Rottweiler Puppy Play/Training Session!
Teaching a young Rottweiler through concepts learned from 2x IGP World Champion Ivan Balabanovs Training Without Conflict method of dog training. TWC uses play not only as a primary reinforcer for behaviors, but also as an outlet for genetically predisposed behaviors and as a relationship/authority building activity with massively positive and lasting effects on a dogs learning and behavior. In this session I focus on building Otis love for the game, creating some rules around the out command, and reinforcing some obedience commands along the way! Enjoy and comment questions below!

    I have two dogs that seem to feed off of each other when it comes to the whining and carrying on when I'm getting ready to leave the house or when I come home. Any suggestions on how to deal with two at one time? I guess what I'm saying is I could work with one and get them to a certain point but then when they're in the same room or house with the other one that's carrying on it's going to encourage the one that I've been working with to regress.

    I"m sorry, but a husky is a sledge dog... so they are literally bred to pull (and hard), it's their nature and they love doing it. Same for Alaskan Malamute, Samoyed,... It's like having a Greyhound or Whippet and not allowing it to run fast or having a guard dog and not wanting it to guard. People should stop buying dogs for how they look and then 'train' the breed out of them. Just buy a breed that has what one looks for as nature/breed characters that fits their lifestyle . That save a lot of trouble and makes for much happier dogs (and owners) in the end.

    • @chinookk9
      @chinookk9 Před měsícem

      @@katrienvh4289 I don’t disagree and I think concessions need to be made based on what the owner wants vs what the breed/dog is capable of. However I don’t think this means we can’t teach a husky to walk on a loose leash.

He loves to do obedience, etc., anything works, food, praise or a ball. 🤩 Besides working on a solid recall, what do you have planned to make his car chasing not rewarding or fun to do? Sounds like there's an overly dramatic Husky is meeting his death in the back, 🤣🤩.

    I really love how you used the bag of food to set the tone and it carried over to when the cat came in. I’m versed in ecollar- but not as an “aversive”. • @chinookk9
      @chinookk9 Před 2 měsíci

      Hello! If I didn’t have space to work on the initial behavior with some level of enthusiasm I would probably begin teaching in a more suitable space (think about creating the proper learning environment). Teaching behaviors like this through play can lead to some level of exhaustion, so during the session, or subsequent sessions the dog will choose to “take a break” and i can suggest they take that break on the bed or in a down, I can then add duration easily and I may change the reinforcement to food delivery, affection in place etc to teach them to relax in a more natural way.

    I think if you just add some food luring in the beginning of teaching the behavior with the same method it will be perfect

    • @chinookk9
      @chinookk9 Před 3 měsíci

      Do you think the learning would happen faster by adding a lure? What do you think would improve with a lure?

    • @Prodogtrainingae
      @Prodogtrainingae Před 3 měsíci

      Working with an adult dog obviously the movements can be more complex , and food luring can develop hunting instinct in the dog , it promotes body awareness and also develops speed and concentration ..

    • @chinookk9
      @chinookk9 Před 3 měsíci

      @@Prodogtrainingae I would argue that engaging the hunting instinct and luring while teaching the behavior would be detrimental to most of the things outlined aside from speed, which will negatively impact concentration and body mechanics as well if not balanced with focus and concentration on the actual task and not just focus on the reinforcer. Often luring comes with many unintended side effects such as sign tracking, frustration, and the need to eventually fade the lure which can create conflict. I appreciate and respect your response and look forward to a reply!

    • @Prodogtrainingae
      @Prodogtrainingae Před 3 měsíci

      Remember that a high frequency of reinforcement decreases distractibility, stimuli that are too weak in fact immediately result in habituation, those that are sufficiently strong initially increase responsivenes and then decrease it , high levels of performance require an optimal level of activation (not too high nor too low) What will be missing in your method is latency : how much time elapses between a stimulus (example the verbal signal "sit") and a response (example: the dog sits). This is a key measure in dog training because in most exercises we want a latency close to zero. That’s why the importance of conducting a reward assessment to identify which will work as the best positive reinforcer for that individual subject. This means presenting pairs of food or toys to the dog and seeing which he prefers in the pair. You can later mix reward ,food and ball+ play which will create expectation - the only thing will create conflict in this situation is that prong-collar , the dog has no enough drive for the ball and while he is running after it he got some corrections from the leash Unintentionally which will decrease chasing speed , but i really appreciate how you really evaluating the behavior and you give more time for the dog to enjoy his achievements

    • @chinookk9
      @chinookk9 Před 3 měsíci

      @@Prodogtrainingae I would still disagree, think about it like learning a math problem Would you feel more comfortable learning the problem by having the problem presented, and the answer immediately given with no time to think through it? Or would learning be more effective with time for the learner to think and then gradually building the speed required to perform the problem? When teaching we are not looking for speed in the beginning, we want the dog to think and fully understand what we are asking of them before asking for speed, and with the right level of understanding and motivation the speed will come!

      @chinookk9 Před 5 měsíci

      We don’t condition the electric collar in the “typical” sense, no. Conditioning does of course happen in the process and that doesn’t mean we don’t use low levels/only use high levels, we just don’t pre condition it.

    • @chinookk9
      @chinookk9 Před 5 měsíci

      I think it’s a bit “smoke and mirrors” when people claim they aren’t using the electric collar in a corrective manner, at the end of the day it’s always a form of negative reinforcement based on the fact that it’s an aversive stimulus.

    @sophiem6040 Před 5 měsíci

    Per the quadrants of operant conditioning, “negative reinforcement” would mean to remove a stimulus to reinforce a desired behavior. (I.e. only opening the crate when the dog stops whining) Using a shock collar is “positive punishment”; adding a stimulus to decrease an undesired behavior.

    • @chinookk9
      @chinookk9 Před 5 měsíci

      You are 100% wrong. The stimulus from the collar is removed thereby reinforcing the recall command. We are not stopping any behavior therefore it is not punishment. I strongly suggest further educating yourself on the quadrants of operant conditioning before commenting again.

      it's not so much about the level. Every dog has different sensitivity. Just look at your dog and how he responds to the stim. And not to forget is that ppl use higher numbers than normally when they are in an environment that is very distracting and has a lot of competing motivators for the dog. So just observe your dog and how it responds to a stim and work from then on. Don't just copy others ppl stim numbers.
