Home Assistant Control Panel For My Wall
I built a physical control panel for Home Assistant that features buttons, LEDs, and a touch screen. It's powered by two Raspberry Pi 3B+ boards and uses power over Ethernet. The panel monitors and controls lights, switches, electricity, water usage and more using the Home Assistant API. In this video you can see what it does, how it works and how it was built, along with an explanation of the software. All of the parts are readily available and the major ones are listed below in case you want to build a similar panel too!

nice project , but very overkill to use a rasp for the physical side of things , a arduino mega with 2/3 uno connected with serial for more I/O if needed would have been already a lot more than enough

I'm baffled. Wasn't "automation" invented so we didn't need control panels? Wasn't digital automation invented so we didn't need physical interfaces at all? Is the whole point of having "automation" to not NEED ANY controls? I fear you have spent quite a large portion of time walking and working yourself in a circle and ended up back where you started in a long roundabout way. I hope it was at least fun.

I love that it has safe mode so smart. I would love to tell kids no then set up a camera and see how long it takes them to try something. And put a alarm that goes off when they do just to scare them, like house self destruct sequence indicated.

Wow!! I've recently started down the Home Assistant rabbit hole. I've seen some impressive Home Assistant dashboards for tablets, but I like physical switches and buttons. I'm in the very early stages of learning to do a fraction of what you've done. I currently have an ESP32 module on a bread board with one button that turns a couple of lights on and off. I'll be expanding the prototype as soon as some additional supplies I ordered, including some better bread board buttons, arrive. My first control panel will probably just be a bank of toggle switches in a small project box on an end table next to my recliner.

That has to be the coolest thing I have seen yet. I was a programmer for Butler in a Box by Master Voice. It was a marval between 1984-2004 and is in the Smithsonian Institute.
