I raced to a PB of 4:48 after racing a 5:02 in 2016. I was pretty disappointed in 2016 as I trained pretty extensively and was surprised at how well I did in 2018 despite really only putting in 8 days of focused practice on the water. I did a fair bit of coaching and consulting through this Green Race season so my mind was definitely on it. I also carried over quite a bit of residual from my 20...

Great video when you are driving with your feet you really use your hips. Would this help a lot. Thanks
What do you mean wirh the last section of a late hip snap or past the hip axis? Does this mean you're leaning back past the perpendicular angle whrre your body should be relative to the boat. Other than leaning slightly back it looks like you followed the other tips you mentioned? Thanks
Not sure on this one, but on another it said the paddle sweep shouldn't extend past the hip or it will effectively work against you & pull you back down?
This is me showing my age, but I grew up innertubing down wilson creek. It was a blast!
This was a whole vibe music was 👌
So nice, I am taking kayaking classes in Colombia this week and really struggling with rolls. This video is good motivation to continue.
Smooth sending. Excellent backstory as well! Congrats to Max and Chris on this one! A proud moment for all!!
I notice on several of your videos you kayak with prescription glasses. I struggle with this (fogging etc) but contacts also have downsides. Any particular type of or tips for kayaking with glasses? Always appreciate the content.
No particular tips, just sucks being blind! Spit and wipe. I prefer glasses because I can keep my eyes open without fear of a contact shifting.
Way to send it! I know that’s a weight off the back.
OMG, the stoke is REAL!
I love the dog!
🫳🏼🫳🏼 Good stuff Max!!!
Congrats Max! Way to put in all the work and earn the prize!
Hilarious and very good! 👍🏼
Good advice! Or you could just ditch the hardshell and get an inflatable :D
Chris, on my son's second time out, I had him paddle up stream in a class 1 riffle; moving up eddies, doing ferries and peel outs and repeating. He learned more in 15-20 min than he probably would have in 3 days of just floating down the same stretch of river. While this is not a revolutionary concept, I was personally stunned by how quickly the feedback loop was realized with so little coaching my part. FYI, you are still the best!
Ready for Boost ‘23
It's coming!
Interesting and looks tough and kinda fun. Depends a bit on the river I guess as you certainly need to have some side to side eddies and not just river wide shelves like a few of my local rivers I could do this at, but definitely some sections would work for upstream practice!
The right river makes all the difference. Shoals with lots of shelves can be a great morphology for these kinds of pursuits. Were fortunate that our local geology helps.
I absolutely love how comprehensive this teaching is! Thank you. That whole thing about curving strokes is something that very few people (certainly here in the UK) are taught, and the deficit sits at the heart of so many problems for learners.
Glad you enjoyed, Matt. Your acknowledgement bears quite a bit of weight!
@@whitewaterdreams too kind! I'm only following where other great coaches have led.
Thanks for doing this
Absolutely!
I like video friend 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Sick boat. Got me thinking about the back band and improving my outfitting.
Nice outfitting tips!!! Do you have any creekboat outfitting tips for the scorch specifically?
How so? What are you wanting to learn?
Great! Thanks
Thanks for the video Chris! I have a power seat in my (new version) Soul Glide and it is amazing!! I’m currently foaming out my full slice as well. I would be curious about your thoughts on back bands in a creek boat/river runner? I typically run mine low and a little loose….I am tempted to use a foam block similar to what your playboat has.
I haven't run something like this in a creekboat yet, but I have had fixed backbands with no ratchets.
I wonder if anyone has devised an inflatable back band. It would be a U shaped float bag.
@@kevinhornbuckle the problem with something inflatable is that in order for it to be rigid enough for you to leverage off of, it needs to be tight enough likely impeding exit.
@@h2odreamsllc216 Makes sense. Thanks for the reply.
awesome !!! - Bill M.
This is awesome - can i ask what you used for the floats?
Love it Chris! I did this to my Rockstar about three years ago after hating the sweet cheeks system. I’ve made some small adjustments over the years, but never looked back from making the switch. Good tips in here…I’m outfitting a Mobius right now (in part on your recommendation) and it has a delaminated track. Can I use that same glue you used for your d ring? Welding or gluing plastic is such a pain.
Hey Jamie, not sure if you want to use gflex for the center track on your boat. Regardless of what you decide to do, you'll have to start by pulling all of the outfitting out of the boat and ensuring the inside of the boat is clean so that whatever adhesive you use you'll get a proper bond. Maybe glue 1/4" minicell on the hull, then re-glue the center track to that? That would be my thought, but just spitballing. Do a little research on what glues are going to hold well, gflex is very expensive for what you're going to likely use it for, with an uncertain level of success.

A great informative video Mr. Chris!
Glad you enjoyed it, Vince!
@@whitewaterdreamswhat hip pads are you using?
MK Hargrove is SuperGirl in a Kayak!!!!
Would like to know some exercises used by paddlers/kayakers to strengthen obliques
You can Google and turn up a ton of results. But kayaking in itself is helpful for it. Check out our other video Warmups for Freestyle kayaking. A lot of those drills are great for oblique strengthening while simultaneously working smaller stabilizer muscles.
That was awesome !! Thanks !! Hoping to get into kayaking late in life .

What's the make name of the Kayak you lads are using?
Wave Sport Project X and Blissstick Specialist
@@whitewaterdreams Thanks for the reply. Are they similar to the Pyranha Jed?
@@TheP4U111 it could be said the Project X was the prototype to the Jed, as it preluded it and was designed by the same person, Robert Peerson. I think the Jed is the best spud boat on the market (for me). The size is right and it does everything I want it to.
@@whitewaterdreams Oh brilliant! I've just ordered a Jed to play around with, (first ever Kayak). Are they also somewhat okay for touring rivers and lakes?

Great video, very informative! Thanks!
How does the 2 techniques shown compare to the Norwegian roll? Where you lean back over your rear deck in the finish of the roll?
These use "hip-snaps" while the roll you speak of is less driven by the oblique crunch in a hip snap. Lower center of gravity helps with the roll too but can be less than ideal in a whitewater venue.
It still is one of the best videos on CZcams explaining the roll
