    Nice video. However, using a Munter hitch on an aluminum carabiner has the potential to overheat the carabiner to the point of failure. Especially if you happen to use a braided rope such as Tech-12 or Amsteel. Steel carabiners should ALWAYS be used in a rescue or recovery in my opinion. Disagree? Let me know why.

    • @dunklezwiebel
      @dunklezwiebel Před rokem

      Do you have a nice source for that or some accident reports? While aluminium heats up faster because it has a lower mass, it also conducts heat faster and will cool more rapidly.

    • @OmmerSyssel
      @OmmerSyssel Před rokem

      Steel biners simply aren't part of ordinary climbers equipment.. Next to that, aluminium cools as fast as it might heat. It's not a race party anyways

      Not really an issue, been climbing with loads of climbers using HMS they're whole life, and no ropes showed any noticeable issues. Use it myself with no specific problems. It's very important to be familiar with, when technical safety device is lost! Ask me how I know ... Fellow climbers rejected HMS until they both lost their beloved fancy tech in snow storm 🤷🏼

      @@austinyun learn some knots, they'll definitely come in handy. The day you use one simple knot that you can untie again, it'll be worth it. Clove hitches are like magic, alpine butterfly, truckers hitch, prusiks, bowline are a few that could save your day or your life someday. It was worth learning to tie shoelaces, for example.
