The Humsafar Trust (HST) is a community-based organisation (CBO) working on health & human rights of LGBTQ since 1994. Through targeted HIV interventions, we currently reach out to 7500 Gay identified, Men Having Sex with Men (MSM) and TG/Hijra communities in Mumbai every year through its outreach work on physical sites, social media and online programs. We build capacities of other CBOs in 27 Indian states on HIV prevention, treatment, care & support. We currently work in the field of health, advocacy, research and capacity building of LGBTQ communities across India.
TRANScend: Unheard Stories - Sonali
Unheard Stories is a project by TRANScend, an initiative of The Humsafar Trust (India’s oldest registered LGBTQ organisation), supported by Publicis Sapient. It is a collection of films depicting transgender lives in India. Need for this project emerged from sensitization workshops conducted with employers and educational institutes for awareness on transgender issues. These workshops included transgender persons telling their own stories which made the concepts on sex, sexuality and gender ‘real’ for the audience. However, it also meant the speakers reliving the trauma of discrimination, harassment, violence and abuse faced by them, every time they narrated their stories. Hence, short films on lives of transgender men and women were made with an objective of portraying their lived realities in a dignified and compassionate manner.
