What antennas are you using?

Thanks Chris, I'm MM7. Andy from the Highlands of Scotland, I bought a 817nd and the tuner, my first radio was a clansman 320, and this Yaesu has so much to learn with two menus? This is a huge amount of help thanks see you on the waves!

I have lots of radios including a fleet of Elecraft and despite my love/admiration for them the Yeasu 857D, despite whatever flaws people might level, is great....almost SOTA royalty....heavy....2/3 of our packs are water, food, first aid etc etc. As Charlton Heston said..."from my cold dead hands..." de Paul W6PNG

Hi, I have a few Baofeng UV-5R radios that I’ve been experimenting with. Recently, I decided to upgrade and got a pair of Quansheng UV-K5's, which I really like. Then, I felt the need for digital radios and purchased a Baofeng DM-1701, hoping to catch some local digital chatter. However, I haven’t been able to pick up anything at all. It seems like I might be doing something wrong, or maybe there’s simply no one talking. Thanks. P.S. I got the digital radio because whenever I scan the area and hear chatter, it’s just static. I know this is because they’re transmitting digitally. After googling digital ham radios, I found the DM-1701 and decided to try it.

I still have my hand held Icom ic-31a . In DV 440 mhz mode I can get super clarity digital voice when I drove in my car and my daughter in her room good 2 miles city tests. I’m sure I can get 5 times the range with external antenna. I can also hit a repeater with a Yaesu FTM-100dr base station with a 35 feet external antenna which is about 90 miles away which analog can’t do w

Never ceases to amaze me how people with a face for radio feature themselves so prominently in their videos that you can count a number of nose hairs hanging out their mug.

Great video Chris and makes me feel guilty for leaving my 817 home on most SOTA trips. Its become my QRP/P JS8 rig lately, easy to interface with SCU17 or Digi Rig etc, but promise to give it a run on SSB CW on SOTA soon. Regards vk5cz ..

What a great rig to review especially with FM and HF capabilities. Filters really are nice . Twin Peaks is nice summit. Look forward to the series. In your previous videos, I saw you carrying a drone on your right shoulder backpack strap. Where did you find the drone pack?

Thanks for a nice review. I like your leg strap and small CW paddles - Can you provide a link to them? I'm currently using full-sized (i.e., bulky and heavy) paddles on a leg strap and I'm looking for something smaller and lighter. Also, is the angle of the paddles where they attach to the leg strap adjustable? Thanks

I really don't like or agree with any of the digital modes but I'm going to get radios and learn them anyway because I'm not stupid. Going to get the new Kenwood for DSTAR the beat Yaesu with Fusion and an the best one for DMR I can find.

Thanks Chris great to share an activation with Steve. He was the first guy on You Tube I saw CQ SOTA. What is this guy up to I wondered. Here I am now in 2024 close to MG x 2, 455 activations in my boots or third pair now. Regards to you both 73 vk5cz ..
