I dunno, I feel Otto, for all his faults, did try his best to mitigate this situation. Granted, he holds part of the blame for the Dance, but not alone, not by any measure. He misses Viserys, even despite their differences. They were friends, but now the new King is his grandson, making it quite the new relationship.

Those debating whether Otto was being genuine with his missing Viserys or not need to realize: Otto treats people as pieces on a chessboard. Otto may feel love for them but he will value them more based on how useful they are to him. He may have genuinely acknowledged and valued Viserys’ good qualities but he also used his weakness and illness to rule thru him. So now that Aegon can’t be controlled he finds himself feeling nostalgia for Viserys’ reign.

Aegon: "He made me king" Otto: "Hehehehehehe. Is that what you think?" OTTO KNEW THAT ALICENT WAS LYING NOT ONLY TO EVERYONE BUT EVEN HERSELF. This man is genuinely so cunning, perceptive and intelligent it's INCREDIBLE! The detail is so very subtle, but immensely powerful if you do happen to catch it. But it is proof of their treachery. Right off the tongue of the man himself.

The acting in this scene is brilliant. All actors deserve an award for this scene.

Here I think was a great showing of why Otto is NOT Tywin. Tywin would of most likely disagreed with the brutal tactic but not out of disgust but because it was crude, and would of still used it to its fullest; he also would of quickly and cruelty brought down Aegon's ego and reasserted himself. Otto is ambitious and willing to do bad things, but he isn't cruel or apathetic to cruelty, and is just as disgusted by the act itself as the damage it has done, he points out they were fathers and brothers. He played the game perfectly, but not him or really even Tywin could contend with sheer egoistical stupidity
