, we were not on a package tour only visiting the tourist sites. We explored and tried to find the real heart of Morocco and we loved it and respected the country and the people. Bessalama.

      Hello Emma, Len (Mister) was truly a living legend and I'm proud to be able to say that I knew him. I used to organise the motorcycle cavalcade that opened the International Motorcycle Show (now Motorcycle Live) at the NEC (to this day I still work for the organisers). In 2000 I was contacted by the producers of 'This is Your Life'. I was sworn to secrecy and they told me that they were planning an episode about Len's life, and they wanted to have him at the front of the motorcycle cavalcade and as we arrived at the NEC. Michael Aspel would emerge from the pack of journalists with the 'Red Book'. The cavalcade marshals were all in on the act and kept an eye on Len and his escort during the ride through Birmingham. When we arrived at the NEC the cavalcade was halted and Len and escort were put in position at the front. We started off again and shortly arrived with Len leading the cavalcade. The 'trap' was sprung and Michael Aspel emerged from the throng of journalists and presented Len with the book. It was a great event and was in fact the last time we did the motorcycle cavalcade to start the Motorcycle Show. It was a fitting end to have such a great name in the history of motorcycling lead the final cavalcade.

      @@caravantravels It’s a fair old clip from Inversnecky to Morocco, pulling a caravan as large as that. At the start I couldn’t work out why Morocco? then I seen the KTM’s and it clicked lol. it’s no mean feat, and I enjoyed the reportage. I’ve driven all over Europe on bikes, trucks, busses and cars. I can’t quite embrace towing a caravan though, we stay local less than 100 miles and I plan ahead I just can’t seem to take to it..... I do appreciate watching the Long range tourers👍

    buddy... if you'd stayed on the motorway till the next exit (assuming you're coming in from Tangiers), the camping is less than a kilometre away :-) and you could have avoided driving through the entire craziness of the city, or the scenic route, depending on your perspective.

      Hello Nour, thanks for your comment. Yes, you are quite right, it was an 'interesting' journey through the city. When we left Kenitra to travel south we 'discovered' the easy route and will use that next time. I'll film the better route in so that other caravanners can see it. Thanks for pointing it out to me.
