I’ve been thinking about this, when I wore my hair out (my mom would do me and sisters hair into ponytails just grease and gel and oils) and she had access to our scalp and hair easily, but getting braids my hair started to literally break off,I’m definitely going back old school soon, but wear my Afro and moisturize it when it needs to be🤷🏾♀️ but right now I’m 17 and I’ve learned to do twists (added extensions) I love doing this style it’s so easy to do and low maintenance. And I’ve been seeing black women say “wearing your hair out a lot can break off” for some can be TRUE (if you don’t know how to do your hair,I don’t see how hiding it is helping it) but black men for example most don’t have a hair care routine they shower dry their hair and let it be,my brother for example has thick and lengthy hair and it’s literally MATTED and he has so much hair if he gets it blown out or stretched,so why can’t it be the same For black women?
Yes, I’m getting my natural hair in box braids and styling them!
Hot take, I realized that embracing your natural hair (I'm a dark-skinned Black African woman with 4C hair) means that you are renouncing to the male gaze. I take dancing class and honestly men (especially the Black ones) literally feel disdain when I show up with my 4C hair either in a fro or in mini-twists. Just something I noticed. I took out my braids and have been rocking my 4c hair since March 2024. I might do braids, but it's summertime so I'll let it breathe before winter starts
Yes, I was going to make a video on that! It seems like black men don’t like their own black women natural hair! But they make videos on us not being natural, it’s sad! I have an Afro too, I have like 3 different hair types. But it’s an Afro
@Queen._sam_ it's quite paradoxical that Black men want Black women "to go natural" and I'm as natural as they come, no makeup, lashes etc. They want a natural Black woman until she's dark. I mostly get attention from White men even in my natural state. I'm looking forward to your video. Plus, I can't imagine dealing with 3 different textures, that's incredible!
@bossladyghana6303 I completely understand the skin color complex that many black people have, but I must say that even as a light skinned black woman, when I wear my natural hair, I don’t get the same type of attention. I get compliments but it’s not the same. I don’t wear makeup at all either, I just wear lashes sometimes. I do makeup 💄 for special occasions. I can’t say that I’m against wearing makeup or adding hair to your head. I do both sometimes, not really makeup 💄 though, only because I have nice skin and I don’t want to mess that up. I do completely agree with you though, when I wear my natural hair more white men are interested in me. Black men fell in love with 😍 video vixen type of black women for the most part. And don’t get me wrong 😑, when I get dressed up, I look 👀 amazing 🤩 without makeup 💄! I just go all out with my outfits when I want to! lol 😂

@@Queen._sam_ women are waking up, decentering men, not accepting the bare minimum, teaching their daughters to seek validation from within, leaving dating apps, not participating in hook-up culture, establishing boundaries and not allowing people to shame or guilt trip them for not putting up with their shit! Especially don't take them back if they don't apologize for their behavior. A lot of guys will do all kinds of things to you then just try to come back after a certain period of time like nothing happened, never saying anything about it. That means they haven't changed and don't think they need to change. Take it at face value and leave them alone.

I felt every single thing you said! I mean every bit of it 💯 I hope this video goes viral. I have binge watched hundreds of hair videos. I noticed this pattern of “you HAVE TO protective style in order to grow your hair.” But as time went on, I started to realize.. WHY do I have to hide my hair 24/7, WHY would I want to keep it away in braids/ twists/ buns for MY ENTIRE LIFE just to keep it growing when that is simply false. I want to actually enjoy my natural hair. Obviously you have to take care of it and be very mindful of what you’re doing with it on a day to day basis, but hair is always growing (unless you have a medical condition that prevents it) I’ve been natural for 7 years and had to do another big chop last month due to extreme heat damage and postpartum hair loss. Two traumatic experiences for me. I went from mid back length to now barely collarbone length. Which is fine because I just wanted my healthy curls again. I personally prefer my longer, full curls. So I was driving myself crazy these past few weeks trying to install wigs. Forcing myself to keep it in braids longer than a week. Until I finally woke back up and was like, you know what, this is more of a self love + physical/ mental healthy journey MORE THAN ANYTHING. Chopping off my hair this time around made me realize to never take my hair for granted again. When it was mid back length I complained ALL THE TIME how “unmanageable” it was when in reality, I was neglecting it which was causing it to become unmanageable. Then I’d get frustrated, handle it so roughly which caused unnecessary breakage, and to top it off I’d straighten it every chance I could. I’m 28 and stay at home mom of 3 (2 under 2) and who would have ever thought something as simple as HAIR would give me this sort of like a spiritual awakening overall lol Thank you for this video! 💕
Thank you 💝😊, I truly appreciate your feedback. I love 💕 when others share their personal experiences with their own hair. We all may have Afros but our hair types can be completely different. Different things works for different people. So I absolutely 👍 love 💗 that you shared your experience. Thank you again 💝
I walked away baby, took time but I did and he played her too and slept with her so called friend in the process so guess they learned the hard way
That’s exactly how it goes!!! They get played too! Great 👍 for you! Happy 😊 you got out of it!
I literally just decided today to put my hair in a slick ponytail with no added pieces crazy this popped up on my feed. I haven’t used much chemicals on my hair since 2014. My hair grew pretty long then my mom passed and my hair stayed at that length from stress and depression I think. then I tried to switch it up and developer dye my hair and it broke off and I got frustrated with it then started just cutting it and cutting it. Now my hair is gaining health back. I’m at a state where I want to be super consistent and do less manipulation and use less braiding and wigs because it destroyed my scalp. I thought I was protecting my hair but I do believe my scalp needs air and I think certain synthetic hair I’m very allergic to. So it destroyed my scalp and my hair wouldn’t grow after that. Now I’m at medium length almost short and I’m working on healing my scalp. For the past few months it’s really worked. Each month I have less and less infection, scars and dandruff. I’ve decided to get in a routine and this year I’m gonna really grow my hair long. For real this time!
So sorry for your loss 🙏🏽❤️. I loss my mother as well, I completely understand the stress it can cause. Praying 🙏🏽 for your healing 💝 That’s awesome 🤩, I’m so happy 😁 to hear 👂 that! Yes 🙌, girl! Just keep up with the hair routine that works for you. Our hair/scalp desperately needs air and water 💦! We have to get used to just being us! I feel so free with my natural hair out! I just got two strand twists in my natural hair today. I will make a video tomorrow to show the process 💝 Thank you 😊 for your feedback and sharing your journey. It’s encouraging 💝
Chile, you're MIXED yet used to relax your hair??? You don't even need it! 🤦♀that alone will damage your hair cuz of the texture. A relaxer would never touch my hair if I was mixed, nope! You're lucky it didn't leave you bald, for real.
I have an Afro, I took to my black side more. But I understand your point. I relaxed my hair a total of about 3 times in my entire life. But you’re right! It could have made me completely bald! I’m 30 going on 31 now. I relaxed my hair when I was around 15/16 like 3 times. And not full relaxers, touch ups to my roots.
@@Queen._sam_ oh ok, got it! I'd have been scared to do tht tho..u were at least smart enuff to NOT continue doing it. 😉
@nygal6288 None of us need relaxers- mixed or not
@@londonnatural86 dnt get me started on tht..cuz there are women wearing wigs cuz they can't bother with their own hair..I can go on & on for DAYS on this topic! 🤷
It's important to remember that everyone's hair journey is personal and unique. Just because someone is mixed doesn't mean they don't face challenges with their hair. Relaxers can be used by anyone who chooses to manage their hair in a way that they feel comfortable and confident. Please next time calm down with your tone.
Great advice!
Thank you 😊
Great advice I’m around your age and I certainly agree with you! I wish I wouldn’t have cut mines as much some stylists can prevent growth! I love your energy I hope some young ppl can hear this.
Thank you 💝, yes, I wish I would have just wore my natural hair out more! It would be way longer and fuller now. I’m just starting over now. I pray 🙏🏽 your hair journey goes well 💝 thank you for your feedback.
This is good advice. When I was in college at 18, I went natural because I didn’t know how to relax my hair when I went away… when I left school.. I worked in a salon, went to cos school and became a braider… but I didn’t understand the essence of caring for my hair until I left the industry to be a sahm, couldn’t always buy weave and started taking care of my own hair. I’m 28 now and enjoying my natural hair. I wish I embarked on this journey sooner. I’ve tried a crochet and a wig on recently and I ended up taking the styles down a few days later just because I felt my best and most beautiful natural. I never thought I would be in this place where I preferred my hair over anything else.
Yes, it’s important to wear your natural hair out. With no weaves at all!
Thank you for your feedback 💝
Very good advice. No hairstyle is good for too long. Always switch it up so your scalp and hair can breathe freely at times.
Yes, no hairstyle is good for too long. However, when you have an Afro, such as myself. It’s not good to do too much manipulation to your scalp. It’s best to let a protective hairstyle stay in for at least two to three weeks before getting a new one. I personally noticed three weeks works best for me. Some people even go a month and have really long healthy hair and Afros. Thank you 😊 for your feedback 💝
From September to March, my hair grew 6 inches. I kept my hair braided, washed and conditioned it every 3 weeks.
@@Queen._sam_ Thanks for sharing!
@@Queen._sam_I started doing the same back in March and my hair has already grown 2 inches ❤
