Do you prefer the lead or rhythm channel for rhythm?

I have an Orange Crush Pro 120 that I boost with clean midrange boosts to help keep the character of the amp intact while being able to get that tight, percussive sound from the chugs that I’m looking for. The SD-1 while not exactly a clean mid boost does a fantastic job at tightening up the amp without making it sound harsh or thin along with keeping a lot of the string dynamics intact. Because of this I’ve always wondered how the SD-1 would affect the tone of a straight up Rockerverb. If I had to guess the SD-1 would probably really bring out the dynamics in the Rockerverb along with keeping that tightness intact and pushing the amp to get you an even more focused midrange grunt along with it.

Is this dialed in with the loop on or off? Definitely a big difference in how the Master effects under each circumstance. I find with the loop on, you get the modern voice of the amp. It’s tighter, crunchier and as you go up on the master, it gets more and more compressed and all the frequencies just smash into each other. Its kinda reminiscent of the rev blue Uberschall or some of the Diezel stuff that it compresses. With the loop off, it’s more classic…gushy, fun to play and leans more towards its Soldano bloodline.

I went out of my way to get the standard 6505. It just sounds more raw. I already have enough polished sounding boutique amps. 6505+'s clean channel still isn't that great, so it makes no sense to get it for the cleans unless you're on a tight budget.

I took an amp and modded it to Soldano SLO specs. Then I slowly modded it into Dual Rec specs and I ran into this exact same thing. What was cool was being able to customize the preamp circuit to control where this "mush" comes in. Early on, I had it compressed earlier in the range but I was able to delay it to later in the range, and I was also trying to balance the clean headroom on the clean channel. In other words, I was trying to get this sweet spot at the same point where the clean sounds at it's best. Unfortunately, it's hard because it's only 50W when the OD sounds great, the clean clips a bit. For high gain stuff, I prefer a super clean Roland JC120 type clean and mine clipped a bit too early. Was a fun experience though. I'd love to have a 100W SLO or Dual Rec for the extra clean headroom but can't justify it. Coming back to this clip, there is definitely a point where it's compressed to all hell and sounds like crap. A boost can help saturate it, if the master is set too low and it's a bit dry and open. But once it's too compressed, nothing can save it. It's just a wall of mids and mush. There's definitely a sweet spot in the middle where it barks and sounds great. The circuit I did ended up some sort of hybrid, because I didn't have Mesa or Soldano transformers.. they were vintage Fender based. And the power amp was slightly different, although the basics were there. I put a bunch of switches on the front panel to try and get all of the sounds. Listening to this brings back memories of when I was using alligator clips and different components to tweak it. It was a fun experience, I must have tried 50-100 different components. The Dual Rec is such a classic 90's and early 2000's sound.
