It's things like this that that always catch Lex up. He pushed one step to far. If he had left things alone, Lena may have eventually come back around with Kara, but it wouldn't have been fast and it wouldn't have been in time to change his plans. But he couldn't leave well enough alone, he got them to fight again, which temporarily did increase the wedge, but it also increased doubt in both of them. Kara temporarily doubted Lena after the second confrontation in the fortress, but she even said it's way too convenient that Lena just happened to be there. Once Lena shows up at her apartment, she let's her in, if not for her confusion about the fortress, Kara may not have let her in, but i think she realized that may have been a set up from Lex. As for Lena, she was turning a blind eye to everything Lex was doing, she briefly helped him with Leviathan after Crisis, but after that, she chose to ignore whatever he was doing to pretend like he had changed so that she didn't have to face the fact that she chose wrong. But then the fortress scene happened and Kara informs Lena Lex is up to something. Even though she once again pushed Kara away and tells her off, the seed of doubt is there. The very next day Lena no longer seems to have blinders on. Lex stopped having his nice guy mask on, he seemed convinced he split them for good and starts talking about kryptonite dumplings and turning the sun red, but this time around, Lena doesn't brush it off as a joke, her looks as he speaks says she is watching and figuring things out. Sure enough, he slips, she doesn't hesitate and runs to Kara. If Lex hasn't set them up at the fortress to fight and try to take out Leviathan and Supergirl by giving Leviathan a weapon from the fortress, he may have won. Lena may not have run back to Kara and Kara may not have been willing to listen. But instead he sped up the time table and pushed to far. They both realized their argument was to convenient and questioned things

There is 1 conversation during 5x13 that never happened but should have and i think the show really missed an opportunity by not having it. In 5x13 Kara needed another perspective so she chose a time frame where Mon El existed and her talking to him about what was going on to get his opinion. They should have had Kara choose a time frame where Lena would have listened and Kara could have told her weekday was happening. Who better to give advice about how to handle Lena than Lena. Imagine that convo, Kara tells Lena what's happening in real life, how they hurt each other. Lena tears in her eyes listens to all the ways she hurt Kara and vice versa looks deep into Kara's eyes and tells her "as long as you keep trying, I'll keep pushing you away" Kara blinks, confused, says "I'll never give up on you Lena, i promised to always be they're and i will". A soft smile comes over Lena as she grasps Kara’s hand, "i could never handle you thinking I'm a lost cause, I'll always try and prove you wrong. I'm not asking you to give up on me, I'm asking you to have faith that I'll always choose your side in the end". Kara looks at her, swallows slowly "so what, in supposed to tell you the truth, that i can't trust you anymore because you are so lost you see Lex as an ally? " Lena gets a smirk "Kara, if i chose Lex, it's because i know beyond any doubt that what I'm doing is wrong and o don't care what he thinks. I'll always care about what you think, It's why i most likely am keeping you away, shame makes me isolate ". Imagine if that conversation took place. It would still fit the show, keep it platonic, but add so many layers to what is happening.

The entire time Lena was manipulating Kara, Katie made the acting choice to show doubt. Lena hated doing it, every bad choice she made she hated it. Whenever she made Kara smile she felt horrible knowing it was a lie. I always felt like Lena convinced herself she was just venting. I think Lena fully intended on fixing things and thought Kara would be there when she finally calmed down. 5x13 crushed her, actual tears in her eyes when Kara told her she could no longer turn a blind eye and that she would actively pursue stopping Lena. I think Lena doubled down not out of anger, but desperation to prove to Kara she wasn't evil. If she could make her plan succeed, then she could fix things with her head held high and show Kara she never turned bad. Unfortunately Lex showed her that the moment she shook his hand, she went villain.

The writers wanted to make the fight between them huge and dramatic, so they spent 4 seasons getting Kara and lena very close, Melissa said this recently. Melissa also said they knew from the start of season 3 that what happened in the fortress was going to happen. So since season 3 they set up the fued, but they screwed up. They made Lena look downright petty because she was willing to ignore all the times she was saved and pretend like it was manipulation. They shouldn't have key Kara protect Lena so often, the fallout only made Lena look dumb

Whenever Kara was unable to work with Alex or Lena for extended periods of time, anyone ever notice how she gets when she's finally able to work along side one or both of them again? This was most evident in season 4, but Melissa does such a good job at literally bouncing with happy energy when she gets to work with them again.

It was clear what Katie wanted for Lena's character. The acting choices she made during season 5 made her opinion clear. I read that her and Melissa were very very against how long the feud lasted. Katie did everything she could on screen to show that Lena didn't like the choices she made. Katie made sure to show the fans that Lena was never all in with Lex and was unsure of the choices she made. This wad important, cause fans were turning on Lena, which is why Melissa made sure to also show that Kara was not perfect, Melissa had said last year that she felt if season 5 was handled better, they would have had a season 7.

I feel like the show dragged out the fight between Lena and Kara to long, Lena would have forgiven Kara sooner honestly. Even after Kara called her a villain, Lena was determined not to hurt Kara, but price to Kara she was still good. She truly waited Kara to see that she was good and I think in her mind of she could make her project work, she would get Kara's respect back. It's why 5x17 was a mistake by the writers in my opinion. It was unnecessary angst. Lena cared, she cared so much that she needed to prove to Kara that she was good, she even refused to leave until Kara stopped using Myriad, almost as if she was trying to keep Kara from going down a dark path. I think the show should never have had that scene

The show messed up in a major way. Lena had to much of a heart to ignore the signs of Kara caring.

The show missed a huge opportunity with the mind wipe. Kara was basically alone without Alex. They should have seen this as a chance to allow the other important human in Kara's life to protect her. This should have been the season where Lena Luthor becomes Kara's protection

Even when Kara was at her angriest and telling Lena off, like she deserved, she did something Lena failed to do. Kara acknowledged that Lena was sorry, even though that wasn't enough at the moment, she was willing to let Lena know that she believed she was sorry. Lena never gave Kara that relief, Lena told Kara it was crocodile tears and that she was only sorry she got caught. Even after crisis, Lena refused to acknowledge Kara was sorry.

Lena broke the way she did because the things she was hiding were brought to the surface and not just her denial of who Supergirl was. I'm not saying the show was implying Lena realized she was gay, but they were implying Lena cared for Kara in a way that went beyond friendship. Lena's pain was that she thought Kara didn't care as much as she did. Then Kara did her own speech and Lena realized that Kara was in as much denial as she had been. Season 6 is kind of proof of my theory. Season 6 was primarily Lena helping Kara except herself for who she is. Now this can be taken multiple ways and that was intentionally done by writers who weren't aloud to make them blatantly Canon, so instead they used double meaning on almost everything in season 6. Lena knew before Kara how she felt, that was clear by how different Lena became after she realized how she felt. The rest of the time was her patiently helping Kara come to terms with her own feelings and you can see Kara slowly except these things. Denial can be very very powerful. But if you look, Lena had slowly taken Alex's place in Kara's life and even Alex herself noticed this. You can't tell me Alex would feel okay in letting just a friend take her role in Kara's life. I broke a friendship once because they lied, it was tough but needed. Here's what I didn't do, cry about my decision for days, lie to myself that it didn't matter, get angry every time I was reminded of them, actively seek revenge, or change my overall outlook on life because of how hurt I was, it was just a lost friendship, it hurt, but wasn't the end of the world. Do you know what I did do all those things for? A lost relationship. When my actions cost me the love of my life, I reacted just like Lena. So are we to believe Lena saw her friendship as dear to her as a romantic partner? I think not.
