It’s true that I have compromised on my youth to some degree,
On rare but real occasions I clean the house these days
and instead lumps of pot, prefer just honey in my tea,
Utilise the bottlebank,
Choose a salad over a lunchtime wa-
Can be found out of bed before three,
Weird changes, I'll grant you, not quite where wannabe bohemian me intended to arrive, but I survived, I think,
Of course I miss the younger person's unparalleled Libertine bliss of having zero obligations save for going out on the p*ss,
Of being able to exclusively eat *REEEEEDACTED* and beans on toast for a week and not wondering if that might be slightly nutritionally remiss?
And as a younger man when I would encounter those strange older aliens, old as I am today,
Their lives sounded duller than sloth farts,
Victorians who'd stay home on sunny weekends time to time
or excitedly talk about handing in their tax returns before the deadline,
But they forgot to mention that once you get here, it really isn't so terrible,
Sitting around thinking that was kinda a hard week, it'd be really nice to spend a Saturday getting high to Captain Beefheart and baking apple pie
and realising
oh it's Saturday and I'm an adult,
I'll just do that then,
Encountering a problem so abysmal it would've broken 17 year old you into little pieces of Styrofoam,
Freaking out a little
Then remembering
oh I'm an adult,
I guess I'll just solve this on my own,
Or being old enough to know when to ask for help, and feeling much better for that,
Or having a cat,
Having a cat is great,
Having my cat is great,
She's not for sale,
Or trying to listen more than one talks, or voting, or actually learning to say, in the kindest possible tone, ho hum, you're clearly full of sh*t, I'm bored and going home,
Having the sense to check in your brain now and then, and announce at your discretion
Aight, it's getting kinda weird in here,
I think I'd like to talk to someone in the mental health profession,
A little less obscene, finally at least vaguely interested in
basic dental hygiene,
This strange temporal crusade
of discovering actually the bed looks better made,
If you're coming this way too, I recommend it,
one foot then the next, ageing, mellowing,
Of a Friday night sometime around 33 walking back from the bar
and without warning or fanfare, suddenly realising at last you probably might know just who and what you are,
Because there is a self down there,
a creature that wants things, is scared of things,
That will not allow you to let passing comment go
just because you say so,
If it hurt, then it hurt,
And if for no reason you start dreaming of Argentina
it didn’t come from nowhere,
like, maybe you should go there?
What if we’re here just to be here?
Near to the people one would like to be near,
To not go gentle into that good night
and remain at raves until start of day
but also watch out for sleep deprivation,
hydrate frequently
and to remember that the cynics claiming you can’t fall in love in the first two minutes of meeting someone
are not just dull
but jaded, miserable chucklef*cks
who’d rather spend a lifetime in a sterile titanium box
than admit that life is highly unfair, yes,
but sometimes,
some days,
the most wonderful things happen for absolutely no reason,
Ageing is a small price to pay for getting to enjoy a contentment one didn't see coming,
when you realised growing up really isn’t so bad,
One's pride a little humbler and a heart less fraught and armour-clad,
But Mum and Dad,
Your offspring as I am, may I dare;
deep with gratitude for those years of unerring love and care,
Tying up my shoelaces and coiffuring my hair,
However mature I might endeavour to become, or wise as the years require,
I will never buy a f*cking air fryer,
I draw the line at fad kitchenware,
Not if it spits out equations for quantum gravity and God pops down and says, "Oooh I thought I left that there,"
Ya'll both can kiss my derriere,
Please stop texting me,
I won't buy a robot cooking pot,
Would sooner tie my kn*b in a sailor's knot,
Or rectally insert and apricot,
Green eggs and spam and Sam-I'm-not,
Not even for soup or ratatouille,
Nor cauliflower or chop suey,
Not if it can simultaneously jerk me off and play Banjo-Kazooie
I have an oven.
I have an oven.
I have an oven.
You're in a cult.
I have an oven.
F*ck off.

don't stop dreaming about Argentina
100% It's a Masterpiece & always will be.!
Air fryers have a pretentious aura about them. But a toaster oven with a convection fan is AMAZING (and basically an air fryer in all but name). You can bake a pizza in like six minutes, or make crispy fries and garlic bread in less time than it takes to use the bathroom.
Ever since an air fryer took my jacket potato and ruined it, i have hated them, thankyou space turtle for the affirmation.
Dear exurb2a, (if you ever see this comment) i love literature and nature and this video just encompasses both loves. Its funny, philosophical, humbling, joyful, and more adjectives that positively worship this recollection that gives me a sense of nostalgia. You are a great storyteller and i hope you are doing good in life. Funnily enough, im a young person looking towards a career in literature and this fuels me with passion. Ive been lacking such a feeling for a couple years, instead just existing without a clear goal. I don't know why im rambling on the internet for strangers to see but this gives me a sense of clarity. Now this all leads to a question i have of you exurb2a, can you recommend books for me? Any genre from any range of topic and age, i want to read before my fire burns out again. Thank you for reading theough my rambling probabaly filled with grammar mistakes, I hope anyone who reads this a happy rest of your day.
That kid was the MVP of all off that he really gave you a reality check by calling you a hippie 😂
Not to be melodramatic, but this video (like many of yours) has touched my heart and I listen to it when I feel lost as a 20 something
make this a book
wow. this video has changed my life
I don't care how much you rationalise it, how are we left with any other option, than to be the enemy of God, who is God to kill me and my family ?!! And this is an entity I'm meant to love ?!!
Why is everyone acting so surprised that existential crisis turtle is talking about a movie with the main villain as Death?
btw.. "grass is greener on the other side" (reality: theres NO grass.) "hut in the woods is ur answer""(there is NO "answer").
Show of hands, who's aware of why he stopped uploading in the first place? Definitely do take a dive into that pool of knowledge. Curious to see if this comment will exist shortly. ✌️
It's beautiful. The self-indulgent ramble you're on, I mean. It feels like you and I are alternate universes. <- I say this at 8:33, and; at 18:57, I have to say that the trail is similar to any other specific social situation with another human in that you have a predefined "game". Customer/salesman for instance, provides that the customer knows they are going to be sold a product and the salesman has to convince that they provide equal or greater value than they are asking; 26:38 I will be quoting you regarding American beer next time a Euro talks shit to me. Your worldline differs from mine too much past that, but we intersected for a time. I hope my bullshit was worth a fraction what yours turned out to be. Are fractions besides 1/10 an American thing?
I listen to it many nights
People just dont understand how much this film amaze me
And so heartwarming in a very realistic way like this is exactly how i feel about life
Al brate, lepo je kad imas sisu, sisuuuuuu!!!!!!!!
You bought the air fryer, didn’t ya?
I remember when I first listened to this video when you uploaded it, it actually had quite an effect on how I go out my daily life. Haven’t got the time to watch it now but still impressed with the change it brought on
Considering it came out in 1967, it is a metaphysical movie from the future (beyond 2001) showing us our past, present, and future. In Hindu scripture Upanishads, it says “Tat tvam asi” which means you are that (God). This movie captures it brilliantly where Dave is shown to be “that”. And indeed we all are “that” if we can disconnect from our HAL 9000 (ego). This movie is like a prequel to The Matrix.
God I have missed you
I thought this would be a post-rock album from the title.
You are a wonderful story teller. Engaging and funny.
Great intro. to running, but he forgot a couple of things: first, if you're getting started, especially later in life, it can be almost impossible to just run, but what you can do is walk, then run a bit, then walk, then run etc; over time, increase the ratio of running to walking, and never feel bad about walking; you'll still upright and you're still moving; in fact walking a fair way e.g. all day is a pretty big deal. Second, shoes do matter; IMHO you need a good heel cushion to soften the impact; on tarmac or concrete, which most of us can't avoid, that's a serious load, and can do you damage. Third, if you're not young, it's harder, but not impossible, and in my experience, running later in life is better, than in youth, even though you can't go so far or so fast
I own it. I love it. I had my daughters watch it when they were around 9 and 10...and they HATED it...because it didn't have the ending they thought was worth the time. I still think it's really cool!
I understand that this will get lost within all the other comments but i just want to say thank you so so much for this video. I have had a pretty shitty year and my mental health, fear for the future and well willingness to do anything went down the fucking drain. And i cannot fully explain how much this video has helped me. So thank you for all the tears and laughs
Ah, so we need a *commune* in the woods.
Pretentious piece of shit, i love you.
You’re writing helped me change my life mate. I hope that’s enough
We're really bad at figuring out the things we *really* want. Some of us figure it out early, others spend their entire lives looking for it, and the rest stumble upon it in middle age... and even then, we assume it's not a fluid dynamic; we assume that the goalposts will never move again. The Human Condition is a frustrating affliction, one that we're all born with, and one that constantly mutates and evolves with time.
I hope he's not irritated by so many new people who are about to find him through David and WVFRM.
QW who?
i disagree, my end life goal is to have a hut in the woods
I think you've done it. You've written something beautiful, real and touching. It made me think that some worries are universal. Even people that are very distant geographically and that will in all likelyhood never meet can experience very similar feelings. The translation of that is maybe the thing I love most about art in general. I'm rambling I guess. Just wanted to say thank you for this.
david sends me here
Same
Same here :)
'2001 a space idiocy', as Mad Magazine would have it, and the presenter here delivers his dogma fanatically enough.
OUCHIES
existential crisis Turtle is back!!!
I think this is your great book with a capital GR
So you started with saying you aren’t good at writing and then you made a masterpiece. An absolute masterpiece.
dude i’m 20, the air fryer is just the evolution of the oven. it’s quicker and easier. stop resisting
Address the allegations
yeeey
This is too relatable
The answer is jesus christ our lord and savior
I thought “hey this is great! Let me see this new video right before I sleep.” There is no more sleep.
I resisted buying an airfryer for years. Until 2 weeks ago. You won't regret it.
Who else came here because they are convinced that yes, the answer definitely IS a hut in the woods? 😅
This story should be developed into a film. It would be awesome as an animated CG project (Love Death & Robots/Netflix). So much better than what the 'industry' in Hollywood outputs these days, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing your work.🤖
Jesus loves you❤️
0:23 2001: A Space Odyssey. First half is a fairly uninteresting rogue AI plot, second half is an LSD trip fever dream with absolutely nothing interesting thematically beneath the surface-level wierd trippy visuals.
Not at all related, but read books by Dan Glover. He also does wood art and photography, but you seem to prefer books.
