DA says it refused to be ‘co-opted’ into Gauteng govt by ANC
The Democratic Alliance in Gauteng said it was impossible for it to be co-opted into government by the African National Congress, noting that the coalition parties are meant to be power sharing partners.
The leader of the DA in Gauteng Solly Msimanga explained that after robust negotiations with the ANC, they had decided to decline to take up seats on the ANC’s terms. The ANC wanted to give the DA three MEC positions but they declined, hoping for four.
Msimanga stated that negotiations were meant to be principle-based, as per the Statement of Intent that the ANC and the DA signed on a national level.
On Wednesday, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula said the ANC’s stance was to separate national negotiations and agreements from provincial ones.
GOOD Party says it did not vote for R200 Joburg Electricity Tariff
In the wake of the controversy surrounding the new electricity surcharge of R200 for prepaid customers in Johannesburg, the GOOD Party has slammed parties and organisations that accused it of voting for the tariff.
GOOD stressed its opposition to the surcharge and said it was not present during the Council budget vote as it had a vacancy following the firing of its former councillor Lloyd Phillips.
It hit back against ActionSA, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse and the Sowetan newspaper for “spreading false information”.
In a statement on Thursday, City of Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda said the new surcharge was a necessary intervention to create fairness and equality in the municipality’s tariff regime.
He also condemned “any attempt to sabotage this critical intervention” and likened it to an attempt to deliberately collapse the City’s infrastructure.
More than 136 000 displaced by spread of war in southeast Sudan
More than 136 000 people have fled Sudan's southeastern Sennar state since the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces began a series of attacks on towns, the United Nations said, the latest wave of displacement caused by Sudan's almost 15-month long war.
They join nearly 10-million people driven from their homes since war broke out between the RSF and the regular army. The war has sparked accusations of "ethnic cleansing" and warnings of famine, mainly in RSF-controlled areas across the country.
The RSF on June 24 began a campaign to seize the city of Sennar, a trading hub, but quickly turned to the smaller towns of Sinjah and al-Dinder, prompting an exodus of civilians from all three, mainly to neighbouring al-Gedaref and Blue Nile states.
The UN's International Organization for Migration said in a statement that since June 24, an estimated total of 136 130 people had been displaced in Sennar.

Very simplistic. I am not even interested in reading the book. The interview explains his approach. And settler colonialism? It just disappears just like that? The 'Blacks' have now created 'a history' since 1994 that is read outside of the forces that work against the emergence of the very idea of 'a state' of south africa, post-colonial and apartheid.

SA hasn't been more unstable. We need an honest debate regarding how we got to the current instability. The 2 parties who caused it, the governing party and the official opposition party, now partners in a GNU, now want to convince us somehow that they can save us. Utter bulldust.

  • @mandlenkosishabalala8890

Prof Raymond Sutner makes a valid point when he says Blacks in this country almost find themselves in the similar situation of the apartheid era. In 1994 apartheid was not eradicated in its entirety. It is against this background that the ANC proposed the National Democratic Revolution as a vehicle to completely eradicate apartheid. The National Democratic Revolution has not taken off the ground. Even if it were to take off the ground it would still be labeled as being in favor of Blacks just like the Affirmative Action and the Truth and Reconcilliation the former having been described by White counterparts as reversed discrimination and the latter having been described in the same vein as witch hunt. The feasible route to eradicate the remnants of apartheid in my opinion will be through National Dialogue as proposed by Former President Thabo Mbeki and as supported by President Cyril Ramaphosa. 😮

As a black person coming from the township and a village I firmly believe that Thabo Mbeki was on the right track and I think that his intellect was his greatest enemy and as a result of that he expected everyone to understand the politics of the ANC and the state the way he does, coming to the cadre deployment I mean no governing party can trust other parties in strategic positions for service delivery and therefore you needed people from your party that are multi skilled, efficient and competent, that is the kind of bureaucracy you need which Thabo Mbeki did. What matters to Mbeki was substance not sound bites, I'm told that from his own camp or faction nobody was interested in challenging the then deputy president and to save the face of the ANC and the black people in general he had to challenge him not as a result of being power hungry or corrupt . In fact the constitution of the ANC doesn't talk about two terms of serving in the organization. He was ahead of his colleagues,

Excellent statement of truth. SOBUKWE hived off the ANC because he discovered that the ANC was off the mark. The equating of the EUROPEANS with the BLACKS and creating parity between the two is GROSS. The ANC lacked strategy when it entered the 1994 SETTLEMENT. The NATIONAL PARTY dealt with MANDELA in isolation of the external wing of the ANC. The STELLENBOSCH MAFIA worked on the internal wing of the ANC and pushed its PROTEGES such as CYRIL RAMAPHOSA to the fore with NELSON MANDELA'S approval. The removal of Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki from their front positions as the negotiators in the CODESSA talks is an example. Oliver Tambo was already crippled and his decisions were thrown out. The NATIONAL PARTY and NELSON MANDELA'S choice for Vice President was CYRIL RAMAPHOSA. HENCE when the ANC pushed Thabo Mbeki instead CYRIL RAMAPHOSA left the scene altogether taken under the wings of his MASTERS who gave him money and a stake in their MINING sector to nurture him for the rainy day. Mantashe, Motlante were part of that mining conglomerate. See where they are today. Thabo Mbeki was himself never radical. He is a firm believer in Neoliberalism. His study of ECONOMICS in the UK convinced him that the BRITISH way was the path to go. He doesn't believe in the transformation of the SOUTH AFRICAN economy. He believes the nonsense that the market forces and "good governance" is the only and holy way to go. He differs with President Jacob Zuma on these matters. Still stuck to the regressive ANC FREEDOM CHARTER ideals even when the facts on the ground show all over the Western world the banality of NEOLIBERALISM. For this reason, and ironically, the ANC has been disproved as it now stands on the side of the RICH BILLIONAIRES against the poor. Hence the palpable ANGER of the people. The SACP is in bed with the ANC fighting on the side of CAPITAL. Evidently SOBUKWE stands VINDICATED today and we now know and understand why he was treated differently with a LAW designed just for him. The SOBUKWE clause has now been reeled against PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA for the same reason, to contain him and detract from the truth. The Judiciary and the MAIN STREAM MEDIA have been used to vilify ZUMA and destroy him in the eyes of the uninitiated because he has the might which trained against foreign CAPITAL has the ability to dislodge it and bring the poor people onto the table. CYRIL RAMAPHOSA is now out and out working harder for his MASTERS. THE ANC is at a difficult juncture and as the contradictions grow so does it's CLOUT and whatever credibility is left of it diminish. These elections will be a game changer. Hopefully.

I think this is a misrepresentation of the history of the ANC by Raymond Suttner. When the ANC was formed in 1912, it was portrayed as representing the African Parliament and it was destined to take a shape of a British parliament with two houses namely House of Lord's and House of Commons. Addressing the first delegates to the founding conference of the ANC on 8 January 1912; Pixley ka Isaka Seme said the following " Chief of the Royal Blood and Gentlemen of our race..." Right at the beginning it was envisaged that the ANC would end up being a Political Party in Parliament. Having taken strides of a Liberation Movement in its journey was historically vital.
