New FMS T28 Maiden and motor mount and balance tweaks
Snagged a video of the maiden. As I was afraid the T28 was very nose heavy. I had to use full nose up trim to get level flight and did not get the nose high enough for a good landing. It's not possible to move the battery back without some major modifications. Also, after one landing the motor mount was loose. I cover both issues and solutions in this video.

FMS T28 - Quick assemble overview and some issues including a bad servo out of the box

I really like my big E-Flite 2 Meter T28, but it takes up a lot of transport space. So why not something a little smaller? After comparing the T28 E-Flite 1.2 and FMS 1.4 I ordered the FMS version. This video shows some of the assembly process and issues encountered. The only remotely serious problem was a defective servo that FMS is replacing. Speeking of inflatable tires.I have tried the inflatable tires from the xfly tasman on my Pat Tritle Super Cub. They are 5" inflatables. I take a little pressure out of them and they perform great! I will never go back to foam on my supercub. They make my landings so much smoother. I also get less nose-overs since they just run over everything because the low tire pressure allows the tire to "shape" to the object it is running over.. So maybe try the inflatable tires at a lower tire pressure? I´m sure they will bounce less.

    Early in the video you make note of the fact that Forward Programming is not available in any of the UMX models which matches my understanding. Then at 10:00 in the video, and you've just changed the Flight Mode switch assignment, you are magically able to go right into Forward Program to finish the Flight Modes setup. How'd ya do that? On viewing again I see that you switched from the UMX Conscendo to your Test Bed setup, but you didn't inform us viewers of that! So, though we can change the Safe/AS3X switch from A to B we still can't setup a Manual mode on a UMX because we can't get into Forward Programming, correct?

    Hi all, I'm finally getting around to getting the parts needed to put a spare in my '22 Accord Hybrid, and my local dealer told me they don't recommend doing this because they did this for others customers and the car "had problems afterward because of the weight of the spare." I'm planning to do a compact spare like they used to provide, and I'm curious if anyone else has run into this? It sounds like BS to me, but wanted feedback before i spend some money. Thanks!

      You are being mis-informed. Mine has been in the car for almost 50,000 miles. I have used it twice and had no issues with it being in there. I once had a DLG with this flaperon configuration. Worked great for hand landing. Now I got a 2m foam plane very similar to the conscendo and my first to-do was to set up flaperons also to be able to catch the plane by hand however, after some research I read in too many forums that this was a no-no, and the correct way is spoilerons (both ailerons up). I tend to believe flaperons should make it float more and lower the landing speed, but I am confused now. what are your thoughts on which is best to land it at slower speed while keeping it stable?

    • @GoofballFlyer
      @GoofballFlyer Před měsícem

    Just followed your footsteps again with both my AR637TA that came in my Conscendo Evo and a brand new AR637T that I bought for another model. Both receivers will not go any further than exact step you complete at 10:50 in the video. Tried both of them multiple times and when I click NEXT at screen that says "Make sure the model has been configured..." it just goes right back to the Gyro Setings screen with First Time Setup option. Could it have anything to do with the fact that I have it configured with the separate aileron wires and set up for flaperons/spoilerons exactly as you depicted in the previous video? Having the same problem with two receivers has me completely out of ideas. I'm using a new NX10SE if that matters. Scientific method tells me that my only choice is to remove the flaperon mods and put it back to stock, which I hate to do but I really need to get this plane back in service. Any other ideas appreciated.

    • @GoofballFlyer
      @GoofballFlyer Před měsícem

      Flaperons are not the issue. I have those setup and orientation works. Aileron settings have nothing to do with receiver orientation. The NX model should not matter. I actually learned how to do all this on the NX8 by watching videos that are based on the IX transmitters. I just finished a video explaining a few more steps you may need to to after a factory reset and will put that on the channel tomorrow. I use my Conscendo with its AT637TA in this video. Orientation setting is part of the process shown. Flaperons are working on mine. Try this: Power up the transmitter and model and go to Forward Programming > Gyro Settings > System Setup > Orientation If you can get to that point you can set orientation with the "level/nose down" method or set it manually. The Conscendo manual setting #3. That's upside down and ports facing aft. Upside down because receiver access is on the bottom of the aircraft and that let's you see the bind button and the receiver orange LED. Please let me know if that works or not. I would hate to be without my Conscendo, I feel your pain!

    I love how everyone that got the plane early and did a review on it started with...OMG Eflite listened to us and put inflatable tires on a plane! to turning on the tires and saying how they suck because they can't land without bounce.....ROLFMAO! I have landed mine without bounce many times...yup I have hand bouncy landings with it but that was due to pilot error not the plane. And AS3X and safe have nothing to do with the bounce, From what I have witnessed with as3x and safe.....some guy just don't understand how it works or how to set it up correctly then blame it because they lack the skill or knowledge of how to use or set it up then crash because of it. Another thing I will point out is it is a STOL plane and it lands better in grass then a paved runway. In spite of not being able to convert the AR637TA to an AR637T I did install separate servo wires for the ailerons and was able to get the flaperons working via the instructions. All of the Forward Programming changes didn't work though so the bottom line here is that I got flaperon capability but now AS3X and SAFE don't function at all. BTW, I'm using an NX10SE with it.

    • @GoofballFlyer
      @GoofballFlyer Před měsícem

      The TA is identical to the T except for the T's altimeter. You don't convert TA to T, but load the unlocked T firmware on the TA. I've done this with at least 5 TA receivers to unlocked T version to open up Forward Programming options. One of those was the Conscendo TA. If it's not working you are not doing it right. If Safe is not working you probably have used the Safe channel or switch for setting up flaperons. Or maybe it's something else? I have both Safe and flaperons working fine. On my 3 meter Fox I have SAFE working with it's flaps and crow on the AR637T receiver. That also takes separate aileron cables and receiver ports.

    • @randylervold
      @randylervold Před měsícem

      @@GoofballFlyer Thanks for the reply! I'm aware that the T and TA are the same other than the altimeter but what stopped me was the inability to do what you indicate by installing the T firmware. You'd done that before so you skipped it in the video. When logged in to MySpectrum account and using the programming software I cannot see any other model files, only what I have registered which is only my TA, not the T. There's nothing I can do to find a list of all their receivers to get it. It's likely I'm doing something wrong since you have now confirmed that you somehow installed T firmware on your TA, but is that because you also own a T so the software let's you have access to it?

    • @GoofballFlyer
      @GoofballFlyer Před měsícem

      You tell the software to update your firmware. It's the Software Update link on the upper left. Even if the receiver has the current version that works. The T and TA firmware is identical, no problem there either. The update should take about 30 seconds. If the Spektrum Programmer sees your receiver that's all you need. Just don't click the Power Cable box if you have a battery connected to the receiver via an ESC. You can blow up a USB port on your computer if you don't follow those instructions. If it would help I can make a detailed video of the process. I have a spare TA I can totally unlock.

    When I started flying we just flew. 47 years later I still just fly. Bent around the axle on a flying foam ice chest! This new Timber has just been put into a blender. No better flight performance than the last 4 other Timbers!

    Hi Tom, I recently bought a '22 Accord Hybrid and was planning to buy a spare as well. I'm curious, in my trunk, I have a foam insert that the inflator fits into. That piece is meant to fit under the trunk floor, but right now it's sitting on top of the pressed board floor. Did you have the same, and purchased a different foam insert to put over your spare? Thanks for the video

      I bought from a Honda dealer the foam cover for the 2022 non-hybrid Accord. I had to modify it a bit to fit all the hardware that came with the spare tire kit I bought, but it works fine.

    While I agree with your overall assessment, I don’t think that a comparison to a nose wheel model is relevant to the issue (?)

    • @GoofballFlyer
      @GoofballFlyer Před 2 měsíci

      Hi. Right, tricycle gear landings are less prone to bounce simply because the CG is ahead of the mains, not behind. However, you can bounce a C150 and it's not that had to do. A bounced 150 landing can easily result in a broken nosewheel and the safe thing is to power up and go around. I know, that 150 has a replacement nosewheel. The intent was to show I can do a smooth landing with no bounce. I do not have video of my many Timber EVO wheel landings, but they mostly looked just like the 150. Smooth as silk.

  • @heydonray
    @heydonray Před 2 měsíci

    100% agree. The stock tires are too big (not enough elevator authority to 3-point) and too bouncy. I swapped to 4” Dubros so that the stance is more conductive to 3-point landings and to eliminate the bounce.

  • @rotorhead58d
    @rotorhead58d Před 2 měsíci

    I saw an interesting video where a pilot turned off AS3X and SAFE and the problem went away when he was landing the Super Timber. His logic was that the two stabilization systems were interfering with the plane landing in a stable manner, and it was correcting for the bouncing.

    • @GoofballFlyer
      @GoofballFlyer Před 2 měsíci

      I'll try that again. However, I have seen other videos with the same issue. See this expert pilot at czcams.com/video/jc6R5YgYMew/video.html at the 2 minutes point. I normally do wheel landings.

      Jon is hardly an expert but the compliment is much appreciated. AS3X isn't causing bouncing. Wheel landing this plane takes a ton of finesse, it's definitely tricky. There's plenty of elevator authority to three point it every time though.

    • @GoofballFlyer
      @GoofballFlyer Před 2 měsíci

      @@TwoBrosRC I've started doing 3-point too. That also takes finesse. Just ask the poor J3 I learned in so many years ago for my first tailwheel endorsement.

      @@TwoBrosRC At least when using Jon's usual (insane) control throws 😂. Who am I, to argue with you, what kind of a pilot Jon is.... there are plenty of videos demonstrating his landing skills and they are definitely even beyond superb. So, if he says he couldn't get it not to bounce except for 3-wheelers, I trust that it is not a matter of skill level. 😉It certainly might be the "nature of the beast" as these air tires are bouncing balls and there is no dampening. Still, if you do have the right speed and no wind to grease the Timber in on its mains only - why would it have to bounce (unless there are some nasty bumps on the runway)? Having this said and despite my big respect for your channel (one of my absolute favorites) I still disagree with you that AS3X couldn't be the culprit for a plane to bounce on landings. Ultimately AS3X is mitigating environmental impact and it can only sense the change of the orientation in space using the gyro and then compare it to the stick movements to judge if the change was intended or not. If the bouncing is causing a dramatic change in the pitch angle all of a sudden, it will try to compensate using elevator. I actually have observed this with my little Habu SS 50mm that I initially had a very hard time to land without bouncing. When it did, it was sometimes throwing up the nose in the sky and every subsequent bounce was getting harder and harder... It was almost looking cartoony style, as an invisible force seemed to slam it harder into the ground after every bounce. Sadly, I could never try it with Gyro off, as I lost one of my landing gears and these are out of stock since almost a year meanwhile (in Germany) 🙄. Admittedly, the little Habu rocks even more w/o landing gear (and on 4S). Anyway, long story short: even though I have way less experience than you guys, I still think it wouldn't hurt to give it a try turning off gyro completely, to see if it does have an impact. As Jon loves Timbers (and possibly flies the new Timber off camera as well) he maybe want to try it out and share his findings?! 😋
