How Sammy Sosa Lost It All

Who is Sammy Sosa? That should be an easy question to answer.
Sammy Sosa was a baseball player. He was also an MVP, a 30/30 hitter, and the only person in Chicago Cubs history with more than 600 home runs.
But he’s more than that. To some, Sosa helped breathe life back into baseball following the 1994 strike. To others, he’s a pariah; the face of the biggest scandal to rock the game in a century.
Sosa’s legacy is complicated. His prime seasons are among the best ever, while simultaneously being undercut by years of cheating. The result is one of the most controversial, divisive, and often downright bizarre careers in the history of sports.
So I ask again. Who is Sammy Sosa?

To compare Andruw Jones to Omar Vizquel as players who are wholly dependent upon defensive performance to get in when Jones has a career 111 OPS+ and 434 HR and Vizquel sits at an OPS+ of 82 with 80 HR is absolutely wild bro, making it hard to take you seriously.

Uh when you pitch for mediocre teams you don't win a lot of games. Todays starting pitchers do half of what pitchers used to do in a season. Ive noticed younger baseball fans are so easily impressed by starting pitchers who would have been in the bullpen or never would have lasted a season in the majors years ago.

I think that Sosa deserves to be in the HOF if he’s willing to be honest about his mistakes. Same with Barry. Both of them are some of the best sluggers ever. But if they can’t be truthful about what kept them going for that many years then I don’t wanna see them in the HOF. I also really don’t have an issue with performance enhancers. The easiest way for mlb to help players extend their career is to find one that everyone likes and make that specific one legal.

It was a bang-bang play. They cut away from the game I was watching to show the last two innings. The first batter in the 9th DRILLED a pitch to deep LCF that was caught on the run. Then a groundout. Then the Tribe's manager (Eric Wedge) did an amazing thing: he did NOT send a LH batter up to the plate in a 3-0 game that was still very much in reach. He let RH-hitting platoon-player Donald take his turn for the 3rd time. Who promptly hit a roller to Cabrera which he didn't throw immediately as Galarraga neared the bag; I was SCREAMING at the screen THROW THE BALL and the rest is history.

The "Five-Point-Five Hole". That was where the majority of Tony's hits went on their way to the outfield. There were so many memorable hits in his career, but I think his best was off of San Diegan David Wells during the first game of the 1998 World Series. Wells was having his best year after hurling a perfect game earlier in the season and winning the Cy Young award as a Yankee. Tony had got a hit off Wells earlier in the game and Wells was still pissed about it, so he planned to give Tony some chin music to move him off the plate. Gwynn was looking for that pitch and slammed it to deep right and it rattled off the facing of the upper deck and came back onto the field. His son, Tony junior, was at that game and he had been hearing insults from the Yankee fans before Tony got that homer. Junior turned and looked at the fans who had been giving him a hard time and yelled, "YEAH! THAT'S MY DAD!"
