Take the free Bust Out of Burnout Bingo Challenge: simplyconvivial.com/bingo
Why Hiring a Professional Organizer Won't Solve Your Clutter Problem
The video discusses the common idea of hiring a professional organizer to deal with overwhelming clutter and mess in your home. It explains why this approach often doesn't work long-term, emphasizing the importance of personal habits and attitudes over quick fixes. The speaker shares personal experiences with organizing systems and the realization that maintaining order requires ongoing effort. Instead of seeking an external solution, the speaker suggests small, manageable steps and introduces a free 'Bust Out of Burnout Bingo' card, aimed at helping viewers improve their homes and attitudes incrementally.

    This was so good! I’ve been thinking about joining your community for awhile now and after this video, my decision is solidified! In any of the workshops, do you discuss transitions? I continually have the issue of stopping and moving on to the next thing. It’s like when you get in a good groove and the kids are being amazing so you decide to keep going with whatever you’re doing. But then the rest of everything else is off track. It’s just a reoccurring issue for me and I’m wondering if you discuss this in any way? Also, I can’t get the CEODAY code to work. Does this mean it was for last Thursday?

    You obviously don't have ADHD if you can joke that, maybe you just need to write some things down... I don't disagree that our overuse of digital devices shortens our attention span and does cause ADHD symptoms in those that don't actually have it. But I dealt with enough shame and thinking there was something wrong with me prior to finding out I had ADHD that to have someone imply that maybe it's my fault and I just need to make a list, is super insulting.

    • @simplyconvivial
      @simplyconvivial Před 21 dnem

      You are correct: I don't have ADHD, but I do get the symptoms when I am on my phone too much and not writing things down. I often see women using a self-diagnosis of ADHD as an excuse - when they could make changes that solve their symptoms, but instead a diagnosis lets them off the hook for trying. Phone addiction looks just like ADHD, so it's something we should all take seriously. However, I also have many women in my community with legitimate ADHD diagnosis and the same techniques also help them handle life better. Laughing and joking and trying things is a healthier response than comparing yourself and feeling shame and staying stuck because you refuse to approach the situation and yourself with humor. Being offended is a choice. Even with ADHD, you are not stuck and you are not a victim. You just have to try different things and work with what you got, adjusting your expectations and approach. All 3 techniques I explain in this workshop have helped many women with ADHD in my community.

    • @KatrinaT
      @KatrinaT Před 21 dnem

      @@simplyconvivial There's absolutely work-arounds and resources that have been life changing but the difference now is that I know that when I fall apart, I know I am not a failure, I just have executive function difficulties. I can dust myself off and carry on, not get mired down in yet another failure. I think what bothered me is there may be others out there with actual ADHD and you implied that the problem is that they don't make a list. It's a lot more than that... It's not quite so trivial. There were too many years of thinking I just didn't try hard enough. I guess I did sound offended but I suppose that's because it felt like you were brushing off the struggles of ADHD. People with executive disorders definitely need systems. They help a lot but just because they are running around like a chicken with their head cut off doesn't mean they aren't trying. Just because you can walk, doesn't mean you can tell someone in a wheelchair to walk. I don't feel shame like I did before because I understand what ADHD is and how it affects me so that when I have difficulties I know it's not me as a whole person being a failure, it's part of how my brain works. And I am able to approach it with humor but that's not the same as trying to dismiss the validity of the isuue. Knowing I have ADHD has been empowering for me and I do appreciate the resources you are sharing and look forward to incorporating them. It just felt like you were minimizing what some people might be going through.

    Hey Mystie! Wasn't sure best way to contact you. I just received your book from Amazon! I had hoped to read it along with my husband. I am chronically sick with 5 kids and pregnant. Our biggest marriage struggle is that he expect me to run a house well no matter how sick I get or feel. Dishes mostly done, laundry not piling, bathrooms always cleaned, spills always cleaned quickly etc... I end up just plodding and doing what I think is the most important (dishes, food, school etc...) and a lot of other things get done later. Anyways, I was hoping your book would help lower his expectations and encourage me to do the little I can better. Would you suggest your book for that? I'm just concerned after persuing is that he will say "see, you can do it all" you just think you can't. But its not true. I am limited and its just the way it is in this season. Any thoughts?? Thanks so much!!

    • @simplyconvivial
      @simplyconvivial Před měsícem

      Hi Kaitlin - try reading the book yourself first and see what you think. It's more about changing your attitude and perspective than giving you tactics for "getting it all done." I will say that I think much marriage conflict over differing expectations happens because conversations quickly become too emotionally charged for any actual communication to take place. Neither person can receive input when defenses are up and emotions are high. What can you do to first put yourself on the same team as your husband instead of seeing him as an unreasonable taskmaster?

    • @simplyconvivial
      @simplyconvivial Před měsícem

      That's a good point. For a prayer habit, the seed we plant in the Humble Habits course is to have a one-line prayer to repeat as soon after you wake up as possible. The goal is to make it a default first act of the day. Obviously, that's not a full prayer routine, but it DOES prepare your mind and heart to pray more readily later. It starts your day in a prayerful tone, which makes a later prayer time easier to start.
