    This Lego yellow Device is a pneumatic actuator not hydraulic. You made a mistake in the video. Also since when does a delay in pneumatic mean we don’t have “precision” control?!

  • @YankeeinSC1
    @YankeeinSC1 Před 2 měsíci

    Considering Firgelli's product line 25 years after having built a gigantic aircraft hangar door using hydraulics. Still works like a charm with only one seal rebuild due to a minor annoying drip. Only this time it'll be a large (11' x 60") top hinged window overlooking a deck in a residential application using electrical linear actuators.

      Curious: why is it that compressible air has a delay and is not as precise as incompressible fluids?

      @@YankeeinSC1 no I’m asking why is it that it’s not as precise? I don’t understand why a delay would make it less precise! It’s just a delayed action.

    • @YankeeinSC1
      @YankeeinSC1 Před 8 dny

      @@MathCuriousity Probably a question better answered by Daniel Bernoulli, Robert Boyle, or Jean Léonard Marie Poiseuille, but I'll take a stab at it. First delay/latency/lag is less precise. In fluid systems, like simple car brakes, the desire, is to obtain brake friction nearly instantaneously with pedal application. In that same example, if we used air, we might find that as the air in the system, but particularly in the cylinder that was used to apply the brake heats up due to friction, braking pressure would therefore increase (Boyle's law), perhaps undesirably. Atmospheric influences outside of an air system might cause metered air volumes and pressures to change, something that simply wouldn't happen in a hydraulic fluid system. By the way, the actuators I've chosen for my huge 300 pound hinged window work quite well using electromechanical linear actuators. Thanks for asking.

      @MathCuriousity Před 7 dny

      @@YankeeinSC1 hey thanks for writing me! So doesn’t that prove I’m right? That it’s not delay itself that makes things imprecise? It’s outside factors on the pneumatic system? I just don’t see how a delay of an action (you pressing down) and the air actually causing An action, makes things less precise. Maybe you are saying because between the moment you pushed and the moment the air actually caused it’s action on the system, the environment could have changed?

    Trying to figure out how one would set this to function with an arduino. I'd want the box to control the sync of three hall sensor actuators, but the box would have to send positional data to the arduino to use different positional settings based on external sensor data.

    Good first step! At NASA we did not spend millions of dollars on the 1-TET, like the one here. Far less than that. We might have used $2M to develop our series of multi-TET prototypes, which included the study of several telescoping linear actuators, joints, wireless communications, and control strategies. It's an exciting architecture expected to scale to both smaller and larger mechanisms. Cheers!
