    This is so sad. There is so much heresy, misinformation, misrepresentation of Revelation, bad science and accommodation to secular theories in Dr. Dan Kuebler's address that I do not know where to begin my critique. Let me start with two quotes. The first is from Roger Bacon (1214-1292), a noted scholar and Franciscan monk who contributed to developing the modern method for inductive investigation: "There are four principal stumbling blocks to comprehending truth, which hinder well-nigh every scholar: the example of frail and unworthy authority, long-established custom, the sense of the ignorant crowd, and the hiding of one's ignorance under the show of wisdom." (O.H. Taylor, Mediaeval Mind, ll London: The MacMillan Co., 1938 pp.524). He has summed up very well the reasons why so many people, and Dr. Dan Kuebler, are swept along with the crowd to believe in a theory as deficient in scientific validity as evolution. They wish to appease the roar of the modernist mob and receive scientific applause and approval in Caesar's court more than to adhere in fidelity to the faith handed down to us. Jan Hus is my second witness. His commitment to the truth was utterly uncompromising. His famous words appear along the base of the Jan Hus memorial statue in Prague: "Therefore faithful Christian, seek the truth, listen to the truth, learn the truth, love the truth, speak the truth, adhere to truth and defend truth to the death. For truth will set you free from sin, the Devil and the destruction of the soul, and ultimately from eternal death which is eternal separation from God’s grace and the joy of salvation." Had Dr. Kuebler been before Agrippa, instead of Agrippa saying, "Indeed Paul, you almost persuade me to become a Christian", the narrative might have been changed, with Paul saying to Agrippa, "Indeed Agrippa, you almost persuade me to become an Epicurean", or whatever Roman philosophy was in vogue during that season. If only we had such contenders for the faith now as we had in the time of the Apostles. Darwinism is a philosophy, not a science, and is antithetical to Revelation.

    I struggle so much with my faith. I left before 2000, and have had a strong desire to return in the last 5 months and have been attending Mass regularly. I’m a philosopher and psychotherapist by training, and find Kreeft’s arguments for the existence of heaven - by appeal to authority and other ways of fallacious thinking - woefully inadequate. I’m about to read Feser’s book (Five Arguments for the Existence of God) and hope it is more coherent.

    Dr Kreeft fits the Catholic definition of a wise man. He could not speak wisely had he personally not suffered. Happiness is not the English "happenstance." Rather, it is closer to the Greek, "eudaimonia," a good spirit. His mini lecture brilliantly expresses so much with so few words. I believe he meant to footnote Kierkegaard when he said, "Life is a mystery to be lived, not a problem to be solved." He asked the unsolvable, eternal questions of the Humanities, "Why do we fall in love?, "Why is music so powerfully beautiful?", "What is the meaning of suffering?, and "What happens when we die?"

    Dr Peter Kreeft what is your opinion about «Cornelio Fabro»?

    • @PaoloGasparini-ux2kp
      @PaoloGasparini-ux2kp Před rokem

      I'm sorry, I'm not Peter Kreeft. I'm only Italian, a Peter Kreeft's fan! In a memorable critical study, the great theologian of the last century, Father Cornelio Fabro, highlighted the idealist root of Karl Rahner's theology, disguised under a false interpretation of the metaphysical gnoseology of St. Thomas. Surprisingly, Fabro's study was not significantly supported within the Church. Rahner makes St. Thomas say exactly the opposite of what he actually teaches on this very delicate topic of knowledge, stating that Thomas "rejects the vulgar conception of the cognitive act as a bump against something, an intentional reaching outwards". He quotes without understanding it and in a truncated way an assertion by Thomas, who, speaking of the knowledge of the angel, quotes Plato for whom knowing takes place "through contact with the intelligible thing, and makes Thomas say that knowing does not take place in this way. In this way, the problem of knowing can be given two opposite solutions, one realist and one idealist. The realist realizes that he knows reality, and to explain this fact he develops the doctrine of the idea as a means of knowing and representing reality. Knowledge is true if the idea is adequate to reality. In idealism, the reverse occurs. Since for the idealist knowledge does not start from reality as for the realist, but starts from the idea of self-awareness, he finds himself having to explain how the intellect can pass from the idea to reality. He solves the problem by arguing that knowledge is true if reality is adequate to the idea, so he identifies the ideal with the real. But then does he create reality? The idealist will tell the realist that he too, and indeed better than him, grasps the real by the very fact that the real is ideal and the ideal is real, while the realist with his distinction between idea and reality would not be able to realize the identity of the subject with the necessary object of knowing. The realist replies that in knowing, there is only an intentional or representative identity between subject and object. To speak of an ontological identity is nonsense. It is not the stone that is in the soul, but the image of the stone.
