Very well explained Ray,.. Not sure what the developers of wordpress themes were thinking.. Guess this is the future of coding or tinkering with free themes.. No likey at all.. but thanks for pointing me in the right direction.. bookmarketing in case I forget and need to come back here!
Is it a free site to install in WordPress.
Hello, thank you for the video ! please can we remove the title bloc from the pages ?
your explained really amazing
Very informative and enough to handle the new theam
Hello, thanks for your video. When I click "add new page" I am NOT presented with the pattern picker view. Yes I am on the 2024 theme.
I think the pattern picker is only for adding templates, not individual pages. But if you click the add block button and choose "see more blocks" or whatever that option is, you should get the patterns tab in the left menu.
Man oh man, was this a refreshing video (haven't seen the whole video yet), but I'm surprised it has so few likes. I've been managing almost all of the Digital Marketing in a small-medium business for over ten years now, with some gap years (75% Google, 15% Mailchimp, 8% Bing Ads/Microsoft Ads, and the a little Facebook, and LinkedIn work), but the last 2 years has been nightmarish, not withholding the impact of all new GDPR-rules (not a developer, or lawyer, but only self trained). I've seen so many changes since early days of Google Adwords, until now, and coped with them all (many not so liked, some very nice). Although our Google Ads account, is very large, and complex (due to our vast amount of durable products), it has, for the majority of these years, for the most part of the time been a bliss, and just positively challenging, to work with it. I known I've been on the right path, and statistics have supported that view (even though Google reps, Google accountants managers, etc) have been trying to make me give up all control (i.e. just give them the keys, and never look back "trust us, we got this")... but again, these last 2 years has been insane. So many changes, so many new bugs, so little (feels like zero) help for customer service, and I mean there is literally NO time for hours on end just to try to figure out simple stuff (there simply is not time for that in my shoes). Colleagues, who have done some work with me on Google before, just say, man I'm out, to much has change, I'm of no help. On top of that I'm unfortunately also struggling to get back to full time from an stress-related burnout some years ago (I actually attributed all my problems with Google on that, until last months, when it dawned on me that many do seem to have the same issues). Also, I think our competition isn't managing their Google accounts at all, but just threw the keys to Google, closed their eyes and hoped for the best, bc the click prizes has sky rocketed over the last year (much due to new commonly used, massively problematic bid strategies, employed). Then on top of that the economic crisis. So yea, we've/I've been forced to put the breaks on Google, on a whole new level, and put more resources into other channels (I'm less knowledgeable in), cause Google seem to be "broken", or something! Thanks for the video, and Greatest of Luck on your ventures, and the same to me! ;D Google is still a key player, so I sure hope they will come to there senses and be great again, or something. Otherwise they're screwed, and many companies with them, I think.
Not to tutor my own horn, but rather to add merit to the issue you're point out, by mentioning that I have been asked on multiple occasions to come work for a SEO agency on Google Ads, ever since I started to have some form of chatting/consulting meetings with one of their heads of PPC, just to get some extraneous perspectives, every now and then... so apparently I'm not a hopelessly lost Google Ads dinosaur, in that sense, so it truly appears my struggles are much due to things you refreshingly raise in this video. Anyhow, I'll have to stop complaining now, and get back to it, much to be done. GLHF! ;D
Yea, Google has made me feel the burnout hard. Some of the changes make a task that would have taken 2 minutes a 4 hour complex process trying to hunt down the info. I hate GA4. From a product standpoint, they botched the UI and options hard. It's so much different than UA. I think many of these changes are due to the privacy laws. I find it interesting how we have better tech than ever, but in my opinion the usability of the web is worse than previous years because of cookie notices, advanced UI's with too many features, etc.
Hi Ray, great vid but I have a question. Why did it automatically instal WordPress when you clicked the hatchling plan set up button. How does it know you want a Wordpress installation and not say Joomla or Drupal or whatever other website software could be installed. Thanks
Probably just based on popularity. WP is much bigger than those options!
Thanks for the guide!
Thank you SO much!
necessary for everyone
I started as just a hobby site builder, I do it for fun and my own sites, went from Front Page in the olden days to struggling with early WordPress, to Avada, to Thrive Themes, and I am dumping all my previous knowledge into Core Block building from now on. I want simplicity, I don't want to be married to the Themes anymore, I will be married to Core Blocks and will evolve with them. It's not perfect but it sure is getting there. One example of a frustrating experience was today, when I was trying to make a nice blog layout on a page using Query Loop and it would not appear on the dang page, until I figured out the little checkbox for "inherit query from template" was checked. Little things like that can burn a whole day for me sometimes, but in the end I am learning much better without all that crap on top of WordPress and enjoying the process MUCH MUCH more. I'm really looking forward to evolving with WordPress now, instead of it working against me.
My first client's original website was made with Frontpage back around 2007. I think if your site is more about content than look, it makes a lot of sense to simplify as you're doing. Yea, I ran into that checkbox thing, too. Sometimes their descriptions are too technical and not descriptive enough for the average user. That's really the motivation behind shifting to block design anyway. I am currently dealing with the burnout thing in a major way with Google, hence my last video. GA4 is non-stop deadends trying to find and visualize your website traffic.
I know how to develop both classic and block themes. And honestly I prefer block themes because for me it is very easy to develop🤣 Also easy to teach to non-tech person on how to update any content they needed. I agree with your cons tho. The update release is quite slow and not many customization can be done. It is more suitable for simple site. Sometimes I still use Gutenberg page builder, such as Greenshift, or Kadence.
Yea I went with block content almost immediate when that feature was released, but only have delved into creating themes with my tutorials. I still like Divi's customization options, so I stick with that. Funny enough, the first theme I used was made by the company that purchased Kadence a few years ago. That theme went obsolete and Kadence filled the gap for them once they stopped making themes. But at that point I'd already purchased Divi, haha. It all comes back to what you like... there are lots of good choices nowadays vs. the early WP days!
Siteground Migrator does not work if the site you want to transfer is in a staging folder. The migrator has no way to specify a path within the source domain. They don't tell you that.
Please need a help mentoship im new into programming please help me out
I sure hope so. So many huge negatives with Google: NEG: huge privacy concerns that they couldn't care less about NEG: constantly aborting projects (rumor: Flutter is the latest one) that they ONLY start in order to harvest data. When they feel they've gotten as much useful data as they have from usage of said project, they just cancel it. NEG: they try to monopolize everything, and as a result all they've done is reduce the quality of everything they get their hands on. CZcams S U C K S compared to what it was like years and years ago. Google has even tried preventing people from "downvoting" videos NEG: Google price gouges whenever possible. No way their "CZcams Premium" is worth that kind of price when they still allow ads anyway on videos. NEG: their Chrome browsers are awful, shoving ads in your face whenever possible, and top results are always for people who pay Google for the priorities.
Yup, agree with most of your points. I've seen nearly every CZcams creator I follow across every niche complain about lack of views and I find the same with my channel. Algorithm change wiped out suggested videos related to what your watching and pushes clickbaity stuff + personalization with who you follow. The CZcams search also sucks because every 5 videos or so they'll suggest a video that fits the description above which has nothing to do with what you searched. I think GA4 was largely in response to the way they collect data and they had to change because of the privacy laws, but sadly that has made the entire web more unusuable, i.e. getting a cookie notice or popup on all websites that want to comply with these regulations.
thanks
Love this. I hope they go down, not sure what could replace them although I spend more time talking to CoPilot than searching Google that's for sure! I noticed something at the beginning of your video that I have had a very personal experience with. I made the huge mistake of getting myself listed on Yelp because I thought it might help point people in my business's direction. Shortly after getting listed with them, I began receiving phone calls from their sales teams and I honestly didn't have time to talk to these people and didn't want to talk to them, but they just kept calling. This led me to proactively cancel my Yelp account. Well after that I discovered that not only am I still listed with Yelp but they have taken my place in the search results on both Bing and Google. On Bing I am no longer listed at all not even when you type in my web site address directly into the search box. I am currently trying to figure this mess out as I have noticed a lot less calls coming in. Anyway, I love your videos Turned into a core WordPress Gutenberg block guy now the simplicity is fantastic and I'm starting over.
Yes, I was a huge fanboy, and now I actively want them to lose market share because they are becoming too big to manage themselves. With ChatGPT, and every other company integrating AI, I do finally see a path to a competitor taking them over, or at least lessening the monopoly where they can do anything they want with no repercussions. So funny with Yelp... my client the other day just asked about signing up with them because they were offering the $500 ad credit. I told him that they will hound you with calls. That is literally every big company, too... Google's ad reps call me literally every single day and email me 2-3x per week about setting up a consultation with each account I manage. I already did a few of these, and the first 15 minutes is me explaining myself on our setup/goals, because they have no history of our interactions. The next 15 minutes is them talking about settings/features I've already explored. This is the part of being online that sucks... your info is out there and being harvested, so you cannot stop the salespeople!
The template didn't automatically show up when i try to make a new page, can someone help me pleaseee😭😭😭😭😭😭
I have the same problem. I just see the default text editor.
perfect video/delivery ... bravo
Great video. I have an issue with the footer logo. Why does my header logo change when I change the logo in the footer?
They are likely linked. It's designed that way so if you update your site logo, it'll update everywhere you've added it to your website. If you want to place a custom logo somewhere, you can use a plain image block.
@@RayDelVecchio Thank you :)
Thanks for the info. I use TextPad. It also is similar. One thing that it has that you didn't demonstrate with Notepad++, is a section on the left panel that you can set up with your own stuff. You click on a line and it will insert some code you use frequently. This way you don't have to find it somewhere else and retype it. You can also set it up so if you select some text, then click on the entree on the left, it can put in an open and close tag on each side of your selection. I don't know if TextPad can automaticallly put Tabs in for you (Pretty Print). It has a lot and I have been using it for a about 20 years. Even so, I don't know everything about TextPad. You should learn Regular Expressions. It is awesome for Searching and replacing. TextPad has that feature also. , \t, are Regular Expressions. But there is a lot more to it than that.
Funny you mention that because I have used regular expressions many times in the past, but that's the one thing that I haven't really learned the syntax vs. other code languages. It's a bit more confusing to my brain, and I only need it like 2-3x per year so it never sticks, haha.
Thank you for the video, do you have a pdf of the flow chart by chance to download?

This is great! thank you so much. I have a question regarding making a website that uses this theme multilingual. I'm trying to use Polylang but since this theme hides the menu options I'm confused on how to do it. Do you have any workaround or plugin that works with it?
That is something I've never dealt with (multilingual site), but there may be a way to create a custom menu. It's tough to say without knowing how your specific theme and/or plugins are interacting.
I am using a local host and the option to expand the picture in a new window is not available. Just so you know. Thanks for this wonderful tutorial.
Helpful, thanks
excellent walk through thank you!
How to make Wordpress Database work with write and read-only ?
This isn't working for me, but the only difference I can see is my style.css file has two things your example doesnt: 1) Text Domain: Brainstorm 2) Template: Brainstorming. So when I change these parts, my site breaks with a critical error. What can I do in this case?
This video is exactly what I was looking for to get started! Very well explained and just using the default WP features without any additional plugins. Big thumbs up 👍👍
Did you start?
Can you tell how I can edit my category layout page As it is showing posts in column and I want them in list format
Thank you. The video was very helpful.
Love your accent
Thank you for this brilliant tutorial! I'm just starting with the WordPress Twenty Twenty-Four theme and I'm looking for where to set the background image instead of the background color (like you showed in "Set your custom styles 06:39") but I can't find where I can set this. Do you know where or how to set the background image instead of the background color ?
what does the red/sometimes green vertical line on the left side of the screen mean?
Thanks for all the info. I'll use what you've offered and I enjoyed your presentation
Very interesting topic
Thanks for this informative tutorial. It is very well structured and shows how to work with an fse theme very well. It is also very commendable that you enable the assets to be downloaded.
Hi! Thanks for the video! I wanted to ask if you know how to change the website logo, I could put it at first... but now I'm trying to change it and I cannot find where to edit the logo. Thanks again!
Where do you add custom CSS site-wide? Where do you add header & footer scripts?
You talked about everything except the navigation menu. WordPress has changed all of this part, which used to be in Appearance and Menus; today, it's no longer there, and it's very difficult to find the section for adding new menus.
tnx
I'm just starting. I need to pick a domain name but im not sure if i can buy that anywhere online and be able to use that domain name on Etsy, Shopify, google. Its kindof confusing to me. I dont know if when i chose like google cloud for example to get my domain name, if i can use it to host my website once i get it finished.
I do not like Windows notepad. I love Notepad++. I use it every day. One of the main things I use it for is to mark-up what I am or should do during the day and for reminders.

Always happy to see you upload Ray! Hope everything is fine with you!
