A somewhat humorous story of playing with 4 bands on the bill at a fundraiser gig and the drummer in band 3 disappears. I was forced to fill in and then the unexpected happened..

Another funny story. 😂. 3 hours to set it up. That’s insane. What a moron. Lmao!!!
Not a single "bad" drummer on the list, but the order and names are debatable. I miss, for example, Simon Phillips, Alex Acuna and Gary Husband. Further artists such as Larry Mullen Jr, Peter Erskine and Jim Keltner. Unfortunately, the two most overrated drummers are also found as usual: Peart and Rich. But you can't have everything.
All amazing drummers you mentioned. But it’s not just drumming it’s more than that it’s how their drumming affected and motivated people. Inspiration and creativity are key. How many people picked up the sticks because of so and so. Love Larry Mullen but not a U2fan, lol
Drummers no matter how good get treated like temp employees, and are the first to be ignored….
Good video, thanks Tim! :)
Glad you liked it!!
Only your friends can betray you- you never trust an enemy.
Very true!
We all have our gig stories don’t we? I had some similar experiences as you mentioned.
Yup we do all have our gig stories!
I used to gig with a huge kit back in the day. nowadays I carry lightweight.
Yup, you get tired of carrying all that heavy gear around. I even switched to Yamaha’s super lightweight hardware as well!
Sad…..
Very!
Enjoying the stories. I should know, musicians having lived with them or as neighbor's. I have seen the drama with live actor's which is pretty crazy and familiar I am by few economic means rarely been rich enough going to pubs. Odd venues that serve light liquor beverages and or herb I am fine with. I have only really enjoyed music at the most impromptu venues, even weddings or a house party
Thanks very much
It makes me so happy to see that you have a 2nd rack tom. hehe. I am not joking. When this whole, 'you have to use a 4 piece to be cool', thing started, it bothered me..and it still does. I've seen guys even try to mount a 2nd rack tom in a way that it is almost hidden because they want it..but they don't want the hipsters in the crowd to look down on them. It is just like when you see a guy playing metal on a 4 piece with a double pedal and a freaking 4 piece. You know he probably has the freaking rims on the rack tom and floor tom triggered to sound like toms...but he wouldn't get caught using two bass drums and more than one rack tom. This bothers me THAT much. So when I see a guy using what he wants to use, it makes me happy.
Absolutely I always play min 2 rack Tom’s 1 floor sometimes 3 rack Tom’s 2 floors or combinations there in. I just use what the gig calls for! Thanks for the support.
That’s a gr8 story 3 1/2 hour set up time! Nightmare for sure, hope he learned his lesson.
Yeah I agree! Thanks very much
dude was so nervous he pooped his pants!
lol he might have..almost! 😅
Yes, disappointing to throw away long-term possibilities for a few quick bucks. Just admit it, pay it back, ask for forgiveness and save the good thing you got going. Maybe singer thought he earned it for getting the gig, and maybe the bass player thought having to pick-up and drop-off the PA was extra work he should be paid for…gas money etc? Fine! Just be up front about it from the start. Money such a bummer thing to break up about. Most long-lived big rock bands just agree early on to split everything equally; The Doors, Rush, U2… even Coldplay.
Yup and it sounds simple but for some people it’s not. I agree with your comment in its entirety! ☝️
I want the 6mo review too!
Great story. When people really need money, weird things can happen especially when drugs are involved. You didn't indicate if that was part of the reason, or child support, rent, divorce, lost day job, gambling, etc.
You are right. It was to pay a $40k outstanding tax bill to govt. I think I memorized that in the video but I didn’t mention the amount.
Enjoy your channel. Thanks for sharing your story
Thanks very much!
I had a guitar player try to switch my zildjans out for cambers.....he denied it. So when i left i took all his guitars. Yep. Here comes the phone call. He hand delivered them back to get his guitars back.
Haha wow that is an amazing story sad you had to go that far but hey it worked!☝️
Sounds great dude. Take is slow, give that hand some time to heal!!
Thanks and yes I agree! Not going to push it to hard
Glad to see you groovin’ again bro! Beautiful colour on your kit!👍🥁 Sad to hear of such band weasels in your stories! Maybe your intro theme song to your video should’ve been, 🎵🎶🎤”Won’t get fooled again!”lol Keep on keepin’ on Tim!✌️
Thanks so much. Yeah I love those Yamaha recording custom drums, top notch. I’ve played in hundreds of bands too many to count, lol some good some bad some really bad!! Haha yeah it’s true I learned my lesson, after that happened I ran 2 bands for a very long time so I had control over money and who was in the band. All the best thanks for your comment! 🤞☝️
Happy to see your hand is getting better and you’re playing again. I hate scammers.
Thanks man, much appreciated. I can’t play for long but everyday is getting better. My plan is to get back gigging by Dec/jan I hope 🤞
Same thing happened to me . I trusted people that I thought were my friends for years in 2 separate bands. Never saw a contract because I trusted them they knew the club owners and got paid in his office while we tore down the equipment and told us we got this much when in fact thay screwed us for money.
Ahh man that’s so brutal! Heartbreaking that they were making money more important than their friendship with you! I feel for you! Thanks for sharing you’re a brave soul!
The keyword to bandmates is trust, your a family in a band so guys be faithful, love ur stuff man stay safe man
Yes I agree! ☝️ it’s upsetting when those bonds are broken! Thanks very much 😎😎
Similar to what Brian Jones did in the Rolling Stone’s early days. Got bigger cut than the others
Right, I forgot about that. But was he doing it on the sly or did the band know?
Got beat twice, a two two beat!
Nope: sounds like 3 people got $150 and 1 person got $350!
Yes you are correct. I meant everyone was supposed to get $ 150 based on what we were told but because it was $800 not $600 one got $350!
@@drumteacher43 Oh yeah, sorry, I totally got you; I was just pissed that he did that and made a snarky comment! Not aimed at you! Really enjoy these stories. thanks!
@@mattosborne1366 no problem man I get it. Thanks for your comment. I was pissed too at the time. Glad you’re watching and enjoying!
I had the same problem when I had a band many years ago
Yup it’s certainly not limited to a small group of people!
@@drumteacher43 💋💝
Absolutely
There will always be those who will rip you off and scam you if given the opportunity
Very true! It’s hard to find people you can trust.
Yes, I enjoyed your playing at the beginning. Good drum sound. Thanks.
Thanks very much. 1 take, lol
Tim nice to see your swinging those sticks again! Really sucks getting screwed by friends and band mates!! I have had similar things happen by those you trust and allow into your personal life. I understand your anger and frustration, it's almost like you have to have a back ground check police check before you allow people into your life. To have it happen twice in one band group yikes that really sucked. Amazing that we come out the other side wiser and stronger. Keep Smiling Tim!
Thanks very much. Im thrilled to start doing some playing. That was listen once and then just do it one take, haha it turns out however it turns out. Like live! I agree, I teach in a very busy music school I had to have a police check and now it has to be done regularly on top of the initial check. It’s almost like you need some kind of check on people you bring into your life as you say!!
keep the anecdotes coming .... love em!
Have been a g2 coated guy but got sold on some hydraulics, fast switch back, just not for me
(Chris Jericho) originally from Winnipeg... Is the only rock band/Wrestler that I know of & he has a band called "Fozzy" & quite good Rock/metal... I even seen them open for Saxon in Toronto a few years back! ⚡🙂😉🎶🍁👍
I guessing this band never really did anything or went anywhere that I did the audition competition for. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Jericho. But it was quite a long time ago and memory fades….
Wow I can see how you were nervous in a strange sitting but to me so is Bars and clubs but I can say Jesus loves you and I recommend for you to some time read the Holy Bible it will open your eyes and mind God bless oh and I don’t believe in Scientology!
Nice. That cowbell groove at the end kinda reminded me of Neil Peart’s ride groove. Good stuff. Blessings, David
Thanks man!!
Was there a few times in the 80's. It's the ultimate drum candy store. If they didn't have it, you didn't need it.
Yes I agree! ☝️
I find it funny that you don't have any interest in "religion" but then says, "Thank God....." Typical.
It’s just a saying don’t take it any other way!
Great Great job brother
Thanks very much!
its sickening they have been dunb down big time todays nusic if that is what you call it is brain dead
Play some Rick's Licks...
Caught a guy walking out the back door of a bar i was gigging at when i was walking in and he had my cymbals in his hand. Didn't go well for him. My hands were a bit sore that night. Glad i showed up early. Bartender thought he was the drummer. Said he was going to clean his cymbals. He almost succeeded. I never left my cymbals at gigs overnight again.
Yup I never leave them either. Can’t say I ever caught someone red handed like you but man if they are there for the viewing chances of some idiot trying to lift them is very high!! I always take them with me if the drums are staying on stage. Always take your sticks too!!
Love your channel brother keep up the great videos
Thanks very much!! 😎
I thought you were going to say Tom or John were in the audience!!!
No they were not there. I think it would have been even scarier if either or both were there, lol 😂
You did right, Tim. I think any of us would have done the same. Family is family. Also, unless you're a clown, you should be not laughed at in your workplace. Cheers from Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Thanks family is family I agree and yes you don’t want to be laughed unless it’s intentional such as a clown or comedian etc. I was just teaching a student from Brazil so super cool you are also from there!! Samba time!!

"I'd like to start a religion. That's where the money is." "The only way you can control people is to lie to them." - Lafayette Ronald Hubbard
Yup I agree. All religions use it to control the masses!
To be fair just about all organized religions can be fairly pushy,Scientology is just the strangest.
Absolutely I agree. I stay clear of them all!
Sorry I fell asleep for a bit during that. I’m with you though about religion, it’s weaponised superstition bollox. All the best
I’ll have to get back to playing some drums soon to keep you awake!! Thanks 🙏
Ego- I've always had the Dunning-Krueger Effect. It doesn't matter how many compliments I get, I always hear my flaws. I suck! But I put on a confident face.
Yeah we are often our own harshest critics no doubt. I played on a girls studio pop debut she was really difficult but not on the band on herself and it was impossible to lay down her vocal or guitar part. I got paid but she never released the songs as she couldn’t lay her parts down to her liking!!
Went to see Joe Bonamassa with my wife a few years ago, when we left she said "the drummer was great" It was Bogie Bowles, great player, so I asked her what made him stand out as he isn't a mad shredder. She said he had a great sounding kit, the cymbals were crystal clear and he did only what was required for the song, and let Joe shine and the music speak for itself. Good advice for any player.
Absolutely! That’s your number 1 job and… if you always do that you will always be working! It’s how I survived as a musician as well.
First day of Mohawk College. I was 23 years old and 18 year old Mark McIntyre was sitting beside me in Mike Malone's class. Mark said to me that he needed to take a leak but ifandabutina- he's in college! I said to him "Hey! Nice pencil case! Can I see that?". I stood up as Mike was teaching, walked to the door and hucked his beloved pencil case all the down the F Wing hallway. Then I sat back down and told Mark you don't have to ask to go take a leak. It's not high school anymore! :)
lol I remember him! Great story!!
