Mäkta impad! Vet inte om du nämnde det men hur mycket kunde du om klättring innan? Vi är två killar som skulle vilja göra samma tur men jag har mest koll på enkel trad och sport såklart samt firning. Vi är dock mkt vana vandrare!
kul! lycka tlll! har ju klättrat en del. men är ni 2 så kan ni ju säkra så borde inte vara ngt problem. Går bara lite långsamare på klättringarna men kan ju hjälpas åt på andra partier istället. hör av er om ni har ngra fler frågor. dock nu har de jun hittat ett nytt 2000m berg så blir lite längre tur...
Tja Niklas Jag funderar på hur du fick med dig slingorna vid firningarna. Satte du inte dem runt en sten/klippblock och firande ner? Hur långt rep hade du? Grymt jobbat och bra film
firade väldigt lite. ofta fanns slingor redan som kunde låna. Förlorae inte en enda slinga som tur är.

I realize the prayer flags are not litter and I respect the sherpas' beliefs. But I also believe that NOTHING should be left behind on a mountain that is not a part of nature. And really, if those flags had any power at all, there would be no fatalities, which clearly isn't the case.

First, attacking a person and not the argument is called a "straw man" argument. Look it up to see why your comment is irrelevant. Second, I never criticized anyone, your reading comprehension is lacking. Third, please learn how to form a complete thought and learn to spell. Fourth, I said it was easy in a technical sense when compared to other 8000m peaks. People typically die from exposure, and much more rarely from the technical aspect of climbing (especially true on standard routes).

Why do expeditions of professional mounaineers give up before they reach the summit? Even Sherpas who have done it all their lives still die on Everest. Easy? Whatever! @dhbiza If you knew anything about mountaineering, Everest is considered an easy peak to climb (technically). There are much more difficult peaks, including K2 and others. Just about anyone with enough money can summit Everest. Everest really isn't as big a deal as it used to be.
@hemming57 Most likely to be due to the topography and the distance between both the mountains. Just because they are are the same massif doesn't mean the higher should have the name, they are both mountains in their own right :)

And the summit itself is too small to actually stand on....touching it has always been considered enough. Similar to the tradition of stopping short (about 5 feet, I think) of the actual summit of Kangchenjunga...you reach those flags around the summit and you're good. Now if only the prayer flags on Cho Oyu were at the actual technical summit instead of a short distance away....
I dont know...I used to be in awe of these mountaineers, but now I see a women has climbed Everest. So what was the big deal?

*Whoops, Lhotse Shar is east of Lhotse, not north.
If a mountain is over a certain prominence above the col between it and another mountain (say Everest) then it is considered a mountain in it's own right. In the Himalayas I think it's more than 400m prominence. The South col that connects Everest and Lhotse is about 8000m, and Lhotse is about 8500m, while Everest is about 8800m. Lhotse Shar for example, a peak north of Lhotse but part of the same mass, is not above this range and is therefore considered a sub-peak of Lhotse.
Why isn't Lhotse considered the south summit of Everest?
@nissehannespersson and never will be done.. its suicide... the chances of avalanche, the extream snowfall and weather are just too dangereous...

@valkyrie1960s Lhotse middle was climbed by the Russians in 2001 (Eugeny Vinogradsky, Serguei Timofeev, Alexei Bolotov, Petr Kuznetsov) Search google for russianclimb lhotse middle first ascent
