Really great to see even the oldies enjoying themselves and producing lovely music.
My late father was a "Seaforth" BSgt even so he bought me my pipes Thank you for keeping his regiment name alive ( no disrepect to 4Scots intended )
The chap at 33 seconds standing next to the Para has his plaid on upside down. It will never sit correctly over his shoulder that way round.
Excellent Lord Seaforth raised his Regiment in Elgin, Morayshire about four miles away from where I’m sitting. Cabar Feidh.
ปี่สก้อต คือปี่ที่ทหารโรมัน มายึดครองอังกฤษ....แล้วกลายยมาเป้นวัฒนธรรมสก้อตไป ช่างวิเศษนี่กระไร........
Superb band and excellent musicians
Wow! They will be in our village in Staffordshire on Sunday May 4th 2025 !! Sooo looking forward to it.

Oh..sounds like a Squeaky pully owner should look over and do Maintenance before trying to do burn outs
Filming in portrait is very silly. TV & cinema is traditionally in landscape. Can you imagine going to a Portrait Cinema? 😂
Nice motor…driver is a tit…into neutral then reverse and doesn’t know where the indicator is
😴😴😴😴
Looks like it's hanging off
He definitely smashed it, internally and externally 😂😂
Beautiful just Beautiful ❤❤❤❤

Great video to help anyone interested to understand what they’re getting involved with. I, like you, am a mature new piper and also started to learn just as lock down kicked in. I was already in a band and I was able to access my band tutor for some online lessons which helped tremendously as I was, again like you, starting to create my own fingering and the more I was doing the the harder it was to shake it off when the tutor gets a hold of you. I’m now a full playing member of the band and only in November I played a solo of Flowers Of The Forest as the wreaths were being laid at a local Remembrance Day service. I was very nervous at the prospect but when I got started it was a great feeling and knowing the the rest of the band were right behind me gave me some mental support. I did have a little experience of music and could read music, which helped, before starting the practice chanter but my biggest regret is that I didn’t start as a younger man, but at 60 I think I can enjoy many more years playing this amazing instrument.
Hi David, thanks for your very kind comments and glad to know it resonated well with you. Yes indeed a wondrous and fascinating instrument and so glad i’ve learnt to play these beasts 😂 all the best to you and happy piping - regards Kal
Cal, a very interesting account of your journey from the perspective of the mature learner with a solid background in other instruments. I have been playing for over 40 years since the age of 12 so I am ‘unconsciously competent’ to a pretty high level on the GHB but in recent years I have started learning other instruments and that has given me a much better understanding of what the learners I teach are going through. I think you have an advantage with your musical background in that you will have a good ear for tuning however your initial misunderstanding of the demands the GHB presents to a learner rings familiar, I have known a few very good musicians on other instruments who have been astounded how hard the required finger dexterity is and how unpredictable and variable the instrument is to manage. I think a recent study identified it as one of the most difficult instruments to play well! Of course anyone can eventually learn to make a continuous noise but producing a pleasing and impressive result is a very different thing! I’m interested to know if any Reed manipulation skills have been bought from your other wind instrument? Just a couple of points to clarify, complex embellishments are necessary to make a scale of just nine notes interesting, over time GHB music has developed the complexity of its music to something which is highly developed musically, this allows variety even in the same tune so I wouldn’t agree that their purpose is so that pipers can come together and play the same tune in unison, in fact even for basic tunes such as Scotland the Brave there are a number of different settings. The purpose of the embellishments is I believe to make a simple melody within a nine note scale more interesting and attractive. The other point is in relation to your Naill pipes, a superb instrument! Congratulations! You are of my own mind in aiming for the best instrument you can afford and Naill is right up there, however when in due course you do shake off the mortal coil please ensure your descendants don’t burn the wood and melt the silver! 😮 These pipes will have regained if not increased their value in line with inflation and will be sought after by players after you!
thanks for your detailed reply and agree with you. Clearly, there are various versions of the same tube as you say eg left flank and right flank of Scotland the Brave, and of course, this is a short synopsis otherwise would probably be an hour and 25 mins 😂 - it does help when knowing that we are all playing the left flank version etc and yes i agree, the embellishments do provide the ‘glue’ and ‘colour’ to the tune especially since there are no rests to provide the next platform of tune structure eg as you would when playing jazz on the sax. In terms of the reeds, well i just simply treat each instrument within its own respective field - ie no real correlation between a sax reed or trumpet mouthpiece to the reed (s) on the baggies and therefore i go to a completely different mental place for each instrument. As for the Naill’s too right - they are to be protected like the crown jewels - thanks again The Baron and delighted to receive your comment - all the best - Kal

As filmed in potato vision
I know there are signs up, but when it's a certain depth the road should be blocked by police. The fact locals are there waving people through just shows how sick and twisted they are, just so they can get some fame on here. Videos like this will soon get the road closed....or a kid will be killed, and then the joyous locals will be up in arms blaming the motorists.....who only go as the locals started filming it all.
