The Legend of Wise's Well - A South Mountain Mystery
John C. Breckinridge, a Democrat congressman and senator Kentucky and Vice President under James Buchanan, lived in the Peterson boarding house while serving in the House. Mary Todd was a cousin to John C. and had played together as children. Sometimes, the world is just too small.
I visited this place on July 4th it was so sad to see a place were a president has died
It is more likely than not that the glow was some sort of animal - bug, insect, nematode. It possibly ate the bacteria that created infection. There are several instances of leeches, bugs, worms, etc. providing help in some way via biological interaction. Master Gardeners frequently recommend dealing with a gardening issue using beneficial insects, for example Ladybugs eating aphids off of roses. Also antibiotics initially started as bread mold. It's entirely possible that the nematodes were beneficial.
I came across this looking for info on how artillery was used tactically in the civil war and being a Marylander noticed our awesome state flag in the background! Where in Maryland is this museum!?
Excellent video. I have visited Ford's Theatre and the Petersen Boardinghouse where Lincoln died many times. They are both such incredibly well preserved pieces of history. Thank you to all the NPS Rangers who do such a fantastic job keeping history alive!
For anyone visiting this place, be careful. I went out here with family a few years ago and we nearly got shanked by a homeless nut-job very close by. Be careful because they don’t do anything about criminals in the District.
Very good indeed. More on the French army would certainly be appreciated.
Well done! I read a great book about Clara Barton. A true American Hero in many ways!
Garrett is such a great storytelling park ranger
I can't imagine the horror that family saw. That they wanted to stay is insanity. Id give them the place and tell the family we are leaving. Hearing those screams of pain, seeing limbs thrown in piles, the smell of urine, feces, vomit...blood, seeing thousands of surgeries being done, broken men, dying men. That is some serious nightmare fuel
These are great videos we sometimes get wrapped up in the battles as a whole and I like videos that focus on individual places. Those numbers are real people and these are their stories
i thought Abraham Lincoln died at the white house?
I wonder if he survived the battle. Probably not but maybe he was a near a medical tent and got the bleeding stopped quickly enough
The museum and the battlefield are both worth a visit. Lots of good exhibits and information to help you learn about the role this area plays during the war.
THERE WAS NO CHANCE TO SAVE HIM. NO MATER WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DIE AND HE DID
How sad not to bd able to read cursive.
Did the Confederate military have any issues with supplying anesthetic late in the war due to the Union blockade? If so, did humanitarian organizations such as the American Red Cross fill the gap, or were remaining supplies rationed for senior military personnel?
Great information!
I love how everyone in the comments is so positive and supportive!
The audio is far too poor to tolerate for one hour. The video is also absolutely miserable to watch. This is a shame, because the lecture is undoubtedly excellent.
Absolutely marvelous. Cannot thank you enough. R. Henry, M.D., FACEP (Fellow, American College of Emergency Physicians)
A wonderful series. Thank you so much for the stories and the history of Civil War medicine.
APPRECIATE YOU JOHN HEISER!!! PLEASE give us more Heiser!!!!!!
I am interesting about what you talk. I ' am a french physician in a emergency room, and I am studying History of Medicine, particularly the improvement of médecine and chirurgy the field of War. My own great great father was physician in the Russians Imperial Navy in Odessa, my family is coming a part from Shitomir and a part from Simferopol, now one of the reason of war between Russia and Ukraine. In my point of view, both have rights, and it's hard to divide common roots. That's make me sad, thinking about all these young men death or injuries for the will of one , Putin...I think that something more peaceful would be the both nations wich have so many things in common. .
Go Cam. Waiting for you to get back on Addressing Gettysburg
Very Informative! Thank you!
John Wilkes Booth died like a dog after running and hiding for i believe almost two weeks, after gloating that it was he who murdered Lincoln he wasn't met with joy like he thought he would be. I don't care what side of the coin you fall on, to do what that scumbag did, to make a man and his wife and children suffer they way they did because of a fanatics actions, is beyond disgusting. We can only hope John Booth is in an unmarked grave
Major Rathbone suffered from PTSD for years and killed his future wife, Clara Harris
Very cool Thank you
That's the best way of comparing flavours - biscuit vs wine - I've seen for some time.
Russia loves America
Well done! Thank you!
Always great seeing and hearing Mr Motts speak.
Such interesting information! Thank you!
Lincoln never actually died or got shot, they found out about Booth plotting to kidnap him so they used a look alike and snuck Abraham out of the country and into hiding in Argentina!!!!
I mean the soldiers really needed it

Tip. While looking at the screen questions stop making that choo choo train sound. It's very annoying.
On a good note: I have been a modern Cavalryman for my entire Army career (30 years). Thank you saying it correctly. Cav-alry, not Cal-valry like so many.
Also, we don't need to see you
OMG, so boring. I was really interested, but it took almost took 8 minutes before you actually said anything. I'm out. Good luck to you.
OMG that is so creepy looking
Yeah John is one of my relatives. What’s crazy is I’m friends with a decendant of Lincoln. Go figure 🤗.
These videos are terrific, as is the museum. Thanks so much!
The rapid advance in treating gang green...wow! 😲
Thanks so much for these important lessons of our (local) history!
Where there any women surgeons? I know there where women soliders undercover
Simple grammer point. You want doctors who, not doctor's who. Plural verses possessive.
General Mansfield was mortally wounded by a bullet to his right chest in the East Woods very early in the morning fight on the 17th, dying of his wound the next day.
Actually, Oliver Wendell Holmes served as a captain in the 20th Massachusetts Infantry (Sedgwick's Division, 2nd Corps) and was wounded in the West Woods at Antietam. The whiskey story is usually attributed to the 51st Pennsylvania, who may have had the ration taken away during their time in North Carolina earlier that year.
