The Male Gayze #2
How men look at and see women is sometimes called "The Male Gaze" by academics and critics. How gay men look at and see men is what I think of "The Male Gayze."
Similar to our straight brother, we gay men tend to be a visual species. Unlike our straight brothers, we've learned to look but not necessarily touch. Or even get caught. Unless we want to be caught. That's a whole nothing subject...for a whole nother montage. Thanks for watching!

Seeing Queerly
zhlĂ©dnutĂ 28KPĆed 7 hodinami
Growing up a gay creative type, my eyes always had a mind of their own, finding objects of affection everywhere I looked. They told on me and got me in trouble more times than I care to remember. Now, old enough to know better, they still have a mind of their own. And I don't care anymore. If I'm looking, it's because whatever or whoever is worth looking at. Sorry...not sorry. I'm here, queer, ...

This photomontage is filled wth portraits and snapshots of men, the famous and the unknown, that brings a tear (or two) of joy to my eyes. Maybe you'll fall in love with a few of them too. Don't worry about not liking them all. Have you ever met anyone you agree with 100%? Orville Peck looks yummy.
Heâs a truly beautiful and talented man.
Ok just had to Google who Orville Peck was đ§
He was a multi-talented artist for his generation .So deep emotions when we admire his work .Rest in peace Thomas Eakins. Thanks for sharing this sensitive video.
Thank you for watching and sharing the kind words of support. đâïž
Woah, absolutely disgusting that you had a video removed. Thank you for uploading this series. My partner and I found an old black and white photo online of a gay couple from many decades ago that look just like us! As if any more proof were needed we were soulmates! Guy on the right at 01:16 also looks like my other half.
Well, I"m a cat nut, so "Four Cats" at 8:45 was my favorite. Also, I enjoy the range of music you select to pair with the art. You help me stretch a little and I appreciate that. Take care, DA
Sorry for ruining the mood, but the first picture is not a gay kiss. The two men were working on an electric pole, and one of them was electrocuted and hangs unconcious. The other on is trying to resuscitate him. Succesfully. It is a very famous picture.
No shit, Sherlock. Maybe read descriptions first. Iâm well aware. Itâs called the Kiss of Life. Stop mansplaining. Iâm not dumb. But your comment is.
I have seen samples of his photography before and I was impressed with his use of color in his paintings.
Very nice. But why Mozart? The style galant Classical Era surely doesnât compliment Eakinsâ almost-gritty American realism.
Thanks. And maybe cuz I like the contrast. Why such a hater? Be kind or rewind elsewhere.
From Tarzan to Sal Mineo to Elliot Gould??? Odd choices at best...
Ok. Im odd. Whatever.
I don't believe that the "Old Man" photo series is Walt Whitman. Unless it was when he was much thinner.
Ok. Looks like him to me, but weâll never know for sure.
Bravo. Great comilation! (Mudic: worthy!)
Thanks, Gregg!
Eakins has long been my favorite American painter. Nothing could be said which is hyperbole in describing his genius as an artist and as a man determined to travel his own path, the sensibilities of the public be damned. I can see he and Walt Whitman would have been kindred spirits.
Totally agreed. Uncle Walt and Nephew Thomas seem litle old friends, though I'm not sure exactly how long they knew each other. I do love the photos they made together. And the art Whitman's work inspired in Eakins. Thanks for watching!
Great choice of music. I love the Mozart violin sonata in E minor
Thanks. I got lucky. I don't know much about classical, but I really love the emotion of the tracks I selected.
Was his painting of men swimming used as an illustration for "Leaves of Grass"? I think it looks familiar.
My understanding is was inspired by Leaves Of Grass and led him to become friends with Whitman, who published MANY versions of Leaves Of Grass. So chances are it appeared in at least a few versions. It and The Wrestlers were the first two paintings I was aware of. Before, I only knew him to be a photographer.
Two of my last 3 paintings were standing male nudes.
You're a painter, eh? Or a collector? Apologies if I knew at one point. My memory sucks. :-)
@@CollidePress I paint, and my paintings sort of pile up once I run out of wall space. So, I'm also a collector. I occasionally gift someone a painting, when I think it will be well received.
Incredible talent.
What an important and beautiful video! I remember seeing his picture the swimming hole when I was in Jr. High school. It was quite the awakening moment. I am so impressed you found so many of these pictures. I hope that in the future you will do a video about Isabella Stewart Gardner's circle of gay friends. Thanks for making my day!
Thank you! What a great suggestion. Ms. Gardner was quite the woman. Also, if you'd like to see any of Eakins works up close and personal, the sites I used are linked in the description. His work means a lot to men personally so I'd love as many people as possible to know about it...and share it.
G'evening Clint, sad to say 'high art' leaves me cold but I did find his sailing boat and dogs studies were acceptable to me and I did watch the full presentation. Because the nude images are historic art you should be ok with the YT bots. A modern artists work I much admire is the UK's Beryl Cook, you might be aware of her. If not then google her work. Her work has a strong emotional hook in my consciousness due to a guy I was deeply in love with introducing me to her work. What we do when we are in love or lust đ€„ Enough of my maudlin chat, Cheers DougT đ«đŽ
No worries, Doug! Never feel like you have to watch ANYTHING that isn't your cup of tea. Honestly, I'm shocked anyone watched this one. It was for me, one I needed to make. For me. :-) As for Ms. Cook, I'm not familiar, but adding to my list to get familiar. Thank you.
Love the Mozart piano concerto selection........ đ
Thanks. I don't know much about music (truly) but I know what I like. And this worked for me. :-)
Not heard of Eakins before, so thanks. A great pity the images are constantly moving instead of presented as a still image so can be better appreciated and details studied. But thanks for the work to present them.
Glad you enjoyed his work. I just added links to where you can view all his work (for free) online. There's TONS I didn't include. As for the motion, it's both a style decision and helps a lot of people stay engaged with the work. Not ideal for "pure" appreciation, but most of Eakins works aren't on public view (his photos anyway...light being the enemy ironically to prints). Hope that helps!
I love the motion, it fits so well with the music. If I wanted to study the image a bit more, I just paused the video.
definitely not enough of! hows my breath?
Smells like teen spirit? :-)

Al Parker was SO hot!
He was. Heard he was super sweet too.
He adored the male body.
So do I...... đđđ
I think he loved ALL bodies. But he definitely focused on male nudity more.
Hurrah Eakins! You introduced this (once) young art student to the human male nude. So I wasn't the only one interested in it made the world of difference to me.
That's awesome! He was so ahead of his time. The few canvases I've seen in person are...MAGNIFICENT!
One of the great portrait artists in America. What a wonderful collection of his works â€đ
Thank you! I've been a big fan for a lonnnng time.
Excellent collection. I was unaware of his photography and sculpture. Thanks for presenting this.
Only recently became aware of his sculpture work. Photography was how I knew him first, but glad to know a bit more of his story.
Splendidissimo video!
Glad you enjoyed...thank you for watching!
Thanks for this excellent selection from the works of my favorite American artist. Well done !
Much appreciated. Added links to the description if youâd like to explore even more. đ

How do you get your photographs I have some great photos from the 1960s and 70s Beach photos motorboats fire Island black and white and color a lot of gorgeous men and they were all my friends

Jonathan Fred on fire Island! Barnabas Collins of âdark shadows.â
Iâve read it called the gayest show ever made. lol
This made me smile for the first time today. Thanks!
So glad! Your comment helped start my day with a smile too. âïžđ€đ
There is a line I heard from a stand-up comedian in reference to the California surfers: "These guys have nipples the size of pizzas!"
Several artists I know do call them pepperonis. lol
Thank You for that amazing bit of history! Sometimes it feels like every step forward is followed up by two steps back. Good to see Warhol and collaborators getting some credit for their role in bringing human rights issues to light even if in some punk and wayward ways. I hope you might be able to do another episode that focuses on German activist writer /director Rosa Von Praunheim. His long career suggests a tireless fighter who's inspired many artists and anyone with an interest in agit-prop cinema.
OoohâŠthanks for the recommendation. Not familiar with the name, but will look into it. Thanks for watching. đâïž
i totally get the goofball appeal! which is why i'm sure you showed Paul cross eyed at the end, lol!..as well as the larrikins of the Sex Pistols! though he was never the popular choice for teenage (girls) Beatles fans i think in many ways I preferred Ringo (even if he wasn't the genius song writer Paul and John were) for visual and attitude. His big nose and eyes were sexy to me and when he also grew a beard and mutton chops-woof!
never really thought of Paul MacCartney as cute...too "baby-faced" for me...but with furry chops I'm impressed!
Heâs a goofball which is always endearing to me. đ€đâïž
Yay! Jon Kung!
