You pronounce the Dutch stuff very good and i am impressed. What a nice tour! You picked the best routes. Just go north of Amsterdam, then east to Friesland and Groningen and you'll have a fantastic bike holiday, i think.

Nice video. I've watched quite a few videos from Brits cycling in my small country: couples, whole families with their children and yes also single young men like you. Needless to say I'm very proud about our cycle infrastructure. Anyway these videos motivate me to join warmshowers as a host if it wasn´t that commercial. I think I join "vriendenopdefiets" even though there are quite a few hosts nearby already

Great route. Drenthe/ Dwingelerveld is a great choise. Also Gelderland/Veluwe is very nice. I like that you picked the routes away from car trafic. Also Kampen, where I live, is nice. Well done. I can recomend the weerribben out of season, otherwise it's to touristy. We also have a system called "Fietsknooppunt" It's a great way to find the better biking routes. Thanks.

Thanks for correctly naming our country! It is indeed the Netherlands and not Holland. If you like cycling, our country is ideal. Flat and bike lanes everywhere. You would probably get blown of the dyke riding a bike.

Nice video! I'm originally from UK, but now live in NL, and am always happy to see people enjoying cycling here. A couple of tips: 1. If you don't want to camp or pay a lot for accommodation, Vrienden op de Fiets is a good place to find cheap accommodation, a bit like AirB&B, but with a set price, and specifically for cyclists and walkers. (The web site is also in English.) 2. Not sure where to go? Try one or two of the LF routes, long distance cycle paths that follow scenic and interesting routes. My own favourite is the LF3 Hanzeroute, that takes you through all of the old Hanseatic cities along the river Ijssel - including Kampen, which I agree is a lovely place.

I'm living in Lelystad and I'm having 2 bikes: an old 14 speed road bike and a 8 speed Alfine tour bike for every day use. On my road bike I usually go like 25km/h, so I wear a helmet, which is custom in The Netherlands for that type of bike. A helmet in that case is not mandatory, but it is if you join organized cycling events. On the other bike my speed is about 20.5km/h average and then I don't wear a helmet. Usually I greet people when outside the city (situational: eye contact) and when people are walking on the path then I ring my bell well in advance, reduce speed and thank the people for making way: just normal politeness.

Kampen is a very old city. Part of the Hansaetic league, that spanned across Northern Europe and the baltics. Nowadays it is small, but back in the later part of the Middle Ages it was a major trade center.

The South of the country is also very beautiful 😉

Nice to see this through the eyes of a foreigner. Likewise I enjoyed my cycling in the English Lake District 55 odd years ago.

*Future me: Sorry for the TLDR. Love your attitude mate! It makes me happy to see you appreciate our bike culture! I never really understood that it was kind of special until I vacationed in the U.S. Dreadful city planning and a cyclist is more of a nuisance than a participant in traffic whereas here a cyclist and pedestrian are very uhm.. protected? I don't mean like police although that as well but traffic rules etc. Programmed traffic light crossings that will give a cyclist a green light ahead of a car on rainy days. Zebra crossings where you can just start crossing as a pedestrian safe in the knowledge that every (99.99%) car will give you right of way. And they're right to do so because cyclists and pedestrians are treated in our laws as vulnerable traffic which leans heavily towards punishing drivers even in situations where it's not entirely clear if the car was at fault most likely the vulnerable party will be given (Proverb: "Het voordeel van de twijfel geven") not sure, but courts will judge in favor of the vulnerable party in most cases. I need to stop typing. Sorry for the TLDidR if you got to here.

The Dutch don't care less about "biking" or bikes,... It's just the most practical thing to go on from A to B...

Glad you like the cycle paths we only got 35.000km of those , and i guess you noticed it is pretty windy here :) Ow and small remark. your sunglasses should be over the strap not under, it looks less cool but wen we you have a unlucky fall they can get tangled up in the strap. :)

Hi guy, glad you came and experienced our country. Bit of a shame you only saw the flat parts as our country (believe it or not) does have hills to offer. You've now see pretty much most of the traditional fishing and old Dutch northern style of living. Please next time around make sure to include provinces Gelderland and Limburg to your trip. Lots of history of WW2, forests , hills, and wonderful views. Flying to Eindhoven , do a nice trip and return from Maastricht should make things easier for you. Really enjoyed the video. Hope your bum is okay from the saddle haha. Looked like a pretty firm ride they lend you.

You need to try a leather BROOKS saddle.

This year is extremely wet. Snails are common, but we have a lot of them this year.
