We will be posting an episode when we can. We hope you enjoy this episode and stay tuned for more episodes.
In this video, we are lifting a 4 x 12 x 25’ beam using two material lifts.
Throughout the video we give some tips and at the end we go over the project with a walk-through and go over some of our construction methods used in this build.
We are adding a second story to a one story house.
If you are planning any kind of construction like this or remodeling your home and adding a second story, this is a great video for you to watch. Also check out some of our previous videos on this build.

    Just noting for folks looking to sheet their roof from other parts of the country, that this shows a method that is for exposed eaves (hotter climate zones) only. About using the higher price galvanized nails over non-galvanized. In theory what you say is true about rusting, but in practice are you ever going to have a leak for so long that the nail is going to completely rust away or even lose a small fraction of its ability to hold the sheeting? I don’t think so, and when the leak is fixed that whole sheet is coming off, along with the rusted nails, to be replaced, so in my view the galvanized nails are wasted $. My 2 cents is all.

    • @co-know-proconstructiontips
      @co-know-proconstructiontips Před dnem

      Totally make great and valid points. I do like to build things a little bit overkill and I have done a lot of insurance build back work on roofs that were built with non-galvanized nails had a lot of rust and repair needed due to water getting below the shingles for a long time, and if the nails were galvanized would have lasted longer, but yes, not really necessary but I still do it like that. Thanks for your two cents appreciate the feedback 👍

      lol you’re very correct but the rough opening wasn’t done wrong. There was some temporary two by fours up there to hold some plywood to have the opening temporary closed off. But they threw one too many nails in that temporary 2 x 4 that’s for sure should just been two nails halfway sunk, but instead there was like six fully nailed in. 🥴

      If it was your house then you would have a badass house. We are adding a second story to a 90 year old house. This video you commented on is us adding an under pad we underpinned to the existing foundation. During this process we noticed some of the old floor joists were crowned with big hips in them that caused the existing floor to have higher levels than the rest of the floor. So before we added our new subfloor plywood we hit the high spots with a skill saw Kerf technique then we smoothed out and leveled with a power planner. The final product is awesome level subfloor. Even though this section is going to be under the new washer closet we still wanted it level. Thanks for the lame comment lol
