The drz is a swiss army knife, it's more than capable tackling this desert single track. Exploring Prescott AZ Dirt Bike Trails

First part of the prescott az single track video. Started off checking out Alto Pit ohv and made our way up the mountain.. used to be more single track up and down the mountain, looks like someone cleared it out. Ran into a fast developing thunderstorm. I do not like to ride when there is lighting and it was close so fast pace down the mountain and made it to some single track.

2024 Drz400s First Ride!

First real ride on the ol' drz400, I added a full fmf powercore 4 and it really does transform the bike into a different animal. I also did the 3x3 airbox mod and I had my dealer install the dynojet kit (stage 2). This bike is so much fun to ride, hands down either best heavy dirt bike or light adventure bike lol. Best trail? Most rocky trail. Where is this at? Your bike is really nice. In the old days if you rode a two stroke like this you would foul a plug. It happened a lot to me. We ran the bikes with conventional oil and ran the mix richer. I never mixed oil leaner than 32 to 1 and I read the GasGas run at 60 to 1. My bikes never broke or left me stranded. Just talking.
@@ronwest7930 haha clickbait title but it was fun and most of the trails are like this in Arizona. Right about the 2 strokes, bikes are now fuel and oil injected.. you can still foul a plug but I have yet to and I have 120 hours on the bike. Thanks for watching 👍
This is near black canyon city, little pan staging area ohv and lake pleasant, we did a loop about 31 miles.
@@desertdrz7618 I've ridden the trail east of the New River exit. It was all rocky also. I've ridden an ORV area west of Lake Pleasant going towards Wickenburg. I liked the powerline roads between Pleasant and east past Scottsdale. Years ago there wasn't much there, wild horses.I would ride from North Phoenix to the Verde River and back and be on reserve fumes with a big desert tank. When they made the CAP canal it was empty and I would ride up and down the walls doing wheelies. I would ride to Canyon Raceway and watch the Sand drags. Your channel brings back good memories. For me, this was from about 1970 through 1985. Just a few years ago.
@@ronwest7930 That would've been pretty cool to see, quite a while before I was here haha. I didn't move out here until 2016 and I have already seen one riding area shut down near the 303. That was a fun spot to ride. I think the best spot is Wildcat out past cave creek on the way to Bartlett Lake if you don't like rocks its all super flowy sand, some good single track but you gotta watch out for the side by sides in the washes. Another fun spot is out near Four Peaks called The Rolls Ohv.
Nice mate! I picked up a 2024 DRZ-400e earlier this year.. here in New Zealand they can be road reg'd. Have a 2023 Yz250fx in the garage too. Great combo and love the DRZ!

Stock brakes off a DRZ400SM are easy to install, much more powerful. Beyond that, there are kits to install brembos too. Bring money for those though!

@@desertdrz7618 I think about it a lot. Sometimes it sounds like you need the RPMs up a bit. I'm guessing you're slipping the clutch a lot. That getting out of the wash was too much fun. That Blue wash canyon that comes out at the Verde. many years ago a family got stuck in the sand and they tried to walk out. they found their bodies one after another. I think the last one almost made it to someone's house. Some serious cactus beside the trails.
@@ronwest7930 As a fairly large person I need to use the clutch a ton to get up and out of things with the 250cc 2 stroke, the bike rips up top but it has very little torque down low, looking to get a 300 kit installed hopefully this fall. Sad to hear about the family.
My dad Desert raced in this area in 1970. With a Yamaha DT1. I liked blasting through Blue Wash to the Verde River. In the summer we rode there at night, It's strange at night with beady eyes in the bushes.

What difference do you think the dynojet kit made? Which stage kit did you fit?
@@ianpowell6443 I think any time you plan on “uncorking” a bike you need to tune the fuel system.. if it’s fuel injected you need an ecu tune, if it’s carbureted you need a jet kit. I have the dynojet stage 2 which is recommended if you change to a full exhaust, 3x3 air box mod. Basically you are allowing the bike to breathe better so you need more fuel so the bike isn’t running lean with the stock carb. Hope that helps. Also it’s good if you are running the bike between 2000-5000 feet elevation.

My DRz has been down for a week since I found out I bent the fan shaft and twisted the left radiator... It'll be back in action for this weekend. These bikes can conquer anything, from the slimy woods of the northeast to the deserts of the southwest 🤘

@@desertdrz7618 The day busted it, was around 95 degrees and 95% humidity with slime on everything. The trail system all slow, technical single track, the DRz only over heated once on a bad climb... I didn't realize I broke anything until the next day when I decided I was going to give the cooling system a quick check because of that over heat.

I bought my DRz to use as a dual-sport/light ADV bike. Its much different riding here in the northeast than you have in the desert. I quickly found out I didn't like the DRz for ADV, so I converted it into an enduro/trail bike. It does am amazing job(with the right setup) hanging in there with the Euro-Queen 2storkes

I’ve been meaning to get the drz out on some loops I take my gasgas ex250 2t on just to compare apples to oranges ha but I 💯 think the drz is an excellent do it all bike and in the right hands can tackle just about anything a 250 or even 300 2t can. @@desertdrz7618 There's a video on my channel with the mods I've done. But I'm still working on it and I've made changes since, like tires, a front mousse, IMS pegs and a better off-road bar setup. I'll make a follow up mods vid soon. My buds are blown away by what the DRz is capable of, I was actually surprised too. I rode a KTM 250XCw TPi before the DRz...I pretty much do the same tracks on the DRz as I did on the XCw.

Absolutely, I was contemplating a few other bikes but I rewatched some of my old videos and some recent vids from some other CZcamsrs and I just missed mine, I feel like I have a part of my soul back lol. Can’t wait to get out and ride! It’s a little toasty in Phoenix but monsoons have been nice, hopefully soon.

@@zokhrozzWoomzy It's a drz thing lol.. this bike has a lot going for it. It's super reliable, low maintenance, and you can mod it to perform like an older WR450F. The big reason was price, with how much things cost these days the low price tag and the mods is still less than a new 450 of any kind. I already have great bike for racing, I just wanted a fun trail bike that I've had experience with.

Had a 2020… some asshat ran a red light and took me out. 3 surgeries later and 2 years off work.. I think I’ll have a tough time with the wife if I even get a dirt only bike, but I’m going to anyways 😊
Sorry to hear that, it’s getting more dangerous riding street with all the idiots out there. Off road we need to be careful with the side by sides. Hope you’re able to get back on a bike man! I tried an Atv for a while and if I was in the Midwest I’d probably stay on a quad but here in AZ 2 wheels are king and generally safer.

I don't hate the stock pipe, and it's the only bike I own that still has a stock pipe. I was going to change it, and after almost a year of owning it, I kind of want more power, but I really enjoy the semi-stealth quality when i'm trespassing.

Where are you accessing that area? We rode that area 20 years ago, I always took my trials bike to the boulder area out there to play around.
Couple ways to get in but it’s right by the 303.
Nice riding man, slow rocky is my least favorite but always good practice! I have the same bike and the suspension is miserable in the chunky stuff, is yours stock?
Haha I actually like my suspension after messing around with the clickers I have my forks at ~145psi and set at 15 clicks for compression, in this rocky stuff I went back to 12 and it helped a lot! Rebound is set to 18 clicks out and I have my rear shock set to 12 clicks for high speed compression. I got a heavier rear shock for my weight (250lbs with gear on). We’ll have to meet up before it gets too hot!

I just own the gasgas ex250 2t. That’s my favorite but I do enjoy riding the crf250rx. I’m looking to pick up another drz again for longer easy dual sport rides.
