Reading them again for the 3rd time in 30 years.
YES!! I really wish I could get them into my TBR pile…but there’s so much stuff to read 😫
I always thought David Bowie would have made a great Lestat.
Hey, now you’re talking!! …for real high ratings, perhaps he still could 😧👻🧛♂️❤️
Jekyll is pronounced Jeekul.
Nope
@@StrangeReads Yes that it is how it’s pronounced. The author, Robert Louis Stevenson said so himself.
Currently listening to an audiobook of this series and MAN is it good. I can’t get enough of oldschool, classic fantasy.
Spoiler alert?
No…but you’ve watched our vid and know that now, right?
I read this when I was 8 years old. I probably shouldn't have
My favorite writer"author"
…and lots to read ❤️😊
As much as I want Nat's family to survive, the odds are against them... With the bird attacking 12 hours a day, he must work quickly to fortify the windows AND get supplies each day. And who knows when the bird will quit? Will they EVER??? Nobody knows...
I fell in love with his work when I listened to an audio recording of 'Queen of the Black Coast'
Captain bird...and operation paperclip apparently ther is lamd down there 😮
I think I understand…I found some interesting links anyway 👍
Tom was not good as LeStat. He looked simply awful as a blond
We miss you Anne
GNU Sir Terry Pratchett
Klaus Kinski’s version of Nosferatu is very underrated and amazing film.
He kills someone out of spite in one of his first scenes, listening to color of magic and he kills an innocent
It’s fiction, so we don’t need to be too upset 🤷♂️
Using A.I. to show a dead Asimov is a wild choice.
This was made a long time ago…before I became aware of the implications of AI art 😰
The Rats was the first book I ever read as a young teenager (in the late 70's). Love it so much I went on to read all of his books and then moved on with Stephen King.
Thanks for the great author tip, Shaun 👌👌
I had no idea that Anne rice preferred Brad Pitt as Lestat! It’s what I thought when I watched the movie 😊
This representation of Death and Neil Gaiman's Death of the Endless are my 2 favorites when it comes to the symbolism and the fleshing out of a character in the literary world. Both are excellent, excellent writers .
Oh, I just love this world. The interactions Death has with these characters after they have crossed over into the realm of shifting sand is very interesting indeed. Tiffany Aching even enters his realm for a brief time in A Hat Full of Sky. Thankfully Granny Weatherwax assisted as needed. R.I.P Sir Terry Pratchett
Cool
Border town on the Rio Grande is a bit of a stretch. REH was from Cross Plains TX which is in central Texas and Texas is a big, big place.
...or would it be a greater stretch to think Howard NEVER went on holiday? He told Clarke Ashton-Smith that he conceived the idea of Conan on such a trip. The quote is on Robert E. Howard's Wikipedia page. (And Texas is four times SMALLER than the state I live in - so not so 'big, big' after all 😜😜).
@@StrangeReads Didn't sound like a quote, if it was I stand corrected.
@@ruprecht8520 Wikipedia: 'It was also during this trip that Howard first conceived of the character of Conan. Later, in 1935, Howard claimed in a letter to Clark Ashton Smith that Conan "simply grew up in my mind a few years ago when I was stopping in a little border town on the lower Rio Grande."'
Sam Reid is my Lestat. He's BETTER than bookstat by miles. Anne's writing is...weird and disjointed but certain themes and events are fantastic. I'm overjoyed with the much better written story in the show.
Oh, interesting. I guess Anne’s writing was for a 70’s audience and styles have changed in that time. I can imagine the TV show being presented quite differently to the original text 👍
Well that explains the pacing
It's very difficult fpr me to choose just one Ligotti story as my favorite, but it would probably be "The Greater Festival of Masks."
I love any recommendation. Everything I’ve read of his has been magnificent. Also, anyone reading these comments may see your pick and discover this fabulous writer ❤️❤️❤️
This actor's stupid look and hair are revolting.
GNU Sir Terry Pratchett
AI voice...
😂😂 No one speaks like me 😂😂
Apparently Nosferatu is going to be played by Bill Skarsgard from IT
Yeah, I think he’ll be great 👍 ❤️
Bill has honestly been on a roll lately!
English or Spanish 😐
🧍♂
Not to be confused with The Doom that Came to Gothom
I looked it up as I hadn’t heard of it, and Mike Mignola actually named his third Batman story after Lovecraft’s tale - amazing!! (The Doom that came to Gotham) - thanks for the lead ❤️😃
@@StrangeReads my son and I watched the movie adaptation, and he is trying to track down The Doom That Came To Gothom graphic novels. It was pretty good. I have the actual Doom That Came to Sarnath in the dreams collection, but I haven't tried reading it yet
the rats. Dnf so many times, when finally made it, i didn't like it. Such a bummer
Do you think it’s a book that is of a time (British horror of the 1970’s)? And maybe this is why it’s lost an appeal for modern readers?
@@StrangeReads So many horror fictions nowadays and people (like me too, sometimes) could not appreciate it as it is.
I really hoped it finally made it into the bin 😂
…now the outtakes on this one!! It’s easy to miss with a big box, but the little plastic bag went in over and over again 😂😂
I want to see the outtakes!!!
Watched it yesterday shadow of the vampire, amazing movie
I think I might rewatch it again soon, too 👍😊
Lovecraft also called the Cthulhu Mythos "Cthulhism," "The Arkham Cycle," "Cthulhu and his myth cycle," and "The Mythology of Hastur"
Cruise really did bring . What no one thought he would in my opinion. He could have done Queen of the Damned too.
Time when cross works 😂😂😂😂
I love Eragon so much!!
Well. I'm 37 and I've been reading Rice since I was 12. I've seen every adaptation. Cruise captured the savagery and world view (when he was young), Townsend encapsulated the seductive side, existential crisis and the feline grace (I don't care that the movie was a mess), now? Sam Reid portrays both and is given so much time to be vile, violent, graceful, alluring, magnetic and portray every contradictory character trait. I have my numerous dislikes of the show, but Reid and his performance are not among them.
What a fantastic review ❤️❤️
@StrangeReads If you're a book purist, which I was, you'll likely dislike it, at first. Performances will win you over. Lestat, Daniel, Louis (mostly) and Claudia (who does very well, even if it's a far departure). It's another mixed bag, but not a mess like QoTD.
🌹💀☠️🩸
I remember that for the briefest of moments, John Travolta was considered to be cast as Louis. John Travolta and Tom Cruise as the two main characters of Interview with the Vampire? That would have been a Scientologist's dream come true. Except they would have probably protested the homoerotic moments just out of their outdated principles.
I found this one pretty melancholic, but beautiful. ❤
I think it has amazing passages in it, but I don’t warm to these dreamlands Lovecraft tales. They are hugely popular, though. How did you feel about walking over to the ship on moonbeams 😂
@@StrangeReads I mean... gotta get there somehow 😂
One of the most creepy film cult classic
💯
Lestat was the BEST vampire ever written.
Ooh…that’s a big call!!
"Undeveloped characters" is a wild take.
As in not harsh enough, or too harsh?
@@StrangeReadsId say it's just straight up inaccurate . Eragon and saphira showcase excellent character progression when they reach the varden
Is this not from one of Poe's stories? Red Death?
It’s from ‘The King in Yellow’ by Robert W. Chambers.
Yes
Affirmative
Sam Reid embodied Lestat perfectly ! Ann rice would have loved him ❤🩸❤️
Sorry, Geralt of riviera?
😳
I've got that on DVD
