Sir, can i ask you some questions from Ilford? My grandfather showed me a photograph from 1941 with him with one year old and my great grand father. At the back of the photograph there was some words printed "Ilford". That means, using logic, the device that took the photo was from this company. So, is it possible that he only took this photo in London? 😅

Would Lewis Baltz's photos impress today's judges? I'm skeptical. He often faced discouragement and criticism from his teachers. Similarly, I question whether Luigi Ghirri's straightforward image quality would appeal to modern tastes, given his focus on content over meticulous image care, often outsourcing development to labs. Ghirri himself noted in lectures that people prioritize gadgets over the essence and message of photography. Moreover, I doubt Hilla and Becher's work would find favor today; many still struggle to appreciate their approach. Baltz once articulated that he sees the camera merely as a tool, arguing that his photographs should not be viewed in isolation. After all, what does winning a contest with a single photo really achieve?

I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my F100. I needed a camera that could keep up during family outings. They've grown tired of standing around as I fiddle with aperture, shutter speed, and focus. Just as I'm about to take the shot, I'd often hear a frustrated, "Come on!" It was definitely time for an upgrade to something quicker. But heraing some of the reviews, this might well become my main camera. BTW your videos are great and I particularly enjoyed your photos. Sometimes you come across great reviews but when you see their photos, they are just poorly composed, like mine.

I've been doing photography since 1987 (87-2004 with film and since 2004 digital) and have tried many cheap and simple cameras. The Symbol was one that I considered; they could be bought 'new' in the '90's but didn't get one. I think it was the one with the blue plastic that put me off ! Are the 'cloud' symbols the shutter speeds ?

I have a Lubitel 2. What is really special about the Lubitel is the Cooke triplet lens. Stop down to f5.6 and set the focus to 2 metres, with the background 6 metres away, and you have a superb portrait camera with the most amazing bokeh. Forget about sharp, with the Lubitel it becomes irrelevant.

One recommendation: when closing the film door, don't just push it down, but pull the door latch button down while closing. These things tend to break easily, and a shop that repaired mine recently recommended to close it that way instead.

Nick, I live in STIFFKEY. I have lived in North Norfolk for nearly all of my 74 years. The village of STIFFKEY is not pronounced Stewkey. The etymology is a derivation of the Old English word, Stiucai, (as named in the Doomsday Book 1086) Meaning Tree Stump Island. Stew-key refers to the blue/grey mud, formed from the Crettacceous Bedrock. The marsh is home to the World's Famous light blue coloured COCKLES, not CRABS, that live an inch or two under the surface of the mud. They are known as STEWKEY Blues. Thus, the village is STIFFKEY. The marsh and the cockles are Stewkey.

Wow, these films are surprisingly similar. More similar than I expected. There were passages I liked better (slightly) in each film. One area that stood out to me was the distant grayish foliage in the first image, kinda on the right. I felt the middle tones in the HP5 had more detail to my eye. And also in the same image the sky as rendered by HP5, while a bit grainy, had more tonal variations to add interest.
