Could you please clarify your comment? There is no sales information in this program, only service. The intended audience is for those who are considering a career in automotive service, or are just starting out in their career.
Why do we have to take a recertification test? I have taken pretty much the same recert tests over and over since 1991, not much has changed. I understand it’s a money grab, but why not just charge a renewal fee and let us skip the redundant tests?
Thanks for your comments. If it were just a money grab, wouldn't that be even more the case with just charging a renewal fee? The original founders of ASE put recertification in place as a requirement because of technological changes. I'm not sure what tests you've taken since 1991, but the odds are you're referring to the truck tests since that's the webinar video that you made comment on. Clearly, systems like electronic throttle, 8-speed auto trans, and electric steering were not part of the test content back then, but it's been added to keep the tests current with the times. Of course, some tests have a higher technological curve than others, but all are monitored and managed with the same goal in mind.
Just recently took the T3 and found multiple questions about 4x4 vehicles. Yet, none of the T3 study material covers this subject, so of course I failed. Also, can we get rid of the questions that do not count for us or against us. Just give us the questions we need to answer, plain and simple
Everything covered on every ASE test is shown in the task list and content areas of the ASE study guides. If the study material you chose didn't provide information to match the task list, there may have been a better choice. To prepare thoroughly, you may need to seek information from several sources. ASE doesn't disclose which of the questions are samples for statistical research purposes. If it did, then the data on those questions would be skewed and unreliable. The only way to get good data is embed the other questions in the test. If a test taker knew they weren't being scored on a given question, it's possible that they would either ignore the question or not take it seriously.
What a pain to get adapted to the new cans, made me want to hunt down one of those can-taps that pokes a hole in the SIDE of the can, so that the interface didn't matter, but after walmart, o'reilly, autozone, and napa failed me, pep boys had a new style can-tap in stock that would connect to my manifold guage.

You can learn more about the Section 609 part of A/C service at www.asecampus.com. This credential is required to work on MVAC systems and to purchase refrigerant in containers 2 lbs. and larger. ASE also offers a Heating and Air Conditioning professional certification exam (A7). You can learn more about it at www.ase.com/tests. I'd suggest downloading the Auto Series preparation guide so you can see what's covered on the A7 test. Once you're aware of that, you can start down the path of preparation to bolster areas where your knowledge of skills may need improvement.

AS long as anyone can purchase and install this chemical in containers smaller than 2 LBs (available at walmart as well as any auto parts store) this is nothing more than a slap in the face for the professional automotive repair industry. a complete and total sham!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where I live it's illegal to sell it to someone without certification. It's a felony!
Good webinar just wished you could have show where to get the credential form from for the ones that missed the webinar and just watched it on youtube. Funny how the EPA only cares what we do as techs and not the auto manufacturers. The reason why that is that most auto manufactures have the condenser and ac lines located in the front of the vehicle and a rear end collision would possible release the freon from one vehicle. We have alot of crashes in the USA everyday. Other than heavy equipment the only light vehcile I can think is a Mag International (Chinese made) with a mid mounted condenser.

What's the benefit of taking epa 609 through ASE vs. taking it through EPAtest online
Both programs meet EPA Section 609 and give you the credentials needed to work on MVACs. The differences are subjective as to what's better about one versus another. ASE does provide information, such as the webinar you viewed, that goes beyond the credential by showing trends and developments in auto A/C technology.

It's against EPA regulations to replace the R-1234yf in your Cherokee with R-134a. It also constitutes emissions tampering, so stay with the refrigerant your Jeep came with.
Is that my car was hit and lost all of the 1234yf so everyone is go does not now about it so I was wondering if I can but 134a in it because all USA car have 134a I want to know if it will mest the car up on any way

Thanks for your question. We recommend one hour per module, so that means 5 hours for the entire program. And yes, you can certainly sign up for the G1 at the same time.
how long does this program usaully take, can i do this and also take the g1 test at the same time
+TheBassnator The program is self-paced, so how long it takes is up to you. There's no time restrictions whatsoever. Generally, we advise allowing about an hour per module, thus five hours for the program.This program is administered online, thus it has no connection to G1, which is given at ASE's network of proctored test centers.So, yes, you may take G1 at a test center and take this online, as one is not contingent with the other.
Sounds like a great program to get people started in their career. The video needs audio. I can read this on the website, I don't need a video scrolling text for me to read. Kind of a waste.

No, you don't need to get IAS first. It's a program that's intended for entry-level personnel, but not a prerequisite to ASE certification. After IAS, you may want to consider G1 certification, which is designed for Maintenance and Light Repair technicians.
