First Offering: The Michell Residence, Joseph O. Michell (1960)
First offering: The Michell Residence, Joseph O. Michell (1960). As the architect stood on the eastern slope of Rancho Palos Verdes, awestruck by the panoramic vistas of city skyline, bustling harbor, majestic mountains, vast ocean expanse, and sketch of coastline as far as the eye can see- he knew that he had found the ideal location to build a forever home for his growing family. That vision came to life as an extraordinary example of mid-century modernism- informed not only by his studies at the USC School of Architecture, but also by an ethos of innovation and resourcefulness. A dramatic ceiling hung fireplace at the center of the open plan living room is one such example of the architect's ingenuity; it was formed from a repurposed culvert pipe, made to float above a 360 degree hearth of terrazzo mixed with colorful local abalone shells. Interior and exterior spaces feel seamless, with expansive walls of glass embracing the adjacent gardens, patios, and kidney shaped pool as well as framing the breathtaking distant views. Living spaces are bathed in natural light as the sun's path traverses the sky. Remaining almost entirely intact as built, the home is filled with distinctive original details: exposed aggregate concrete floors, bouquet stone walls, mosaic tile, floating cabinetry, radiant heated floors, and more. Directly adjacent to the 4 bd/2ba main residence is a separate 1bd/1ba casita with its own side yard entrance, providing excellent privacy for guests and/or longer term family stays. Every corner of the home tells a story of a family's love and dedication over six decades; you can feel the echoes of laughter, shared meals, and cherished memories that have shaped this space into more than just a house-it stands as a living, breathing time capsule of a life well-lived.

The Killion Residence, Jean G. Killion AIA (1954). A project architect in the offices of Neutra & Alexander from 1952-54, she would likely have had a hand in the design of buildings that we today know well. If not for the nearly impassable barriers that women so often faced in the field of architecture, she may have been a household name. The home she designed and built for herself stands as te...

My dad had that exact same car when I was growing up. Probably worth 80-100k now
what kind of car is that? it's beautiful!
You didn't show the kitchen...?
:14
There’s a flash of it at the beginning. Not much to it. They didn’t do the Kitchen Stadium thing back in the day.
that Jag tho...
Home is so beautiful, in every detail.
gorgeous - does the car come with? :)
Amazing
Sick
neighbors on top of each other. imagine the noise and aggravation.
Heaven on Earth.
Awesome
Too many sliding shots
Absolutely, decrease by half, double the length. Perfect.
amazing place, nice video
The film exposes how difficult the site was. it explains what I perceived as negative aspects of the design were difficult but thought choices.
If you were trying to show the house in its best light, this is a fail. It couldn’t be more bland. The staging doesn’t suit the house at all, it makes it boring. The kitchen definitely is the best thing about it and it seems like that’s one of the only things still original in the house. And the pool is killer. Albert Frey was an excellent architect and this video does not do him or the house justice.
0:20 I hate that Roche-Bobois sectional...
Looks like it's furnished for a short term rental.
My Dream home🙏🏼
Nice house.
Fantastic home
Perfection, thanks for posting. The kitchen steals the show.
No soul
Needs a pool 😊
Nice
Gee guys- it’s a little dark…… perhaps if the external shots were filmed an hour or two prior?
I disagree. The darker shots bathed in lighting do much more of a service to showcasing this home than sunlight would
Rambling nonsense.
🤣
You’re a sad strange person
Absolutely stunning!
That's a lot of white paint.
The night shot of the pool is so good.
This house cost $230,000 in 1996. When it was built in 1954...may be $10,000. Crazy real-estate market in the California and the US! In fairness, my guess is that the owner probably paid over $200K in property tax alone since 1996 and spent $500K remodeling. Also $230K invested in S&P500 in 1996 will probably get you closed to $2 million by 2022. Happy selling! It's a beautiful home to live in! If I didn't have family and work obligations, I would consider this house!
sometimes Architecture is Art . . . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Kappe
@@markbement4750 Yes. Cookie cutter modern houses are not though..... My next house is going be at 30-40 years old.
best real estate video ever
Beautiful
I love these kind of houses but despise the overuse of white paint some owners use.
Nice remodeling. 1964? The decor needs to show a little more life to it. Another chromophobic interior.
Stunning still. !!!!
This is like the "comfort food" of homes. Mr. Corey's narrative's as unpretentious, organic and sublime as his stunning execution. Just Wow!
Love it. This is a typical house I saw growing up in Florida - cheap and easy to build. I never appreciated the simplicity and beauty of these houses then but I do not. Thanks for sharing.
I would love to have one of these one off custom homes. I grew up in Orange, CA that had a couple of neighborhoods with Eikler homes which weren’t one off, but they are a great representation of a mid-century modern home.
Amazing!
When can I move in?

Gorgeous, I wish I could find a home like this in my area,
